[HOT] : Lab – The screen of the Nintendo Switch Oled put to the test of our colorimetric probes

Available from this Friday, October 8, 2021, the new Nintendo Switch wants to impress us with its eponymous Oled screen. But the talent of this screen, although real, is only available to those who will know how to get it out of its hiding place …

It is finally here, this new model of Nintendo Switch long awaited. Starting today, October 8, 2021, gamers can get their hands on Nintendo’s new hybrid console review. Laying your eyes on this famous new Oled screen, in the absence of the improved computing power that had once been anticipated for a possible “Switch Pro”, constitutes the only major technical innovation of this new version of the console – as indicated by its very elegant official name, “Nintendo Switch (OLED model)”.

The only major novelty certainly, but not an insignificant novelty for all that, because Oled technology is here, as in all circumstances, carrying many promises (ultra deep blacks, more vibrant colors). But we obviously cannot be satisfied with the theory: what is the display quality actually produced by this screen? We have equipped ourselves with our faithful colorimetric probes in order to be clear about it.

Black ebony

So let’s start with the first of these promises: blacks of infinite depth. Contrary to what one might think, this characteristic is in fact not guaranteed by the use of Oled technology. The absence of backlighting and self-emitting pixels are one thing, but their power supply must be able to drive very low voltages with enough precision so that the transition between absolute black and very dark gray does not cause very unpleasant banding effects. This is the reason why the Oled displays of the PlayStation Vita or of the PlayStation VR, for example and to remain in the field of the video game, indeed emit small luminous residues even when they display black “0%”.

Fortunately, none of this concerns the Switch Oled screen, which from this point of view is well worthy of the standards set by current smartphones. In the dark, our probe is not able to detect the slightest photon emitted, nor our naked eyes. This infinite contrast compares very favorably to the ratios of 1084: 1 and 847: 1 measured on the LCD screens of the Switch Original and the Switch Lite, respectively. And we have known, since time, the advantages of these perfect blacks: depth and relief of the image, richness of detail brought to the shadow areas … Among the few games that we were able to try for this test, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, which highlights these qualities in the most striking way, with its nocturnal sets whose shaded areas become veritable magnetic abysses for the gaze.

Supersaturation, c ** trap

We can not say, however, that the first contact with the console is so pleasant when it comes to color reproduction. By default, the Switch Oled indeed presents its user with extremely, if not too saturated, colors. The cause of this is that the console uses the native color space of its screen, which is found to be close to the DCI-P3 space, and not to the Rec.709 space for which the games and the interface of the console are however calibrated (this is the standard “SDR” color space used by the original Switch and Switch Lite, as well as on the HDMI output of the dock). The result to the eye is in substance equivalent to the “extended color” or similar modes that can be found on most Oled and Qled televisions on the market. It is marked by very flashy and perhaps in a sense flattering colors, but also very unfaithful, not doing honor to the artistic direction of the games.

This is particularly visible on the red and green shades, which are very largely oversaturated, which is sanctioned on the DeltaE 94 measurement by the peaks at nearly 9 (average at 4.3). These distorted colors are not so obvious in all games; we recognize for example that a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, with its candy box colors, is not distorted – the excess of liveliness is however perfectly superfluous, the game having absolutely no need of this to sparkle visually. Conversely, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s pastel color scheme is terribly battered. The grass is tinged with a radioactive mint green, and the sky with a blue “produced in WC”, which is the most complete misunderstanding.

Fortunately, there is a solution to all of this … as easy to guess as it is difficult to find when you pick up the console the first time. Yes, the Switch Oled offers two display modes, a “vivid color” mode (default) and a “standard” mode. Yes, the standard mode is much better calibrated. No, we will never be able to explain why the choice between these two modes has been hidden so deeply in the parameters of the console: we can only access it after going to look, at the bottom of the list of sub-menus, the “Console” section, where you can still find at the very bottom or almost the option “Saturation of the console screen”, sandwiched between two unrelated settings.

Still, after switching to standard mode, the rendering is transfigured. The Rec. 709 color space is perfectly respected this time around, and the DeltaE94 drops to an admirable average of 1.8 (against 3.2 for the original Switch, 2.1 for the Switch Lite), without any peak above. of 4. On our test copy – just like on the copy received by our dear neighbors of Gamekult, which we also took a look at -, we can only painfully distinguish a tiny drift from green to yellow, and nuances of gray pulling a bit towards blue (color temperature almost constant at 7367 K, for a target at 6500 K). The rest is indistinguishable. It should be noted that the rendering could present some small variations depending on the copies sold in the trade. But this is of little importance: in practice, the sight adapts in a few moments to these small drifts, which we can therefore qualify as insignificant.

Screen readability: maximum brightness limited, but reflectance finally tamed!

All this being specified, the simple fact that the Oled panel of this new Switch is able to cover a large part of the DCI-P3 color space opens up an interesting potential. We are surprised to imagine future games which, being aware of the Switch model on which they are running, could automatically adjust their tone-mapping on the Oled screen to use it authentically. Better yet, it might even go hand in hand with adding HDR compatibility with expanded color space on the dock’s HDMI output. A daydream ? No doubt, alas.

As it stands, the Switch Oled screen itself could not however claim any HDR label, the fault of a too limited peak in brightness. It tops out at 330 cd / m², a little less even than the 360 and 380 cd / m² achieved respectively by the original Switch and the Switch Lite.

This does not mean, however, that the Switch Oled does not achieve a colossal leap compared to its predecessors in terms of readability in full light, thanks to another less expected benefit of the new screen: its drastically reduced reflectance. This was one of the biggest weaknesses of LCD models, real mirrors that reflected almost 90% of incident light. This figure is almost halved by the Oled screen, which reflects 49% of the light. The difference is major.

The new Switch Oled screen therefore keeps its promises, and improves the visual experience on almost all possible metrics compared to LCD models. So on condition that you take the time to dig deep into the options of the machine …

We look forward to seeing you in a few days for our complete test of the Nintendo Switch Oled.

[HOT] : Nintendo Switch OLED has a (somewhat) hidden option to change color rendering

It is possible to modify the rendering of the colors displayed by the OLED screen of the new Nintendo console. This functionality is missing from the base model.

From October 8, Nintendo fans will be able to discover the Switch OLED – a new model that focuses on improving comfort when playing in portable mode. Its main argument is the screen: not only is it bigger but, as a bonus, it relies on OLED technology (which offers truly black blacks, accentuates contrasts and improves color rendering). And imagine that Nintendo has concealed a display option in the settings – spotted by Gamekult and reported in its test published on October 6.

Said option is exclusive to this OLED Switch. It allows you to play on the saturation of the console screen with two possible choices: ‘Bright colors’ or ‘Standard colors’ (yes, without ‘s’). This feature is hidden in the ‘Console’ tab, at the very bottom of the settings, rather than in a dedicated display submenu (like ‘Brightness’ or Themes’). This is why it is not easy to find this option which, however, can impact the viewing experience.

WHAT IS THE SATURATION OF THE SCREEN ON THE OLED SWITCH FOR?

By default, the Nintendo Switch is configured on ‘Bright colors’ and we can easily understand why: this is the most rewarding option, with more lively, even aggressive colors for certain shades (reds, for example). It is a spectacle more bluffing for the eyes and it serves to push the chasm a little more with the normal Switch (equipped with a simple LCD screen) thanks to a game on the color temperature.

These two modes are not unique to the OLED Switch. On other products equipped with a screen, you can modify the color rendering. This is for example the case of smartphones designed by Samsung, which offer a ‘Vivid’ (equivalent to ‘Vivid Colors’) or ‘Natural’ (equivalent to ‘Standard Colors’) rendering. On a television, you can adjust the image even more finely, by adjusting all the elements that make it up.

This comparison below will help you understand what it is, although the difference may seem subtle:

Bright colors Standard colors

Focus your gaze on the Nintendo Switch Online logo (circled in our comparative screenshots). With the ‘Bright Colors’ option, the red stands out a lot more – it would almost glow until it drools a bit. Conversely, the ‘Standard colors’ parameter makes red stand out a little less. What is the best choice ? It obviously depends on the sensitivity of each. In terms of color accuracy, ‘Standard Colors’ may turn out to be a cut above in some games. We think of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, where the grass could be a little too neon green with ‘Bright colors’. This mode will be more to its advantage in Metroid Dread, a very dark game that needs to bring out details.

In short, it can be a good idea to switch between modes depending on the games. The more realistic artistic directions will be less distorted with the ‘Standard colors’ option, when the more flashy ones may need a more dynamic and artificial rendering (this is the case of Metroid Dread) .

It is therefore rather a case-by-case choice, knowing that switching from one mode to another only takes a handful of seconds (the console or the game do not need to be restarted) .

3 Nintendo Switch games for lucky perverts

Nintendo. That used to be the family-friendly company that would never allow anything like Night Trap. Their Mortal Kombat version was only played out of necessity, because the blood had to disappear before the release. Who to this day have not produced a major shooter or horror title themselves. The one in which Splatoon shoots with color and in which Luigi’s Mansion is the top of horror. The fact that they allow other games from other providers on their platforms is nothing new, but what I recently came across in the Switch store was a whole new dimension.

Not entirely new, because I wrote about an earlier example of this on the DS over a decade ago. But here are three things that found my switch in different ways: Three games for perverts … Or what else should I call it when you rub very young anime girls to remove their underwear?

Moero Crystal H – The bra of darkness

In the case of Moero Crystal H, it was the story in the press release that made me have to see this game to believe it: You play the “lucky pervert” who, with the help of the “panties of light”, wears the “bra of darkness” must find again. Because only together do these two, let’s call them items, keep the universe in balance. Sure …

Let’s take a look at the basic game mechanics first. Who are very decent. You have a very old fashioned, step-by-step dungeon crawler with turn-based combat. Well-known concept and astonishingly solidly implemented here. Even the level of difficulty is quite demanding if you venture too far too quickly and ignore the possibilities you have in the fights. That would be a series of special attacks, magic, combo moves with several characters. Everything is well known, works as usual and nobody would have noticed without the special orientation of the game. Which is probably the reason for the next paragraph.

Dungeon crawling like in the 80s. I’ve always thought this was a solid base for cartoon soft p**n.

Where do you start? You heard the “erotic” premise. Then there is a lustful seal – yes, the sea creature – who is a well-known underwear thief and for whom the two special pieces are of course irresistible. The humorous concept of aging thieves stealing female underwear is a common tool in Japanese humor. I suppose it probably isn’t. I only know the classic Ranma as an example, but I suppose there is more, because after all we’re talking about the country that supposedly sells used girls’ underwear from vending machines – with a fish oil solution playing an important role in satisfying the Demand and the buyer’s plays.

Your main character, the lucky pervert – “Lucky Pervert” – mainly plays a support role in the fights by getting excited about the all-female fighters on your team and then discharging his excitement on them. Fortunately, the game leaves no visual clarification as to exactly what that means, I am only giving the terminology of the game. The all-women team – whatever the age of the very youthfully drawn female beings with animal features such as cat paws and others – on the other hand, is responsible for the usual attacks. You complement this team by scratching off new monster girls. Literally.

What is an onsen and do I really want to know?

If you meet a possible candidate, you have to knock off your underwear first. Hit corsets and panties based on rounds, then someone say that you can’t experience anything new in gaming. Once that’s done, the lady stands almost naked on a screen in front of you – you can’t really see anything, the game is approved for ages 16 and up – and you have to scratch off three points of power or something on the touchscreen. These are not always, but more often than not, in the area of the female erogenous zones. Once that’s done, you have a new fighter on call. The team is expanded and included in the eternal cycle of excitement and discharge. The happy…

At his heart, Moero Crystal H is a fully valid old school dungeon crawler. Round fights with a certain depth of play, many opponents and well thought-out mechanics. Technically nothing goes wrong here, you can play that well. But the real incentive … you have to want to.

Moero Crystal H in the Switch shop

Waifu Uncovered – No intention to marry

From role-playing to shoot’em’up, as a virtual anime lusty pig you don’t have to be fixated on one genre. And you can even learn something: what is waifu, please? If I initially assumed that it was simply the name of the game, I then came across the profound background while Googling (thanks, Urban Dictionary). “Waifu” is a made-up word from the anime scene. A waifu, as far as I understand it, would be an explicitly female anime character that you would marry if only she was real. Another dive into the Google Rabbit Hole behind it revealed more extreme excesses of fan devotion to drawings. Meh, in the 80s we wanted to have something to do with Jessica Rabbit. It’s no different, I suppose.

So, Waifu Uncovered is not a psychological analysis of the characters here, but literal “uncovering”. In a playful way, you get a third-rate asset swap shmup in which you basically maneuver around at the bottom of the screen in order to eliminate a lot of enemies above you. Imagine a bullet h**l shooter, just without the carefully thought-out planning of the firing and enemy arrangements and without the gimmicks that made the greats of the genre what they are. It’s not Tiger Game what’s happening here, but not so much about it either.

Anime p**n pictures in combination with a shooter. Has the potential? If so, then it remains unfounded here.

The “attraction” comes from the fact that with every wave of opponents, more clothes of the would-be waifu disappear in the background – I can’t say that I was able to develop great wedding wishes here, so I don’t know whether the term applies. Either way, little by little there is a little bare skin to be seen, of course within the scope of the 16 rating, which is far less generous than in the film sector. Afterwards you can admire these little pictures without the game, for desperate use if the internet and all the p**n in the world should be gone. If Moero Crystal H was still a good game with a strange premise, Waifu Uncovered is playful border junk that only exists to sell a few softcore anime pictures. And even with this target group there has to be a little more desperation than usual to find enough excitement for the five euros that this work wants from you.

Waifu Uncovered in the Switch Shop

Senran Kagura Peach Ball – Pinball is also a fetish.

Another genre change, you can’t say that fans of anime strips have to commit themselves. This time it’s a pinball machine and like Moero Crystal H, I have to say that the game itself is extremely good. Sure, the physics of the barrel is not quite optimal, but good enough. The tables are laid out in an interesting way, there are many bonus areas and complex point multipliers. If that were a completely normal pinball simulator, I would be very impressed. Senran Kagura Peach Ball is more than that. Well, more … in any case, it has its own idea of how to attract the pubescent male target group.

Hey, is just a pinball machine that I play here. Nothing to see, please move on …

Senran Kagura is a complete series that happily does gymnastics through all sorts of genres, from 2D side scrolling beating action to a water pistol 3D shooter – everything is included. The common motive? Scantily clad female ninja across the board who are saving the world. What it’s really about is made clear by an innocent sentence about one of the games from the series’ Wikipedia entry: “The sequel shows itself to be improved by improving the chest physics and the destruction of the clothes.” That’s pretty much how Dead or Alive 2 was then, and it was a good game too, so why not.

So Peach Ball is a pinball machine. If you find yourself overwhelmed by the fact that one of the bonus rounds consists of, for example, pounding around on the bum of one of the heroines with HD rumble and the paddles until the underpants fly off, then … Did I just write that? What should I do that is what just happened in the game. Where was I? Real pinball and half-naked ninjas! There is even a story that is even more demented than the Bra of Light: Five of the ninjas of different cup sizes have inhaled a mystical mist and now they think they are different animals. Which basically boils down to another fetish of its own, but let’s stick with pinball, because only the legendary Peach Ball can relieve you of the curse. That and lots of subtly suggestive mini-games with underwear that disappears in gradations.

Again, beyond all the soft eroticism, which I think is different – anime is really not my thing, but everyone’s … – Peach Ball is a really good, varied pinball machine with lots of crazy ideas. Here sat someone who not only had waifu thoughts, but also wanted to deliver a good game, because after all you felt obliged to a saga of almost ten years of minimal eroticism in combination with solid gameplay.

Senran Kagura Peach Ball in the Nintendo Shop.

So, those were three of the stranger games I’ve stumbled upon in the past few years. Incidentally, this is not only available on the Switch, Peach Ball is also available for the PC, Moero Crystal H originally appeared on the Vita. But for someone who still remembers Nintendo’s aversion to anything suggestive from back then, it is always a fun highlight to see such eccentric soft eroticism on a Big-N platform. Especially since there are two really good games behind it. Sure, Waifu Uncovered is the remnant recovery from the world of real games that I expected, but both Moero Crystal H and especially Peach Ball are just fun games. Hmm, who would have thought. Something has happened since Samantha Fox Strip Poker.

I would like to close here with a film title. I don’t know what the film is about. I just know it’s not a ’70s p**n, it’s a real movie, after all, James Coburn plays the lead role (He didn’t have a p**n career that I don’t know about, right?). I just stumbled upon it by accident, just as I stumbled upon Moero Crystal H by accident. Maybe I’ll check it out tonight. Like the Bra of Darkness, how could you resist this title: “Derek Flint – hard as flint”.

[HOT] : Nintendo Switch OLED: the screen will be better, but far from perfect

The Nintendo Switch OLED promises a better display quality and here you will find all the qualities that the console can highlight. On the other hand, it is also worth remembering that compromises have been made.

A Zelda game on Nintendo Switch OLED // Source: Nintendo

This is the big announcement of the day: the Nintendo Switch OLED has been made official. As its name suggests, the great novelty of this brand new console is its panel which is based on OLED display technology. We regularly come across this term especially in the world of smartphones, but also in that of TV or PC. The announcement of this new product is an opportunity to recall its advantages.

In other words, we are going to see together why the Nintendo Switch OLED screen will be better than that of the classic Nintendo Switch.

SWITCH OLED VS LCD

The opposition between the Nintendo Switch OLED and the classic version of the console amounts, in large part, to confronting OLED and LCD technologies. The first, Organic Light-Emitting Diode, uses organic light-emitting diodes. What you need to understand is that each diode on an OLED screen emits its own light. To display the color black, an OLED panel will simply not light up the pixels concerned. This point will have its importance in the next part of this file.

The new Nintendo Switch has a 7-inch OLED screen // Source: Nintendo

On the other hand, liquid crystal displays (LCDs) have been used extensively in our technological products for a longer time. Their operation is very different from OLED since they need to use a backlighting system to illuminate said crystals. Keep in mind these non-exhaustive explanations, they will allow you to understand what follows.

THE ADVANTAGES OF THE NINTENDO SWITCH OLED SCREEN

BEST CONTRAST

The Nintendo Switch OLED will especially highlight its better contrast. The OLED panel displays real blacks since its black pixels are off, no light passes through them. With an LCD display, these same black pixels remain illuminated since the panel cannot handle what it displays with such granularity.

So, if you put the same black background on OLED and LCD screens and with the same brightness and compare them side by side, you will have the impression that the second displays dark gray while the first will transcribe the image with much more loyalty. While few people actually lend themselves to this kind of experimentation, many users will no doubt appreciate the improved visual comfort.

In contrast, dark black pixels will show off all other colors better. On your games of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Splatoon 2, the scenes will appear more vivid and therefore richer on the Nintendo Switch OLED.

BETTER BRIGHTNESS

If you have a smartphone with an OLED screen and you have opted for an automatic adjustment of the brightness, the latter will be able to reach new heights when the conditions require it (in a very bright environment, under a very strong sun, etc. ). However, if you manually adjust this setting, you won’t be able to climb very high, as if you hit a glass ceiling. It is really the fact of going into automatic mode which makes it possible to exceed 700 or even sometimes 800 cd / m².

The Nintendo Switch OLED will undoubtedly adopt a similar behavior:

  • able to raise the brightness very high when needed on automatic mode;
  • a little more limited in terms of brightness on a 100% manual setting.

BEST COLORS?

The latter benefit is a bit less of a certainty, but OLED displays tend to offer a wider color gamut than their LCD counterparts. We can therefore bet on better coverage of color spaces such as the very standard sRGB and the larger and more difficult to manage DCI-P3.

Everything will actually depend on the quality of the panel that will equip the Nintendo Switch OLED. The comments above are especially valid for fairly recent screens, if the console is satisfied with a component a little outdated, this improvement will probably go by the wayside.

FEARS AROUND THE NINTENDO SWITCH OLED

We’ve gone over the improvements to expect on the Nintendo Switch OLED display. This should not prevent us from thinking about the small concessions that will also potentially have to be made. There are mainly two and they are related to the definition of the screen.

DEFINITION AND RESOLUTION

The Nintendo Switch OLED has a 7-inch screen, compared to a size of 6.2 inches on the original console released in 2017 in France, but the HD definition of 1280 x 720 pixels remains unchanged. Mathematically, the Nintendo Switch OLED will therefore offer a lower resolution. As a reminder, the definition represents the number of pixels in a screen while the resolution designates the density of pixels inside. By enlarging the size of a screen without changing its definition, we inevitably end up with a lower number of pixels per point.

In today’s example, the Nintendo Switch OLED drops to just 293 ppi, a drop of almost 9% from the 320 ppi of the first Switch. On a daily basis, this means that you are much more likely to distinguish the pixels on the screen of your new console by holding it about twenty centimeters from your eyes.

It shouldn’t happen every day, but it never feels good.

A HISTORY OF SUB-PIXELS

Moreover, for equal definition, an OLED panel may be worse than an LCD panel. Most OLED panels do not use an RGB matrix where each pixel is made up of three red, green and blue subpixels. Instead, we find Pentile matrices where each pixel is divided by only two subpixels: a green subpixel and a large blue or red subpixel.

If you are a little confused, remember that RGB matrices offer a thinner, more precise display. To compensate, the OLED panels of our smartphones will often seek higher definitions in order to avoid giving the impression that there are kinds of holes in the screen. With a definition that remains at 720 p, the Nintendo Switch OLED could be faced with this concern.

THE CONSTRAINTS OF NINTENDO

Finally, we will especially regret that the Nintendo Switch OLED does not seek a definition of 1920 x 1080 pixels, but the old Tegra X1 chip – the same as on the previous model – is probably not powerful enough to support such an optimization. .

We imagine that Nintendo wanted to limit as much as possible the increase in the selling price of its console. In this regard, speculation can be rife as to the release of a true Pro version incorporating a 1080p screen and even showing games in 4K through the dock. However, let’s not bet on such a model for at least a year.

As a reminder, the Nintendo Switch OLED will be released on October 8. In the United States, it will cost $ 349.99.

The mystery of the colored corners in the games of some Nintendo consoles: ut

Manufacturers have their own codes and sometimes these go unnoticed for years by us users, or we simply get used to it and do not give it more importance. Something that may have happened to us with colored corners on game boxes for some Nintendo consolesHave you ever wondered how useful they are?

What appears at one end of the side edge of the boxes are colored triangles. It is possible that many of your boxes have a single color, precisely due to the usefulness that this has, and they are triangles that we see in the boxes of Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, Wii and WiiU.

Tell me what color you are and I’ll let you know what language you speak

The issue has jumped onto the networks recently from the hand of Diego and his sister, as he explained from his Twitter account. Although the doubt has been swarming for a long time in forums and help websites with answers more or less aimed at what these colored triangles really are.

My sister was looking at the DS shelf and she asked me about the colored corners of the boxes. So we have dedicated ourselves to looking at the relationship.

It is a whole system of codes according to the language of the cover. Here is the explanation. pic.twitter.com/Un6Uy1LgXo

– Diego (@Caeolos) February 8, 2018

As you might think, it is a color code system that in this case refers to the language of the video game cover. Exists since 2001 with the launch of the GameCube and we find it in the game consoles that we have listed before.

It is something that exists for European games, as Diego also qualified in the Twitter thread. Thus, depending on what color they have in the corner, the covers will be in one or more languages:

  • Purple (EUR) – Multiple European languages (German, Spanish, English, French, Italian, Dutch).
  • Bright Yellow (EXP): English.
  • Dark Yellow (UXP) – English (for distribution and sale outside the UK).
  • Lila (EUU): English and Dutch.
  • “Yellow” (unspecified) (NEU5): German, English, Spanish, French, Dutch.
  • “Water” (FHUG): German, English, French, Spanish, Dutch.
  • Crimson: German, French, Dutch (to be confirmed).
  • Dark Green (UKV): English.
  • Indigo (NOE): German.
  • Red (FRA): French (games published by Nintendo).
  • Fuchsia (FRA): French (games published by third parties).
  • Orange (FAH): French and Dutch.
  • Light blue (HOL): Dutch.
  • “Rosa” (HUG): English and Dutch.
  • Light pink (ESP): Spanish.
  • Greenish blue (POR): Portuguese.
  • Matt yellow (PORT): Portuguese.
  • Ocre (EAP): Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Dark turquoise blue (ITA): Italian.
  • Greenish Yellow (SCN): Danish, English, Norwegian, Swedish.
  • Lime Green (SCN): Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish.
  • Lime Green (SCN): English.
  • Light Green (SWE): Swedish.
  • Deep Purple (SWD) – Danish and Swedish (can coexist with SWD version).
  • Garnet (SWF): Finnish and Swedish (Finnish before Swedish, probably for the Finnish market).
  • Brown (AUS): English (Australia and New Zealand, deprecated).

The special editions

Thus, in products for the European market, the boxes will always be “decorated” with these colors, although not always in the same way. We have pulled experts and knocked on the door of SamaGame, and there they have told us (and shown) that the collector’s editions they are different (although they maintain the triangle).

In addition, there are some boxes that do not have a triangle, being the exception to all those of the games for Europe. How could it be otherwise, it is ‘Pokémon’ that makes the difference and the only Nintendo 3Ds game boxes that they have no color code they are those of ‘Pokémon gold’, ‘Pokémon silver’ and ‘Pokémon crystal’.

So if you have ever wondered if this triangle had a utility, you are right, or perhaps you have already done research to satisfy your curiosity. From here we thank the guys from SamaGame for the cable and the graphic material (this specifically to Frankie and Sergio), fulfilling as always their role as experts in bedside video games.

[GUIDE] : How to play Mario Kart with your friends on Nintendo Switch (online and in person)

The new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been released for the Switch, and it is. There are more ways to play with your friends (and lose them afterwards) than ever before. Some of these options are a bit confusing, so we’ll walk you through how to play with your friends no matter where you are or how many switches you have.

Multiple people can play on a console with a split screen. Up to eight people can play on their own switches with wireless gaming. You can also play with up to twelve friends over the Internet with the online game. The switch also supports multiple controller configurations. Let’s see how to do each of these one by one.

Note: Switch controllers work a little differently from most consoles. Each switch comes with a pair of Joy-Con controllers that can be used as a single large controller for one person or as smaller individual controllers for two people. So if you want to play with four people, you only need two pairs of Joy-Con Controllers. You can also use Pro Controllers, although these are obviously limited to one per player.

Play local split screen with up to four players on a single switch

The easiest (and cheapest) way to play Mario Kart with your friends is with local multiplayer. This mode only requires one switch and a copy of Mario Kart (plus controllers for everyone). It will also be familiar to anyone who hurls blue shells at their friends and relatives from Super Nintendo.

To use this mode, choose Multiplayer from the main menu. Here you can select the number of people you want to play with, up to four players.

Then choose your game mode. If you choose Grand Prix, you will have to choose your difficulty (50cc, 100cc, etc.) before moving on to the next step.

You will see a screen like the one below where you can assign controllers to players. Press and hold the L and R (or SL and SR) buttons on your controller in the configuration you want to use. At the top of the screen, you will see the three different configuration options in which you can use your controllers.

For example, if you want to use the left and right parts of a Joy-Con controller separately, you would need to turn the controllers sideways and hold the SL and SR buttons on each controller. Your screen should look like this.

If you want to use both Joy-Con’s to create a full-size controller, press L and R on both halves of the Joy-Con on this screen. Your controller setup should look like this.

You can add up to four players using any combination of controllers. For example, if you have two pairs of Joy-Con, each half can be a stand-alone controller, allowing four people to play. In this case, your screen would look like this.

During this phase, you can easily pair controllers from other consoles to your Switch. To pair a Joy-Con controller with your Switch, hold the small, round button along the flat edge of the controller until the green row of lights begins to flash.

Joy-Con controllers will also automatically pair with any switch they are physically connected to. So if you want to share controllers between consoles, it’s as easy as sliding them on the Switch.

Once you’ve paired up and configured all of your controllers, you can choose your characters, customize your vehicles, and choose your track to start racing as usual.

Play with up to eight friends using wireless play

Split-screen multiplayer is cool, but it’s an old trick. If you really want to get the most out of your Switch, Wireless Playback Mode is where it is. In this mode, up to eight players can use up to eight switches to play a game in the same room, each with their own screen (or shared). Up to two players can play on a single Switch at a time in split-screen, which means you only need four or more switches for every eight people in the race. Likewise, you can do a four-way race with just two switches.

Wireless reading is slightly more complicated than split screen, but it’s still pretty easy. To get started, choose Wireless Play from the main Mario Kart screen. Choose the number of players who will play on the Switch console. So if you are going to play a two player race, but each person has their own Switch, you will choose “1P” from the main menu.

The first person to start Wireless Play will need to create a room that everyone can play in. This allows the switches to connect directly to each other without an internet connection. Select Create Room and press A.

After that, each switch that chooses wireless play near the first switch will see a screen like the one below. The room you just created should appear in the list of rooms under Lobby, with a counter showing the number of players in that room. Choose the room you want to join and press A.

Once everyone has joined the room, you can choose your character and customize your vehicle. In wireless play mode, each player can vote on the next map they want to run on and the game will randomly choose the next track from each player’s selections.

Play with your friends all over the world with the online game

While it’s nice to be in the same room with your friends while playing, so that you can hear their cries of rage, it’s not necessary. Mario Kart also allows you to play with your friends on the Internet. Up to twelve people can play in a single race using an online match, although only two people can share a single Switch. For a full Grand Prix of twelve people, you will need at least six switches.

To get started, choose Online Play from the main menu. As with wireless play, choose how many players will play on Switch, not how many will play in total.

From the Online Game menu, choose Friends. Global and Regional modes will match you with Mario Kart players from around the world, even if you’re not friends. For this guide, however, we’ll assume that you only want to piss off people who know where you live.

Just like in Wireless Play, you will need to create a room for you and your friends. You’ll also see a list of the people you’ve added as friends. You can select them from the menu to see if they are already in a room. Otherwise, you will need to create one. Select Create Room and press A.

When your friends log into the online game, they will see a checkered flag next to your name in their friends list. To join your room, they must select your name and press A.

Your friend will see your name as well as some statistics of the games you have played against each other. With Join highlighted, they must press A to start the game.

Currently, online play is free for everyone, but Nintendo will start charging for it sometime in the fall of 2017. While Nintendo has yet to commit to a price for this service, it will be less than $ 30 per. year. Enjoy the free race while it lasts!

How to add friends on Nintendo Switch

Like the PS4 and Xbox One, the Nintendo Switch allows you to add “friends” to play online and exchange information.

To add friends on Nintendo Switch

To be able to add Friends on Nintendo Switch, you must have an Internet connection. Then all you have to do is click on the user icon on the Home menu, then click on Add Friend, without forgetting of course to read your Friend Code beforehand. Explanations.

1. Send / Receive a Friend code

When you create an account online, you have a number assigned automatically by Nintendo: the Friend Code. The latter is accessible from the Profile screen.

To add a friend, you can either: request a friend’s code from a relative and send him a request via “Search with a Friend Code”, or give him your friend code.

2. Find a player with whom we have played

To send a friend request with a player you’ve just played online, select “Find a user you’ve played with”, then select a user to send them a friend request.

3. Suggestions from Friends

The “Friend Suggestions” section is also responsible for suggesting people you may know, for example based on mobile applications like Super Mario Run.

You can also search for friends via your Twitter and Facebook contacts, not to mention the 3DS and the Wii U.

4. Local friend request

Finally, it is possible to send a friend request locally. For this, the two players must be located nearby. On the console, all you have to do is select the “Find Locally” option, and follow the information on the screen.

Despite the “local” side of the maneuver, an Internet connection is necessary to validate the friend request. Note that each player can add a total of 300 friends.

VLC Media Player is being considered for Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch is on the rise: in addition to a series of exclusives, the sales figures are equally impressive. However, when it comes to video, the console is a little behind the rest: only recently has YouTube reached the Nintendo hybrid and other applications like Netflix or Amazon are not yet present on the console.

However, according to VentureBeat, the case may change. According to Jean-Baptiste Kempf, lead developer at VideoLan (which owns VLC), he has plans to bring the video player to Nintendo Switch.

VLC Media Player is one of the most popular and versatile software to run video on the PC and would be a novelty for the Nintendo Switch. It is worth noting that, although VLC is also available on Xbox One consoles, a PS4 version would be unlikely since, in Kempf’s words, PS4 already has its own media player and streaming service.

With this software, in theory, it would be possible to run personal videos on your Nintendo Switch. However, it is very unlikely that this will happen in the near future.

Would you like VLC to come to Switch?

Several Nintendo Switch titles appear to be out of print

It appears Nintendo is phasing out over 15 Nintendo Switch titles. ResetEra user Neoxon described each of the out-of-print titles according to Amazon. This comes just before the Nintendo Switch turns seven years old, with games spanning from 2017 to 2023.

The following titles appear to be out of stock at retailers:

  • Paper Mario: The King of Origami
  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Frost
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (2019)
  • Pikmin 3 Deluxe
  • Metroid Terror
  • Kirby Star Allies
  • Xenoblade 2 Chronicles
  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
  • Fire Emblem: Three Houses
  • Fire Emblem: Get involved
  • Yoshi’s Crafted World
  • WarioWare: Get it together!
  • Sports on Nintendo Switch
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Splatoon 2
  • Super Mario Maker 2
  • Mario Strikers: Battle League

If you still don’t own one of the titles above and want to add it to your collection, you should do so as soon as possible. When these titles go out of print, resale copies will be extremely expensive and well above the $60 MSRP. Get them while you can.

Why are Nintendo Switch titles out of print?

This could be for a few reasons, with the main idea being that Nintendo may be preparing to release a line of “Nintendo Selects” for the Nintendo Switch. Usually released at the end of each generation, this range of games benefits from significant discounts and is promoted under the Nintendo Selects brand. Additionally, it could be for Nintendo to rename them with compatibility for the Switch 2 or whatever the next console is called. It’s heavily speculated that the company will launch the Switch’s successor sometime in 2024, so the timing is largely right.

Overall, it’s very confusing to see titles like Fire Emblem commits, which isn’t even a year old yet and seems to be exhausted. The same can be said of Super Mario Odyssey, one of the best-selling games on the system. There are likely circumstances like the ones we described above, but no one can guess until we know more.

Although these games will not be physically available at retailers, they will still remain available for digital purchase on the eShop. We’ll keep an eye on this topic and update you on any additional titles when more information is found.

Nintendo Switch vs Smartphones

This week Huawei unveiled its new flagship smartphone, the Huawei Mate 20 X. It is an impressive device that combines the best that technology has to offer at the moment, with three rear cameras, a 5000 mAh battery, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of internal storage and the new octo-core Kirin processor. In addition, they have a massive 7.2 inch screen, making the Huawei Mate 20 X an attractive smartphone for entertainment, especially for watching videos and playing video games.

It must be because of this that Huawei felt it should make a comparison with the Nintendo Switch. And so it did. At one point in the presentation, Huawei showed its new smartphone with the Nintendo Switch side by side, stating that the Mate 20 X is the best portable video game machine. Is there any truth to this statement? We know in advance that it is an unfair comparison for several reasons, but we decided to take the bait of Huawei and make a comparison of Nintendo Switch with smartphones, based on the Huawei Mate 20 X.

Price – 899 euros vs 329 euros

This is how Justin Bieber (in DJ Khaled’s song) says, “it’s a no-brainer, it ain’t that hard to choose”. The Huawei Mate 20 X has better specs than the Nintendo Switch, but it is much more expensive. It is almost three times more expensive than Nintendo Switch in Europe, so it was bad if it didn’t have superior features. There’s no denying that the Huawei Mate 20 X’s screen is better… the battery also has more capacity, there’s more RAM and in theory the Kiri processor might even be higher than the Nintendo Switch’s Tegra X1, but for 329 euros, the Nintendo console does not unravel anything badly. This takes us to the next topic …

Games

The volume of games currently available for any smartphone is daunting, but few really matter. Both the App Store and Google Play are immersed in extremely low quality games. Although the volume of games on the Nintendo Switch eShop has increased significantly in recent months and, consequently, the quality has also decreased, the Nintendo console continues to have a vastly superior offer, not to mention the issue of exclusives.

Nintendo Switch has games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, among others, which were developed from scratch for the console and are not available on any other platforms. The quality of games for smartphones has increased lately, but the reality is that they are not yet on the same level as games developed exclusively for consoles. So on this issue, although you can play games on your smartphone like PUBG, Fortnite and Arena of Valor, the Nintendo Switch catalog is superior.

There are no games like that for smartphones yet

Controls

Touch controls even work well in some games, but in general, the physical buttons are much better for playing. Huawei seems to know this and has created an official accessory for the Huawei Mate 20 X. Despite this, the accessory only offers an analog and d-pad. The Nintendo Switch has all the buttons on a traditional controller. It also has the advantage that the joy-con has been designed as an integral part of the console concept and several games even allow you to play with only one joy-con, making it easy to live with a second player. Joy-Cons also have motion controls and HD Rumble, things that the Huawei accessory does not.

The Huawei Mate 20 X requires a separately purchased accessory to have physical controls.

Performance

Making direct comparisons is tricky because most Nintendo Switch games are not available for other devices, but we can take Fortnite Battle Royale, one of the most popular and most demanding games for mobile. Fortnite is also available for Nintendo Switch and Digital Foundry made a comparison between three versions: iOS, Android and Nintendo Switch. Although the Nintendo Switch loses in things like resolution and viewing distance, all mobile versions aim to reach 30 frames per second.

Therefore, the smartphone versions of Fortnite can be visually superior to the Nintendo Switch, but we cannot fail to mention that we are talking about equipment that cost between 800 and 900 euros, while the price of the Nintendo Switch is lower. Smartphones are capable of performing tasks that the Nintendo Switch does not, but the Nintendo console has the advantage of being a platform exclusively for games, which allows for an optimization and much better use of the hardware.

Unfortunately, we cannot compare how the games of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, DOOM and The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim would perform as these games are not available for smartphones (and there are not even similar games).

In the case of Fortnite, the smartphone versions are visually superior.

Drums

Finally, a point in favor of the Huawei Mate 20 X! According to Huawei’s comparison, your smartphone has a battery capable of playing Arena of Valor for more than 6 hours, while the same game on the Switch drains the battery in just over 3 hours. What is curious is that the Mate 20 X battery does not have a much larger capacity than the Switch battery. The Huawei smartphone has a 5000 mAh battery, while the Switch has a 4310 mAh battery. Perhaps the Nintendo Switch needs an optimization in this matter, since Huawei can extract more than 3 hours with a battery that is only slightly larger.

Other things to consider

As a gaming machine, there is no doubt that the Nintendo Switch is superior to any smartphone at the moment, contrary to Huawei’s claims. But we have to underline that smartphones have, on a daily basis, more uses than the Nintendo Switch. We can use smartphones as cameras, to work, make calls, browse social networks, watch videos on Youtube and Netflix and many other things that are not possible on Nintendo Switch.

As we said at the outset, it is not a fair comparison for either party. A smartphone is a device designed for multitasking, the Nintendo Switch is a dedicated gaming machine. Still, Nintendo could already have added more features, such as an application for Youtube and Netflix. Smartphones have another advantage for online games, which is Internet data. Nintendo Switch only has WiFi, which means you can’t play in the middle of the street unless you have an Internet connection.

A smartphone has more uses than the Nintendo Switch.

For a game like Arena of Valor, which is dependent on an Internet connection, I would say that a smartphone is better just for the sake of Internet data and portability. The Huawei Mate 20 X has a huge screen, but remains more portable than a Nintendo Switch, which increases its proportions due to the huge bezels and joy-con. However, Arena of Valor is an exception. It is a game that was developed on purpose for smartphones and whose touch controls work extremely well, but in other games, the Nintendo Switch wins the arm wrestling.

Which device do you prefer as a gaming machine: the Nintendo Switch or a high-end smartphone?

What is Red Dead Redemption Hardcore on PS4 and Nintendo Switch?

Red Dead Redemption is a game that, no matter how much time passes, will always be remembered as one of the most emblematic titles in Rockstar’s history. He certainly offered an open world way ahead of its time. And he did it without giving up an excellent story. Now that it’s coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch, many you can discover it or revive it. Do you want a challenge to rise to the occasion? choose extreme mode. Today here we tell you what it consists of and how it works.

The three aiming modes in Red Dead Redemption

Although the original Rockstar game did not have difficulty modes as such, there was a very organic way to get the same effect. In fact, if we accessed the “Shooting mode” options, we could change that option from Normal to Expert. And in the same way, we could also switch to easy mode (called Casual). But… what did they really change?

As you may have guessed from the name of the menu, really affected the aiming system of the game. So, while the Casual mode, the normal mode allows when shooting. That meant an auto-targeting system with the ability to better aim with the right stick on the controller. And finally, the Expert mode offereda system of.

However, you should know that these aiming modes should not be confused with the Hardcore mode that came to the game later. In fact, this additional difficulty level wasn’t available until the GOTY edition of Red Dead Redemption, for both PS3 and Xbox 360.

Hardcore Mode not only set the target to “Expert”, not being able to change it during the story, but added other modifications to make the game more complicated. Now, all of that has been carried over to the new version for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. And it is that, when you start the game, you must choose between Normal, Extreme or Undead Nightmarand. That Extreme is of course the Hardcore mode.

At the start of the game on PS4 and Switch you must choose the difficulty mode

In other words, if you choose “Extreme”, the aiming system will be fixed at “Expert”, apart from adding the rest of the mods. Therefore, if you want to modify the difficulty only in the targetedthen you will have to start in “Normal”

How does Red Dead Redemption Hardcore Mode work on PS4 and Nintendo Switch?

As you may have guessed, the Extreme Mode of this new version is exactly the same as the Hardcore mode of the original. Something logical, taking into account that this new title brings all the content of the GOTY version (without multiplayer, yes). Therefore, it means that it is an option for turn up the difficulty of Red Dead Redemption on many levels and not just with the target. Something unusual in Rockstar games, by the way. I have here the list of changes implying:

  • Aiming is permanently set to Expert
  • Max health is halved
  • Health regenerates more slowly and starts recharging after a longer delay
  • The DeadEye does not automatically fill over time. Must be earned by killing enemies or using items
  • Horses do not regenerate. If you are killed, you must buy, steal, ride, or tame another horse and then harness it to a post to earn the right to whistle call it. Also, horse deeds are still available and unlimited, but twice as expensive
  • Shop items cost more
  • Sales values are reduced
  • The amounts of rewards/loots (ammo and money) are reduced
  • Pardon letters are rare
  • Fame and honor gains are reduced
  • Mini-game stakes are reduced to accommodate money shortages
  • War Horse Deed must be purchased for $10,000 (available at any general store)
  • The Assassin suit increases the amount of DeadEye gained from kills, rather than regeneration over time
  • It only works on the original story. Undead Nightmare is not affected

How to change the aiming system in Red Dead Redemption?

Remember that this can only be done if you don’t play in Extreme mode. In that case, all you have to do is enter the pause menu. Then it’s time to go to “Options”, “Settings” and “Shooting mode” (or “Multiplayer Shooting Mode”).

In case we select the Expert Mode, we will have to aim ourselves, without any help, as if it were a traditional third person action game. Logically, this is much more difficult, but it is also a fantastic experience for the most purists.

On the other hand, you should know that the players who select this mode will have some advantages, such as the possibility of earn an additional 100 XP by completing gang hideouts. And who knows. You may even drop the occasional trophy throughout your adventure.

As a curiosity, think that the explosive rifle and the sniper rifles they are always in expert mode. Therefore, it is the clearest reference you have regarding what awaits you with the rest of the weapons if you activate it.

That’s how easy the aiming is configured in the original game

Cheats for Red Dead Redemption Expert aim mode

Finally, you should know that this aiming mode is more difficult to master, but it can also make a difference in some situations in which the automatic aiming limits us in movements. For example, it will be very useful when you have to aim accurately while dodging (or when we release the aim button).

In fact, that will avoid fixing the closest target, which is still not the most convenient. In addition, the Expert mode will also be of great help in areas with waves of enemies located very close together on the stage. basically because auto targeting can switch between enemies when we don’t need it.

Oh, and although that also works if you play with aids, keep in mind that health regeneration with cover is higher than without cover. Therefore, you may need to remember it here to take advantage of it and get an advantage.

In short, maybe if you are good players, the other modes are weighing you down a little mobility and speed when it comes to drawing when it’s time and in the most suitable way.

If you haven’t yet enjoyed red dead redemption, we remind you that a good appetizer for the adventure that awaits you is to read the analysis that we dedicated to it in its day. Also remember that the game comes to PS4 and Nintendo Switch with all the patches and content released so far, including the Undead Nightmare expansion. And if you want to complete the game 100% pay attention to our definitive guide to Red Dead Redemption.

Red Dead Redemption will come complete on the Nintendo Switch cartridge: you won’t need to download anything if you prefer the physical format

If you are a collector of physical games on Nintendo Switch, surely on more than one occasion you have had to deal with the cartridge that doesn’t actually contain the whole game, forcing you to download patches and/or updates to enjoy it. Fortunately, that will not be the case with , reassuring those who claimed that this annoyance would be repeated with the Rockstar Games game.

Occupying just 11.4 GB in its version for Nintendo Switch (via ), the capacity of 16 GB in the console cartridges was more than enough to place it in its entirety in physical format, including the DLC . Great news without a doubt, considering that the game itself is a game and not a game as many wanted.

That being said, obviously we will have to deal with the sacrifices required to fit the entire game inside the Nintendo Switch cartridge; The graphical comparisons have already told us what the game will look like, and logically the Switch version is quite notorious, although it is not far behind what the PS4 community will experience, a scandal that has already revealed its jaws without any remorse.

Red Dead Redemption for Switch and PS4: a “justified” port

Outside of the graphic section and the lack of additions (its only novelty is subtitles in Latin Spanish), the biggest annoyance surrounding the one for Nintendo Switch and PS4 is its price; selling a game released two generations ago for $50 was unacceptable for many playersespecially not being a game that justifies an expensive relaunch with at least some interesting new features.

Rockstar and Take-Two take the opposite view, resulting in quite a heated debate between fans and developers on forums and social media. We will have the final verdict in just a few days (August 17), although if you entered this news, surely the date you are waiting for is October 13the day the physical format of for Nintendo Switch will arrive.

Complete list with all DLC and Red Dead Redemption content on PS4 and Nintendo Switch

Red Dead Redemption arrives on PS4 and Nintendo Switch in digital format on August 17, 2023. In addition, it will also arrive in physical format on October 13, 2023. And while the game was already available on Xbox One, it’s great news for those who haven’t played it yet. Among other things, because comes with all DLC And not just with the Undead Nightmare expansion. Today we list all the contents What will this new version bring? And they are not exactly few!

Undead Nightmare on PS4 and Nintendo Switch

Controversies about the price of this port aside, the truth is that it absolutely includes all the content that came to have the original game. And there is no doubt that the most important of all is Undead Nightmare. In fact, it can be considered a separate game, since it is a independent expansion. A content focused on the same universe of the game, but that really would not be canon or that not related to the main story (still taking some references).

Undead Nightmare puts us in the shoes of ex-outlaw John Marston, who wakes up on his farm and discovers that the world has gone mad: deranged hordes have invaded the cities and American frontier outposts. It is in this context that Marston must go through a world torn apart by chaos and disorder in a desperate attempt to save his family using all the skills he has to survive long enough and find a cure.

This DLC was originally launched on October 26, 2010 and was priced at 9.99 euros. However, it was later included in the GOTY version of the game, which was also launched in physical format (for 29.99 euros).

List of all Undead Nightmare content on PS4 and Nintendo Switch

Here are all the novelties that this expansion brought at the time, and which will also come to this new version. Please note that it has been confirmed that there will be no multiplayer in this port. Still, you we list all the content I had this version:

  • zombie animals
  • A new secret location
  • Dynamic and new events
  • New multiplayer modes like Land Takeover
  • 8 new zombie characters for multiplayer
  • New outfits such as the Zombie Hunter Outfit, the One Piece Pajamas, the
  • Legend of the Apocalypse Outfit and at the end of the game, the Zombie Cowboy Outfit
  • El Trabuco, El Agua Bendita, La Antorcha and Cebo Zombie are new weapons to end the zombie plague. In addition, in the “physical” format, you can get the Tomahawk and the Explosive Rifle
  • New survivor activities and missions
  • Mythical creatures (the 4 horses of the apocalypse, Unicorn, Bigfoot and Chupacabras)
  • Zombie apocalypse, in which online players must help each other to survive the zombie plague that will attack them
  • New challenges, titles and trophies
  • Other minor news

  • During dusk and dawn, at 5:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., we will witness how the blocks are briefly converted into coins.
  • At 1:11 p.m. and already after midnight, at 1:11 a.m., we will see the appearance of a trio of Bloopers floating in the sky.

How to make Lakitu appear in watch mode

Lakitu He can be one of our most annoying enemies or one of our most neat allies. In the clock mode of the new Game & Watch it makes a small cameo and is rather the latter.

To the press the Pause / Set button in clock mode we can adjust the time of the device, showing shortly after the funny Lakitu carrying a wrench, apparently to help us. The best? Once the time is set, he will drop his tool and take a walk around the screen.

It is a minor detail, but just as curious: if we press buttons B and A at the same time in clock mode we will see how the bricks that serve to tell the time on the screen begin to shine with their own light.

The three special illustrations from Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros.

When we are not playing with the Game & Watch (or his watch) the screen will turn off giving us an illustration starring Mario, Luigi and Bowser’s minions. However, the fun thing in this case is that the drawing depends on what mode we have been using:

  • If the console goes into sleep mode with the clock, we will see an illustration of Mario sleeping soundly
  • If the console goes into sleep mode with the game Ball, we will see an illustration of Mario juggling.
  • Finally, if the console enters sleep mode in a game of Super Mario Bros. or SMB2: The Lost Levels, We will see that on that occasion, several enemies of our hero take a nap.

Extra Ball: Five Really Interesting Details from the Game & Watch Box

We close our review of secrets, tricks and curiosities with the box of the Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros., which is pure fanservice.

  • To start with, the front of the removable cover is a nod to level 1-1. Also, if we look at the markers we will see that there are 35 coins, one for each Mario year.
  • On the other hand, the back of the case takes us to Bowser’s castle, which awaits us patiently spitting fire.
  • Like the console itself, the box itself is a wink to those of the Game & Watch models launched during 1981, accommodating the contents and characteristics of the new console. Which means changing the Wide Screen original by Color Screen.
  • In fact, the title screen of Super Mario Bros. Color is superimposed on the case, revealing a Ball screen with Mario himself when the box is removed. Giving the set an even more retro look.
  • In addition, the reference marked on the right side flap is also a reference to the celebration itself: SM-35 refers to the 35th anniversary since the launch of Super Mario Bros.
  • Finally, and as is increasingly common in Nintendo theme packages, when pulling that flap we will see in the fold a thank you by Nintendo with Mario and Luigi from Ball (Mario version) juggling.
