[GUIDE] : How to activate Android vibrate or silent mode in one click

Android smartphones have a function to silence the ringtone when receiving a call or message. But as strange as it may sound, Android’s silent mode is far from easy to activate. Fortunately, the latest versions of Google’s mobile OS have a shortcut to activate vibrate mode or discreet mode in just a few seconds.

Just press a button to activate vibrate mode

Most people when they arrive at work put their phones on mute or vibrate. This action is repeated several times a day. However, the Android Do Not Disturb function (mute the phone) is difficult to access and is sometimes difficult to learn.

It is also not uncommon for some users to cut the volume of multimedia content on their phone thinking of activating silent mode. In short, the volume, sound and vibrator settings lack clarity on Android.

But since the arrival of Android 9, Google offers a shortcut button to put his device in silent or vibrate mode in less time than it takes to say it. But first of all, you will need to determine the version of Android installed on your device.

  • Open Android settings
  • Bring the window down
  • Press the system item
  • Click on advanced settings
  • Select the system update option

You will see the version of Android you are using in the window. If it displays the number 9 (or higher) good news for you. You can switch your smartphone to mute or vibrate mode via a combination of buttons.

Activate the quick setting to activate silent mode

Previously, to put your phone in silent mode, you just had to keep your finger pressed on the volume down button. This operation could be done from any Android screen including when the phone was locked.

Now, you have to press the power button then go down the notifications panel and then click on the corresponding icon. You can also press one of the volume buttons once and then click the bell icon to activate silent or vibrate mode.

But since Android 9 and later, it’s easier to mute your phone’s ringtone. To do this, just hold down the volume button and the power button for a few seconds. The phone automatically switches to vibrate mode.

The small rectangle-shaped icon with lines on the sides appears in the Android status bar to inform you that the ringtone is muted. It’s not more complicated than that. Note that it is possible to customize this key combination and use mute mode instead of vibrate mode.

  • Open your smartphone settings
  • Click on system then on gestures
  • Press the block ringtone section
  • Check the mute box

This feature will save you time on a daily basis. We just regret that this device only works in one direction. Once mute or vibrate mode is activated, you will not be able to use this key combination to reset ring mode.

You will have no choice but to increase the ringer volume manually. Pity. Another important point. This feature is not available on smartphones from Samsung or Sony.

Program the silence of your Android smartphone

How to deactivate the ringer of my phone or put it in vibrate mode at regular intervals? There are applications for this, including Silence.

This Android application allows you to silence your smartphone and modify system parameters more or less regularly. Concretely, you have to add events manually or directly use the Google calendar to activate or deactivate the ringtone, the vibrator, the volume of the alarm clock, WiFi, Bluetooth, airplane mode or even mobile data (data).

How it works ? To start, it is necessary to add an event, manually or not, and to choose the options. If it’s a meeting, turning off the ringer may be a good idea or turning it back on later in the day so you don’t miss important calls or messages.

Some options are not available on all versions of Google’s mobile operating system, such as airplane mode which is not modifiable on the latest Android 4.2 updates (Jelly Bean) and Google calendar support which is currently limited to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher.

In the same genre, there is also the Silent Time application which offers less functionality in an interface that is not as polished as that of Silence.

    How to silence your Android

How to silence your Android? This is the question we will try to answer in this tutorial. Whether it is to stay quiet, or not to have the inconvenience of an exam, it often happens that you want to put your device on silent. In the first part, we will see how to quickly silence your Android, then we will show you how you can manage the priority modes for ringtones and notifications.

Finally, we will study the programmatic mode for silent on your Android, before concluding on the positive and negative aspects of silent mode.

    Silence your Android quickly

The easiest way to mute your Android is to swipe down at the top of your screen. From there you will have access to a new black screen.

A box named ‘Audio profiles’ will then be available.

Click on it and you will see a choice for different audio modes on your Android. Select the silent mode and your Android will be in silent mode. Note that alarms and other emergency messages will always ring on your device, we will detail the priority modes in the following section.

Silence your Android with priority ringtones

Since the Lollipop version of the Android system, ringtones are now managed by priority modes.

Thus, someone who does not wish to have any ringtones at all, such as a speaker in an operating theater requiring silence who does not wish for noise, vibration or light from his screen, will have an interest in selecting ‘No priority’ or equivalent in this menu. Ring priority modes are available in the ‘Settings’ menu, available from the main screen of your Android. Once in this menu, you can go to the ‘Sounds and notifications’ menu, then to ‘Ringtones’. In this menu of your Android you will have the choice between three options.

    • No ringtone: you will have no vibration, no ringtone or even the screen that lights up.

Even your Android alarm clock and other alarms will be disabled.

With this mode, your Android is completely silent.

    • ‘Priority’ mode: with this mode you deactivate all ringtones, except alarms and other notifications.

This option is very practical for turning your Android into an alarm clock.

    • ‘All’ mode: your Android’s silent mode is then deactivated.

Put silent mode in programmatic mode on your Android

It is also possible to program silent mode on your Android. To do this, go to the ‘Priorities’ tab of your smartphone as in the previous paragraph. In the lower part of this screen you will then have the choice to program a priority at a given time.

This is very practical, for example, to automatically program an alarm mode on your Android before bedtime.
