Baldur’s Gate 3: 7 massive mistakes that you should absolutely avoid

In Baldur’s Gate 3 the tutorial tells you only a fraction of what you and your team are capable of. Six tips for the fights we have already given you the hand. Unfortunately, the tutorial does not warn you about possible mistakes.

The Youtube Lucky Ghost already has some expertise in the game and explains what many beginners and advanced players do often wrong make. Wasted items, incorrectly used spells, incorrect positioning in battle – we summarize the most important things for you.

Common Mistakes in Baldur’s Gate 3: 1. Find traps and just run into them

If you and your team are exploring the area in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will hear the sound of a dice rolling. If successful, a group member then feels one Cases up, which is on the way. But you’ve already left-clicked where you’re going, and your party just runs into the trap.

Instead, according to Lucky Ghost, you should quickly right-click on the ground. Then the whole team stops abruptly so that you can avoid the trap. Alternatively, there is also the option to disarm traps.

2. Not using slots for equipment

Each character carries a weapon that is automatically equipped. Armor is also put on, but not much more. According to the video, many players forget their characters one each arc in hand so that they can use ranged attacks in battle.

Also, players often forget to equip one shield. Not every character can carry one, true, but many can. You can easily look this up in the attributes, which you can access via a tab in your character window. There the game will show you whether the character can use a shield. If so, be sure to equip one to take advantage of the extra defense.

3. Talk to NPCs without saving first

A mistake that probably happens to almost every player in Baldur’s Gate 3 is not playing often enough save. Unforeseen things and undeniable fights often happen that we would rather have avoided. If you have previously saved, you can easily load the save and go back to a previous point. If you save less often, you may have to relive some dialogues and travel paths again.

Lucky Ghost also gives the tip to save every time you talk to an NPC. It may only be a short dialogue, but every conversation can be one turn take it, you screw up a throw and suddenly you find yourself fighting an entire village. Then you might wish you had saved before the dialogue. The Keyboard shortcut for quick saving is F5 by the way.

4. Run into the battlefield as a group

Another common mistake can only be avoided to a limited extent: simply run into battle as a group. Sometimes a battle results from a dialogue or you are surprised, then of course it’s not your fault. But sometimes you already know a fight is coming and you can act accordingly prepare.

So you should grouping of your team and position each character in an advantageous spot. To do this, click on the corresponding button, which is located on the left under the icons of your team members. Now you can move each one individually and, for example, put them in elevated positions to give them an advantage in the upcoming battle.

5. Use potions for one person only

If you are still close together as a group, it makes sense to potions not only to be used for one figure, but for several. For example, you can save on healing or buff potions and not just use them for a single character.

Here’s how it works: You select the potion in the inventory and place it on the floor between your team members, who, as I said, are standing next to each other. Then you attack the potion, because then everyone in the immediate vicinity will receive its effect, i.e. healing and buffs.

6. Misusing concentration buffs

Another mistake the Youtuber notes is the wrong use of spells that concentration require. As the name suggests, your character focuses on this when using the corresponding spell. For example, she creates a shield around another character or herself.

Beginners in Baldur’s Gate 3 then often use the buff again on the next turn to apply it to another member as well. However, the first shield created will expire because the character must now focus on the second shield. You should keep this in mind in battle and think carefully about what is the best thing for the characters to focus on. In addition to the icons on the left, you can also see which buffs and debuffs are currently affecting which character.

7. Your inventory is a big mess

This is not a bug that has massive repercussions. However, your inventory can quickly become a confusing mess if you’re not careful. With a button on the left above you can do it according to different categories sort bybut Lucky Ghost reveals another special trick.

In the RPG sometimes lie empty pockets, in English pouches, on the ground that you can collect. If you have one of them in your inventory, you can use Shift to select several items and drag them into this bag. You can then name them in the menu of the bag itself – for example, give it the name “Potions” and drag in all sorts of potions that are flying around in your inventory.
