Sony | Company gaming revenues grow 27% in the second quarter

The games and services division of Sony it grew 27% in the second fiscal quarter ended September 30, the Japanese company said on Monday. Sony also raised its forecasts slightly higher than estimated in July. As a result, total company-wide revenues are expected to be higher.

Revenues were $ 4.88 billion in the quarter for the group, compared to $ 3.84 billion in the same quarter last year. Operating income was $ 800 million, compared to $ 490 million the previous year.

Game and network service revenues for the full fiscal year are now expected to be 8% higher than previously expected. Sony credited the higher forecast for higher expected game software sales for growth, as well as the impact of foreign exchange rates, and higher-than-expected PlayStation 4 sales. Sony also said it expects higher-than-expected sales for the subscription service, PlayStation Plus. The operating result was higher than expected in the quarter for the same reasons.
