I watched episode 8, “The Boy’s Word.” How the series ended, we discuss without spoilers

1.5 months have passed since the announcement of the series “The Boy’s Word”. During this time, it managed to become the most popular in Russia, overtaking a number of large projects.

Today, December 21, the online cinema Wink released the final eighth episode of the series. Several events have happened recently. Demo versions of the seventh and eighth episodes were leaked online, and against this background, rumors arose that because of this, they decided to reshoot the final act.

At first, the authors denied it, but the actors also supported this theory. However, later the creators of the series still confirmed that they were not filming the 8th episode, but decided to completely remake it.

We have already finished watching the series, watched the leaked versions and are in a hurry to share our impressions. The main article will be without spoilers so as not to spoil the experience, but we will add a block in which we will discuss the ending (it is hidden, do not open it if you have not seen the ending yet).

How did the project turn out? Let’s figure it out.

Boys’ squabbles and what they lead to

If for some reason you don’t yet know what this series is, read our first opinion. All the details are there.

The last episode lasted 58 minutes. It, like the entire show, is based on Robert Garayev’s book “The Boy’s Word. Criminal Tatarstan 1970-2010s” and talks about youth groups of the late 1980s.

This does not mean that the movie follows the book exactly. But it adheres to many points in the original source.

I’ve seen a lot of controversy about the series itself. Many people are convinced that he romanticizes gangsterism and condones such behavior, but this is absolutely not the case.

This is a case where you shouldn’t judge by its cover. Indeed, the project attracts attention with its not-so-great characters and shows their “coolness” from the very first episodes. But the essence lies in the very disclosure of the idea. The series aims at something completely different, namely demonstrating the consequences of such behavior.

People can also be understood. After all, from the very first episodes it is obvious what young people can be inspired by (although there is a rating of 18+, but who stops): robberies, “squeezing” purses, small items and so on. There have been various discussions on this topic more than once, and there was even news that teenagers allegedly tried to repeat the actions of the series. The latter, however, has not yet been officially confirmed.

However, this is a demonstration of real life. And it is not as rosy as some would like.

“The Boy’s Word” is a story of a man coming of age. Inevitably painful and aggravated by geopolitical shifts in the history of the country. This project talks about real people and their destinies, and in one of the episodes it even clearly writes what happened to some of the heroes. And, believe me, there is nothing inspiring here.

However, I have quibbles with the execution or development of some of the characters. The same Aigul does not get the most pleasant development of her story, but it’s as if you don’t want to worry about her, because she was given little screen time. And where she took part, we mostly heard silence.

There are also overactings, typical of young actors. But this has almost no effect on the overall perception of the project. You see that here they tried to really bring to life that bygone era, the time of perestroika and the difficult life of the ordinary population.

And for such moments I would like to express special respect.

Why is it worth watching episode 8 again if you saw the leaked one?

Earlier, demo versions of the last two episodes of “A Boy’s Word” appeared online. They had their rough patches, and the final episode even featured blue and green screens.

These episodes were not processed. They were prepared for demonstration to the production staff, and they showed only the initial ideas that were glued together into the finished episode.

And if the merged 7th episode differs from the release one in small details, then in the 8th episode the second half turned out to be completely different. The points in history are placed approximately the same, but the goals for achieving them differ. These stories are told in a completely different way, and the final version turned out to be more dramatic and vibrant, as the authors promised us.

How did “The Boy’s Word” end?

Important: Spoilers hidden here. Don’t open them if you haven’t seen the latest episode yet. We warned.

I tell you about the story of the main characters.

Andrey, aka “Coat,” goes to the market to buy flowers for a meeting with his mother. He sells his last hat to buy a modest bouquet. However, at the market he is accidentally met by the owner of a video recorder, whom the guys robbed earlier. Result: Andrei is caught by the police and put in prison.

Marat joins the Komsomol, and the organizers help him deal with the offender Aigul. The police take him to the men’s room, and Marat beats him half to death. Result: Marat is broken and doesn’t know what to do next

Finally, Vova “Adidas”’s father does not want to see him anymore, having learned that he killed a man. He nevertheless decides to run away with his beloved to Abkhazia, she buys them tickets, because directions to Vova have already been sent out.

But the guy still decides to stop by to congratulate his father on his anniversary, despite Natasha’s requests not to do this. The employees call the police, they almost catch Adidas, but he escapes from the building, catching one of the policemen and taking his gun.

Immediately around the corner, he throws away his weapon, but other employees already consider him armed. Result: Vova does not have time to reach the car in which he was going to leave the country, he is shot by a police officer, and he dies in Natasha’s arms.

Will there be a second season of the series “The Boy’s Word”

It’s difficult to say anything here. The story itself is considered logically complete and does not require continuation.

Nevertheless, the series has gained enormous popularity among Russian audiences. And most often such phenomena end in continuation.

At the moment, there are no official statements about the extension of the project for season 2. However, on the project’s Instagram page (owned by Meta, whose activities are recognized as extremist in Russia and banned) it is said that “it’s too early to talk about the second season.”

The series “The Boy’s Word” is tearing up all the ratings in Russia. And moralists and deputies only increase views

Over the past two years, the leader in views and popularity among TV series in Russia has been the South Korean project “The Squid Game.” No one has managed to get ahead of him until today.

Zhora Kryzhovnikov’s sensational novelty “The Boy’s Word. Blood on the Asphalt” is now the leader in Russia according to the Kinopoisk Pro index. This service evaluates the popularity of TV series among viewers based on Yandex and Google data.

For the week from November 27 to December 3, 2023, the series gained 3394 interest points of Russian viewers. This is 2 times more than the Squid Game (1556 points).

Everyone helps the popularity of the series, even deputies

Initially, the project quickly became the leader of Kinopoisk thanks to its atmosphere and cast.

The Children’s Ombudsman called for the series to be checked for compliance with traditional values due to the “romanticization of gangsterism.” At the same time, Roskomnadzor also joined the inspection.

Today, producer Andrei Razin appealed to the prosecutor’s office because of the songs of the leader of “Tender May” Yuri Shatunov, sounded in the series “The Boy’s Word.” He accuses the authors of stealing intellectual property.

And even this is not all. The Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Family Protection, Nina Ostanina, sent letters to the Investigative Committee and Roskomnadzor with a request to check “The Boy’s Word” for propaganda of prohibited information.

I ask you, dear Andrey Yuryevich, to check two series – “The Boy’s Word” and “Food Block” – for propaganda and dissemination of prohibited information in them that can cause harm to the younger generation, including harm to the life and health of children, as well as the entire Russian society.

— excerpt from an address to the head of Roskomnadzor Andrey Lipov

And the other day in Irkutsk, a group of teenagers killed a 15-year-old peer who was standing with a group of friends at a bus stop. There was a similar scene in the series. Many immediately drew parallels. However, one of the detainees assured the investigation that he had not watched the series. The regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also officially denied the relationship with the series.

Against the backdrop of this news, the chairman of the Union of Fathers of the Novosibirsk Region, Sergei Mayorov, said that such series are dangerous for teenagers who perceive everything emotionally and at face value.

And in the wake of constant discussion, the project’s ratings, along with its popularity, are only growing.

Will the finale be reshot?

Something strange happened in Yaroslavl today. Crowds of teenagers rushed around the city in search of the film crew of the series. And information about the recruitment of extras began to appear in public pages.

Photo from a possible location for additional filming of one of the scenes in the series, Telegram “Overheard in Yaroslavl”

According to official information, the planned additional filming of episodes and scenes that were missing during editing is now underway.

However, there is another version – according to rumors, Kryzhovnikov is completely re-shooting the finale of the series, probably under public pressure.

The word “serrano” is prohibited in Riot Games and you can be punished for using it, but there is a reason for it

One of Riot Games’ eternal struggles is against toxicity in their games. He bad player behavior It has affected the company’s image on multiple occasions and they have made efforts for years to avoid a situation that has been shown to cause many users to avoid their video games. One of the last attempts at improvement was the introduction of a real-time intervention and text analysis system that has been introduced in Valorant in its most recent update. This tool can punish users who use the game chat to insult their teammates during games and it is quite useful. However, its implementation has led to a surreal moment that almost no one in the community has understood Spanish of the video game.

A new Valorant feature is to blame

If you type the word “serrano” in the Valorant chat, you will receive a punishment. This is not a joke. Just sending this text in a message triggers an automatic chat hang. The punishment is much more severe than it seems, since it blocks communications and prevents players from searching ranked matches or use the recently released Premier Mode. It didn’t take long for jokes about the ham to arrive. The situation has given rise to numerous jokes, but, above all, to great confusion in the community. The bulk of users simply did not understand what the problem was. It is normal because, in reality, this is a chain of problems.

The truth is that “serrano” if it is an insult. In Peru it is a derogatory way of referring to people with Andean features. A word that mixes the usual stereotypes against townspeople with racism due to the physical characteristics or cultural customs of the people who are defined by this term. No one in Spain or in most of Latin America uses it with this meaning, being much more common to use it to talk about ham or someone related to the mountains. However, the automated system does not take into account the cultural context or that of the conversation itself. Simply detects that it is an offensive word and applies punishments to the players.

— RBLS DANIKONGI ®️? (@DaniKongi) August 2, 2023

The rest of the problem has been created by both Riot Games and the community. The developers have sinned from a lack of foresight or knowledge. Although there may be a technical challenge that we’re not considering, avoiding the problem seems as easy as create exceptions per server and make “serrano” not a reason for punishment if you are connected in Europe. The spread of the news through social networks has not helped. There aren’t many reasons to type the word in video game chat, and most users have done so after being trolled by your teammates or enemies.

The only positive part of the situation is that players have the possibility to Submit a report to Riot Games Player Support if they have been punished for using the word disrespectfully to other team members or enemies. At the moment and in the absence of a definitive solution, yes, it is better to keep the serrano as a taboo subject in the tactical shooter.
