The tri-Ace role-playing game could well return in the near future according to a discovery made on the Square Enix site.
License starocean made a comeback late last year with a sixth numbered installment (at least in Japan), Star Ocean: The Divine Force. Square-Enix seems determined to make all the episodes accessible on current platforms, especially those of sonybecause after the port on PS4 of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (the 3rd), Star Ocean: The Last Hope 4K & Full HD Remaster (the 4th) and the remaster Star Ocean: First Departure R (the 1st), it is obviously Star Ocean: The Second Story which will make its return.
They are our colleagues from RPGSite who reported the discovery of the logo of a certain Star Ocean: The Second Story R on the official website of Square-Enix at the following address: “”, visual which has since been removed. As its name seems to indicate, so it would be a remaster of the second episode released in 1998 in the Archipelago and not before 2000 in Europeor even a remake by being extremely lucky.
The choice of its title is strange to say the least, sincea PSP remake exists, Star Ocean: The Second Evolution, so why not do as for the first game and start from this more recent version? Well, maybe becausea remastering of the PS1 version already exists in Japan on PS4 and PSVita (just one upscale graphics). We bring it out without too much effort with a translation so it wouldn’t cost the publisher too much while allowing more Western players to enjoy it. If he takes the same path as Star Ocean: First Departure Rso it could be released on PS4 and Switch.
Brief, wait & seebut in this summer season of announcements, we shouldn’t have to wait too long for the full story. Star Ocean: The Divine Force is sold for €30.62 on Amazon.
