5 common Google Meet mistakes and how to fix them

To help users, Google started offering its meeting platform for free during the pandemic. As many users use the tool more frequently, some errors become apparent and cause stress and inconvenience.

Check out how to fix 5 common Google Meet mistakes and keep good video calls on the platforms below this article:

Google Meet: camera and microphone not working

Before joining a Google Meet video call, make sure all peripherals such as camera, headset, and microphone are working properly. Test them in other applications on your PC, such as B. FaceTime on MacOS or Camera on Windows 10.

If you’re using Google Chrome, make sure you’ve given the site permission to access the camera and microphone.

To check, go to  :

“chrome://settings/content/camera”

or

“chrome://settings/content/microphone”  in the navigation bar.

Examine that microphone and camera are picked and whether the “Ask Before Access” option is turned on. Once done, visit the Google Meet meeting in Chrome and give the site permission to access peripherals.

It’s also important to know which headset you’ll be using during the call. If you’re using a bluetooth headset, make sure it’s available for that platform. Some Bluetooth models can make regular audio calls, but cannot connect to Google Meet.

Google Meet: Video or Audio Quality

When you’re on a video call, the least issue or inconvenience is the quality of the video and audio. However, many users experience these issues while using the platform.

Google’s first suggestion is to check if the peripherals are well adjusted or if there is a connection error. It’s also important to check for any bad microphone, headphone, or webcam cables.

Find any programs or websites that are open in the background. They may be consuming RAM and processing in some way, which can disrupt video call progress and browser performance.

If you’ve checked everything and you’re still having issues, try using Google Meet for mobile (Android | iOS) to join the room on your phone.

If none of these options apply, restart your PC and try accessing the room through the platform again. If the problem persists, you may need to contact technical support.

Google Meet: Internet Problems

Internet bandwidth is one of the main contributors to call quality issues, even when video and audio are working fine. However, attendees may not be able to see and hear other members of the meeting.

Run a speed test with a website or program and check if the amount of internet you rent is reaching your PC or if the ping is high. In these cases, unplug the router or modem, wait 10 seconds, and then turn it back on.

If your router supports it, use a Wi-Fi signal on the 5 GHz frequency instead of 2.4 GHz. The 5 GHz frequency is very immune to interference, even if you have multiple devices connected to your network.

If your computer uses Wi-Fi, consider using a straight-through network cable, as the Internet signal on Wi-Fi typically has a longer latency than a wired connection.

Google Meet: Unable to create or record meeting

Since Google Meet is a platform linked directly to G Suite, your account must have a domain to create meetings. Once you receive the meeting link, you can access it like a Gmail account.

To record meetings in Google Meet, you need permission from a G Suite domain administrator. If you are unable to record the meeting, please contact your company’s support staff.

If you’re an administrator of your account and want to enable recording, go to the G Suite Admin console home page, go to the Applications tab and select the Google Hangouts application.

Go to the Meeting Settings option, select from the left menu which subordinates should have access to this option, and in the Recording section, allow people to record the meeting. After the setting is complete, click “Save” to complete the setting.

Google Meet: Disable VPN software

If you use VPN software to protect your privacy, be sure to temporarily disable the service. The VPN service is responsible for routing traffic to another network location, which can delay the transmission of video and audio from video conferences.

If possible and necessary, have IT or VPN support change the setting to ignore Google Meet traffic only. This way you can avoid call delays due to software.

Here we go! Now you can fix some of the most common Google Meet mistakes and improve the quality of your video meetings.
