Ghost of Tsushima: second best-selling game, but Switch is the true champion of the US ranking

The August US ranking reveals that Ghost of Tsushima is the second best-selling game, but the real champion of the month is Nintendo Switch.

NPD has published a financial report on the results of the gaming market USE for August 2021. Using this information we discover that, behind Madden NFL 22, Ghost of Tsushima gets the second position (previously it was in 110 °). The real champion of the month is though Nintendo Switch.

First of all, let’s see the USA sales ranking for the month of August 2021:

  1. Madden NFL 22
  2. Ghost of Tsushima
  3. Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War
  4. Humankind
  5. Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales
  6. Mario Kart 8
  7. The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword
  8. Minecraft
  9. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  10. MLB The Show 21
  11. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  12. Call of Duty Modern Warfare
  13. Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart
  14. Animal Crossing New Horizons
  15. Pokémon Sword and Shield
  16. Mortal Kombat 11
  17. Super Mario 3D World
  18. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
  19. Mario Golf Super Rush
  20. Super Mario Party
Switch and Joy-Con Drifting: mother and son want $ 5 million from Nintendo

As you can see, in classification only two new games appear for the first time ever in August 2021: Madden NFL 22, which takes the top spot, and Humankind, which comes in fourth in the global rankings, but first in the PC rankings. Expanding the chart to 2021 (so far, of course), Humankind is the fifth best-selling game on PC.

Ghost of Tsushima instead it climbs to second position, while in July it was stopped at 110. Obviously the credit goes to the Director’s Cut version, published on both PS4 and PS5. Matt Piscatella of NPD specifies that this ranking was made by counting only complete copies of the game sold: upgrades from the basic version to the Director’s Cut version are calculated as DLC and therefore are part of a separate ranking. Sony can also rejoice in the achievements of Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart.

Tales of Arise on Nintendo Switch? It is not planned

The real victory, however, belongs to Nintendo Switch. Not only 9 out of 20 positions are games exclusive to the Japanese hybrid platform, but the hardware sales figures indicate that the console is the best-selling for August 2021 and for the whole year in the US. PS5, however, is in first position in terms of dollar sales, for both time periods (obviously due to the fact that the Sony console costs more).

Finally, speaking of accessories, in August 2021, 164 million dollars were spent. The best-selling accessory during the month is the Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller, while the PS5’s DualSense (classic white colorway) is the best-selling accessory of 2021 to date.

USB 3.0 specifications will be released in the second half of the year

Speaking of PS5: September 15th update unveiled, it’s a big update with lots of new features.
