Ghost Of Tsushima: a journey through images

Through images and words we venture into the amazing world of Ghost Of Tsushima

After a short break, the column that combines images and words is back to tell an hour of our experience within a game world.
The protagonist this time is Ghost Of Tsushima, the latest Sony exclusive to land on PlayStation 4.
Let’s go into this travel by images.

Beware of spoilers

The following article contains minor visual spoilers. Therefore, if you want to fully explore Ghost Of Tsushima without having any kind of anticipation, we advise you to continue reading only if you have passed Act 1.

A gentle breeze moves the thin blades of grass. Their sinuous movement animates the whole field; it almost seems to turn into the sea. If it were not for the different color, it would be confused with the impetuous waves that stand out on the beach.
In the distance, a pillar of honor it is surrounded by a thin layer of fog and some herons. One of them moves and focuses our gaze on a lifeless body, slumped to the ground, charred. The tree behind him, whose sparse branches are shaken by the wind, contrasts with his immobility.

Some seagulls move away from the coast towards the hinterland. A storm is approaching. We call Jin his horse and calmly mount it.
The sky darkens more and more as we head for the troubled waters of the Sea of Japan. The wind is against us, but, despite this, we continue to spur our steed along the coastal area.
We are approaching an estuary. The horse’s hooves are submerged by the mixture of waters that flood the area. Between a stop on dry land and a quick gallop to cross the waterways, we notice the distance of the banners dancing with the wind, suddenly rising.

We approach the signs. Some wooden poles, eroded by brackish waters and sea currents, as well as wrapped in moss, are positioned in a circle, as if to mark a limit. Inside the circle we notice a standing figure, with a large one on his head straw hat so shabby that it has become no more than a mere aesthetic accessory.

We dismount. The fog has risen to such an extent that it has come to cover Jin’s knees. We cross the boundaries of the arena. The man urges us to approach, informing us that he is a ronin willing to redeem the bounty on our heads. The warrior starts walking and tells us to get ready.
As in the best dueling traditions, the two challengers are positioned opposite each other, waiting to draw their swords. The eyes meet; the blades screech as they make their slow journey out of the koshirae; the wind gently moves the fabrics, carrying with it small bamboo leaves and some debris from the beach, lying by the tide on the smooth coast.

The cry of the ronin pierces the air as it prepares to attack us with all its fury. Quickly, we dodge his mighty blow, but a lightning-fast kick catches us off guard, causing us to stagger slightly.
Having found stability, we parry a quick blow just in time. Our readiness is rewarded with the possibility of being able to attack the opponent with two devastating blows of the Shape of the stone, ideal against swordsmen like this ronin.
In the heat of the moment, we deliver a further blow which, however, the challenger avoids with great agility. With the hips exposed, the ronin has a chance to hit us with ease. In fact, two almost invisible slashes take away almost all of our life, which we recover in part thanks to determination.

The fog is getting thicker and thicker. Sunlight struggles to filter through. The world seems to have lost its colors. The ronin attacks us again with a series of lightning strikes. We manage to parry the first in an awkward way, but thanks to the last we disintegrate the opponent’s stability, allowing us to inflict an unstoppable blow. Staggering, the ronin fails to defend himself against the raging river that crashes on him.

Bleeding, tired and afraid, the ronin takes a few steps back. He seems to have given up, but in an instant he is upon us again. Unstoppable, the ronin continues to attack relentlessly. We can barely parry the blows, inflicted with inhuman fury.
In a short time, the enemy penetrates our defense and unleashes a series of deadly blows, which bring us to the brink of the abyss.

The ronin, convinced that he has victory in hand, concentrates all his strength to launch one last, devastating attack. The blade cuts through the air, hissing carried by the wind.
At the last moment, we move to the side with a dodge; blade in hand. With a decisive blow of surgical precision, we sink the katana in the meat of the ronin and we extract it quickly.

Life leaves a dark space in the eyes of the warrior, who falls to the ground, lifeless. The blood mixes with the mud of the estuary, flowing into the troubled waters that lead to the sea.
Jin delicately puts his weapon back in its sheath and walks away into the fog, higher and higher, more and more enveloping.
