Apple today unveils the line of newly designed MacBook notebooks. They are launched by Apple as the most advanced consumer notebooks in the world, equipped with an Intel Core Duo processor and a spectacular new 13-inch satin screen. They’re up to five times faster than the iBook and up to four times faster than the 12-inch PowerBook. And all this in a new and elegant design, in white or black.

Madrid—May 16, 2006—Apple today launched the redesigned MacBook: the world’s most advanced consumer laptop equipped with an Intel Core Duo processor and a gorgeous new 13-inch glossy display; And all this in a sleek design that’s up to five times faster than iBook and up to four times faster than 12-inch PowerBook*. Along with the 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pros, the new MacBooks complete Apple’s lineup of Intel-based laptops and replace both the iBook and 12-inch PowerBook. The entire range of Apple notebooks now offers Intel Core Duo processors; an integrated iSight video camera for video conferencing on the go; the revolutionary Front Row media experience with the Apple Remote; and many advanced features including DVI with dual display support, optical digital audio input and output, Gigabit Ethernet, Sudden Motion Sensor (sudden motion sensor technology to protect the hard drive), Scrolling TrackPad and MagSafe Power Adapter.

At just 1 inch thin, the new MacBook is 20 percent thinner than iBook and features a stunning new 13-inch glossy display. With a display that’s 79 percent brighter than iBook and 12-inch PowerBook displays, the new MacBook delivers incredibly sharp images with richer colors, deeper blacks and significantly higher contrast. With a resolution of 1280 x 800, the MacBook screen offers a viewing area that is 30 percent larger than that of the iBook and 12-inch PowerBook.

The new MacBooks will be available immediately in the Apple Store (www.apple.com/es) and in the network of Apple Authorized Distributors in Spain. Apple today also increased the processor speed of both models in the 15-inch MacBook Pro line, which now offer more performance at an even lower price. The model whose recommended price is 2,429 euros now includes a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processor (previously it was 2.0 GHz,) and the 1,939 euro model now includes a 2.00 GHz Intel Core Duo processor (previously it was at 1.83GHz,). The 17-inch model also reduces its recommended price to 2,719 euros. And from now on, MacBook Pros also offer the new glossy display, as a CTO (Configure to Order) option, on both 15-inch and 17-inch models at no additional cost.
