How to fix Android Auto error 16

Android Auto changes the Android interface to a more comfortable one for use in the car, either on the mobile itself or on the car screen. Generally it works fine, although sometimes it may refuse to work no matter how much you connect it, showing the message Communication error 16.

Android Auto errors are, of course, persistent. On the one hand, the system is bundled with languages and on the other there is the communication error 16, already a few years between us. Yes indeed, This error appears mainly with MIUI mobiles And the good news is that you have an easy solution, albeit in exchange for losing a feature.

Why this error happens

Google is not too specific with the description of the error. In the window that appears, the text “Android Auto has encountered an error. Communication error 16: There seems to be a problem. When safe, disconnect and reconnect the phone.” No matter how much you disconnect and connect the phone, the error persists, preventing you from using Android Auto.

The error is very widespread, and it is that everything indicates that it happens by a incompatibility with MIUI dual apps feature, specifically when Google services are duplicated for these “clones” of applications that allow you to use two accounts in apps like WhatsApp.

Therefore, in most cases this error appears on Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO mobiles that are using dual applications, although it could also appear with communication problems with the mobile, such as when you are using a poor quality USB cable and it disconnects. The difference is, if this is the case, generally doing what it says in the message (disconnecting and reconnecting the phone) should fix it.

How to fix Android Auto error 16

If you have a Xiaomi mobile with MIUI and there is no way to make Android Auto work, we have good news and bad news. The good news is that fixing the error is easy and you should have Android Auto up and running in a few minutes. The bad news is that in return you’ll have to do without the dual apps feature.

Dual applications is the MIUI function that duplicates an application so that you can configure a different account in an application that does not let you do it out of the box, such as WhatsApp. The Android Auto problem is not directly related to these app clones, but rather to a side effect: that a copy of Google services is created. Doing so causes Android Auto to “get confused” and stop working.

The solution is to disable the MIUI dual app. To do this, you must go to Settings – Applications – Dual Applications and enter the options section, on the gear icon. It is not enough to uncheck the box next to all the applications you have cloned, as this does not delete the copy of Google services that is causing the error.

In the dual apps options, tap Delete accounts to completely remove all dual apps and restart the mobile. When you return, Android Auto should work normally and without showing you the error.

This way of fixing Android Auto on a Xiaomi mobile has the disadvantage that you cannot use Dual Applications to clone apps. What you can do is install another app to clone apps, like Parallel Clone, which do not cause the error in Android Auto.

How to turn your Android TV into a console by just installing the RetroArch app

Having a television connected thanks to operating systems such as Tizen, webOS, Roku or Android TV, offers the user a world of possibilities. Use the device for more than just watching TV, something that we will put into practice with this tutorial to turn the TV into a retro console.

We are only going to need the installation of an application how is RetroArch and a file explorer on our television, if you do not have one. And step followed, we can delight ourselves in the wonderful world of retro games.

Our television is a retro game console

And the first step to come to fruition is to get hold of RetroArch, an application that disappeared we can download from the Google Play Store at this link and that we can also find conveniently updated in APK Mirror. At this point we are going to download the one that is compatible with our television or Android TV based device.

We bring the RetroArch app to a device that we will connect to our television, either by USB or directly in the internal memory. It is our choice. And then, if we do not have a file explorer, we install one from the Google Play Store. I always use File Commander although there are different ones that I can use.

RetroArch

File Commander

At that point, we open File Commander or the chosen app and look for and install the RetroArch app that we have in .apk format. Is about find the folder in which we have placed it, so using the root folder is the best option to make the task easier.

We are only going to have to install the application following the usual method and if everything proceeds normally, we will end up finding the application installed message on the screen.

With the application already installed, we exit the browser and we will see how it already appears among the apps that we can use on the TV. Since then, it only remains to configure it.

We will have to grant the app, the ability to access and write and read external storage and also the possibility of accessing photos and other multimedia files on our device.

With these permissions given, the first step will be install or load the corresponding kernel. After starting RetroArch we will see a first basic auto-configuration message and we will be able to go to the “Main Menu”

Download the kernel

To install the emulator on the machine we want to use, just enter “Load kernel”. In that section we click on “Download core” and we choose the one that interests us the most. The process does not take more than a few seconds and the variety of options is gigantic.

Once we have the emulator ready, it remains to start the game itself. We can have all the title images that we like stored on a USB connected to the TV and we will use the “Load Content” section to access them.

Once the folder is located, all the files we have appear and with .zip extensionas these are compressed files.

There, we have to choose the title we want to load and we will see how a new menu appears on the screen with two options from which we will choose “Load file” to start the game.

It is one of the methods to load a title, since the other is to load them in “Import content” and access the last section of the “Main menu” in which the downloaded emulator image appears.

There the titles that we have previously imported will appear and when clicking on them, we will only have to click on them to then select “Start” and start the game.

To use RetroArch on a TV or Android TV device we can use the remote control, but in some models of televisions it can give a problem and it is advisable to use a compatible control pad or some keyboards with directional keys of economic price that we can find in different stores in the network.

Take advantage of the seven free days of SkyShowtime on your Android: so you can subscribe from your mobile and cancel before the deadline expires

SkyShowtime entered Spain quite strongly. In the midst of all the Netflix controversy with the new shared account policies (which are not applied in all cases due to the difficulties involved), SkyShowtime arrived in our country with a groundbreaking offer: 50% lifetime discount on monthly subscription if you don’t cancel.

This allowed us to take a look at the catalog and have another video platform at a very attractive price. Unfortunately, it expired a few months ago, but what is still active is the free seven-day trial of SkyShowtimeand we tell you how to take advantage of it and how to cancel so that you are not charged anything.

How to watch SkyShowtime for free and cancel before you’re charged

Despite the controversy over disappearing content, SkyShowtime is a good complementary subscription if you get it at the right price. After the starting price of 2.99 euros, we have two plans: the monthly one or the annual one with a discount.

The monthly one costs 5.99 euros per month and the annual one for 46.99 euros per year. This is equivalent to paying eight months and a year costs 3.92 euros per month, which is not bad at all. Here, at the moment, we do not find different plans with advertising, different content or different resolutions.

But hey, as we say, There is a seven-day trial so you can assess if the content is worth it or if the viewing quality is what you expect, and this promotion only applies if we choose the manual subscription.

To take advantage of this trial, you have to go to the SkyShowtime website (not in the app) and create an account with email and password. In addition, you must fill out some information such as your payment method and, when everything is ready, the first week is free.

Once this is done, you can start browsing, but We recommend that the first step after creating the account is… cancel the subscription. In this way, the platform will not pass you the 5.99 euros for the first month, since the renewal is automatic if you do not cancel.

To do so, all you have to do is go to ‘My Account’ and select ‘Cancel Subscription’ under the ‘Plans and Payments’ tab. What’s happening? Well you can’t do it from your mobile. To cancel your SkyShowtime subscription, you have to go to the website and the process is quite annoying.

If you have the application downloaded, automatically when you enter your credentials on the web, the app will open. You must go back (to Chrome or whatever browser you use) and do the process from there.

Done this, you will be able to continue using SkyShowtime for free for the rest of the trial of seven days without fear of being charged anything at the end.

How to change launcher on Android TV and which ones are the best

The same as happens on mobiles and tablets, where anyone can customize their interface by downloading a launcher, Android TV also allows you to install these applications. They are not very popular, but there is more than one good example. We highlight our favorites.

Having Android on the TV allows mobile apps and games to run on a bigger screen. And if said Android is Android TV use from the remote control is significantly improved, also the compatibility of all applications. Even launchers: there is the option to exit the default interface customizing it with another aspect and use. Let’s see how to install them and which ones are the most recommended.

Install a new launcher to mark it as default

Android TV is still an Android even though it is adapted to television, so there is no faster way to change the interface than do the installation of a launcher and choose that it opens by default instead of the one that comes by system. Although yes, not in all devices with Android TV it is so simple.

The steps to change launcher on Android TV are as follows:

  • Install a new launcher on your device. For example, you can start with ATV Launcher.
  • Once ATV Launcher has downloaded, click on the start button on your remote control. Android TV should ask you if you want to choose the new ATV Launcher or the interface that your device brings by default.
  • Choose the new launcher and check the ‘Always’ option. You will have changed the interface on your Android TV.

This is the most common, but it is not always so simple: it is likely that the manufacturer of your device does not allow to apply another launcher by default. In that case you can try the following:

  • Go to the settings of your Android TV and go to ‘Applications’.
  • Click on ‘See all applications’ and scroll down to ‘Show system applications’.
  • Search for ‘Android TV Home’, access its menu and click on ‘Delete default actions‘. This eliminates the default opening of the system interface.
  • Press the start button and Android TV should show you the dialog to open ATV Launcher or the Android TV start application.

What are you still unable to change the launcher? It is time to get involved with a somewhat more complicated process and can damage your Android TV: you have to remove the default launcher from the system. To do this, carry out the following process, always having previously installed one of the launchers that we recommend:

  • If you didn’t already have it, download the TV File Commander file manager on your Android TV.
  • Make sure your Android TV and the device where you downloaded the Apk files are connected to the same WiFi.
  • Open File Commander and click on ‘File transfer to PC’.
  • Click on the big button ‘Power’ and type the URL in the browser of the device where you downloaded the Apks.
  • Go to the download folder of your Android TV (or any other, at your choice) and upload the files.
  • Go back to the TV File Commander on your Android TV, enter ‘Internal storage’, go to the folder where the Apks are and install them. You will have to accept the installation From Unknown Sources.
  • Once you have installed the files, touch remove the default launcher from your Android TV. Go to its settings, go to ‘Device Preferences’, go to ‘Information’ and repeatedly click on ‘Build number’ until the developer options are activated.
  • Go to ‘Status’ (within ‘Information’) and write down the IP address of your Android TV.
  • Go back with the remote control and enter the new developer options.
  • Activate the ‘Network debugging’ and you will have everything ready to connect via ADB with your Android TV. In the event that ‘USB debugging’ does not appear active: in this way it is also activated wirelessly.
  • Install the Remote ADB Shell application on your mobile or tablet and open it.
  • Enter the IP address you wrote down, the one that corresponds to your Android TV (do not touch the port). Remember that all devices have to be connected to the same WiFi.
  • Accept the permission for network debugging: it will appear on your TV screen.
  • Now copy this code “pm uninstall –user 0 com.google.android.tvlauncher” (without the quotes) and paste it into Remote ADB Shell, on mobile. You accept.
  • The default Android TV launcher installation will have been removed. This does not go away: it will be active again if you restore your device.
  • Once the ADB instruction has been completed, press the start button on your Android TV remote control and you will see that the launcher you installed loads. It may take a few seconds.
  • If you want to go back to the default interface of your Android TV, carry out the ADB loading process again by entering this code: “cmd package install-existing com.google.android.tvlauncher”. This will restore the deleted application.

Once you have the option to change the launcher on Android TV, let’s see which are the most recommended.

ATV Launcher

It is a somewhat outdated app since it has not been updated since 2018 (the paid version since 2019). Still, it’s a good replacement for the original interface if you basically need access to the applications you have installed. In addition, ATV Launcher allows you to apply widgets, it can show the covers at the start of compatible apps, it allows easy access to all installed Android apps (not just those specific to Android TV) and it has support for wallpapers.

ATV Launcher is available in two versions: one free and one paid (3.19 euros). Our recommendation is that you try the paid one: it is more up-to-date and works much better. In the event that you are not convinced you can always return it within two hours after purchase.

ATV Launcher Pro

Top TV Launcher 2

In line with the previous app, with Top TV Launcher 2 it is possible adapt the screen appearance while maintaining the Android TV aesthetic. The launcher allows you to customize the grid, change the wallpaper, cards can be designed from photos and icons and it also supports widgets.

Top TV Launcher 2 is a paid application (3.09 euros), although there is a trial version with which to check that everything works correctly before paying.

Google TV Launcher

If you don’t have a Chromecast with Google TV, you can install its launcher. It is an interface that should be reaching the rest of Android TV, but it is not yet found by default in all of them. And you can anticipate: install it by following the following tutorial.

Android Auto sounds bad: four tricks to improve the sound quality between your phone and the car

If when you go on a trip you always play your favorite music or podcasts on your Android Auto to liven up the journey and you are not satisfied with the sound quality, or even you do not hear the calls or the assistant’s instructions well, we have good and bad news for you: the bad news is that Google’s infotainment system does not have a tool to improve the audio, but Yes, there are effective solutions so that you can hear Android Auto and the sound that comes from there better..

Android Auto sounds bad. If we analyze in depth the reason for low quality sound or that it does not meet our expectations with the Google infotainment system, we will see that the critical points (leaving aside, of course, the sound system in your car with its respective limitations or possible problems) are in the connection between mobile phone and car, the sound quality of the file or the source configuration, in this case, our Android phone.

Thus, if the mobile phone and the console are connected via Bluetooth, then we face challenges such as interference or compression inherent to the technology to optimize transmission and energy consumption. Likewise, we cannot expect the same quality from a track with high-resolution sound as from a lightweight file that we have downloaded in. Finally, parameters such as volume, balance, equalization or even the sound mode configured in the application from which we play on the mobile affect the final result through the car.

I want to improve my sound experience with Android Auto

Of the possible causes why our sound experience with Android Auto can clearly be improved, some solutions can already be anticipated.

  • Better wired than Bluetooth. Wireless connections are exposed to problems such as drops, problems, delays, inferior data transfers… which with the cable you minimize the probability of happening or directly avoid. Transmitting with cable it is possible for the system to receive sound without loss or compression, which translates into sound with more sharpness and clarity.
  • With downloaded music there is less risk. In the same way that offline maps are insurance for areas without coverage, if you download the podcasts or albums that interest you to your mobile before starting your trip, you can choose the best quality for the process and enjoy it later. Otherwise, you are exposed to optimizing the use of mobile networks and the coverage.
  • Spend time setting up the playback app. It is worth investing some time in trying the different options offered by both players (if you have the music downloaded to the device) and streaming services that also allow it, such as Spotify or Amazon Music, for example the volume, the equalizer , sound effects, modes. So, if, for example, you use Spotify without downloading music, you can adjust the audio quality to the most ambitious (although you will use more data).

  • Beware of Dolby Atmos. Your phone may support Dolby Atmos, a technology that offers a more immersive and immersive experience. Bad news: Android Auto is not and that can result in some distortion or losses. So when you play music from your cell phone so that it plays in the car, it is better to deactivate it.

Android Auto is better with root: this app unlocks hidden settings and functions

Google places several limits on Android Auto that the community of developers and users do not always agree with, such as the applications that are allowed Android Auto XLauncher Unlocked is an application that allows us, on the one hand, to use unofficial apps on Android Auto and on the other. launch hidden Android Auto settings.

The application offers us more or fewer functions depending on whether we use it without root, with root and with its Xposed module active. If we fulfill this last case, we have access to all the functions and we can dUnlock all the power of Android Auto without touching any file.

An Android Auto launcher

Android Auto XLauncher Unlocked, or AAXLU for friends, is a new application that seeks to modify Android Auto and give us access to sections that Google does not normally allow us to access.

The application is a launcher for Android Auto and not for Android Auto, that is, it allows us to launch things from Android Auto, mostly options for developers and/or specific sections not accessible from the menus. In order to access all functions we need to grant root permission. If not, we can still use the application to launch the Android Auto settings, which is not bad considering that they are sometimes difficult to find.

AND what can we launch exactly? With the application we can open the Android Auto settings in its classic version or with the Material You design, in addition to several development and error resolution options such as developer settings, engineer settings, the PRIMES event viewer or the test. of application quality.

An important detail is that, by checking the box, you can have whatever you want be launched every time you open the application. In this way, you can use this application to, for example, access the Android Auto settings in its Material You versionevery time you open it.

Some of the hidden screens you can access with this launcher

If you have an application that allows you to use the The funny thing is that no file on the mobile is modifiedas if it happens with other similar applications such as AA AIO TWEAKER.

If you have root, Magisk, Xposed and want to give Android Auto your all, you can download AAXLU APK from Github. The application is open source, so you will also find the complete source code there.

Want to use Android Auto on your motorcycle? With this screen it is possible

A new on-board computer brings Android Auto to the motorcycle. Unfortunately, there are still some snags with the smart screen.

With NaviCam you use Android Auto on a motorcycle

Android Auto is extremely popular. Almost all car manufacturers support the on-the-road platform, but this does not apply to motorcycles. Not yet, anyway. , a Hong Kong company, wants to change this.

With the NaviCam you use Android Auto on a motorcycle. This mini computer has a 6.86-inch LCD screen, runs Linux and connects wirelessly to smartphones. An aluminum bracket attached to the engine keeps the on-board computer in place.

After all, the NaviCam is more than ‘just’ a screen. The computer can connect to phones and other accessories via Bluetooth and WiFi and has voice navigation thanks to the Google Assistant. Thanks to the maximum brightness of 1000 nits, the display is always readable, even in bright sunlight.

Speaking of weather conditions: the NaviCam has an IP65 certificate. This means that it can withstand dust and water splashes, but is not suitable for rides in the pouring rain. You can also expand the NaviCam with all kinds of accessories, including cameras to film the traffic around you.

Recommended retail price and points of interest

The NaviCam has had a successful launch and the first units are now being delivered. The first buyers received a discount, but via the manufacturer’s official website the engine computer costs 282.95 euros, excluding shipping costs. As mentioned, the NaviCam is supplied with an aluminum bracket. A power cable and remote control are also included.

Although the NaviCam brings Android Auto to motorcycles, there are some drawbacks. For example, the company has not yet managed to release over-the-air updates. This means you have to download new firmware from the NaviCam website, put these files on an SD card and then insert the card into the screen.

AnyDesk, complete guide: this is how the application works to access your computer from Android

You’ve probably heard of apps like Team Viewer and Google Chrome Remote Desktop. These applications are generally used for remote access from one device to anotherand are useful for controlling the computer from the mobile. There are several, but one of the most popular is AnyDesk, not only because it works well, but because it is completely free for personal use.

AnyDesk doesn’t require advanced computer skills or anything like that, you just need to have a stable WiFi connection and smartphone, Android or iPhone. It’s a really comprehensive app, so let’s see how it’s used and how to get all the juice out.

The best Android apps of 2019 (so far)

How to download and configure AnyDesk

The basis for the operation of AnyDesk is the DeskRT codec. This one, which was developed by the company itself, is able to compress and transfer the image of a device « without any problem, even with a bandwidth of only 100 kb per second ». It doesn’t require any kind of weird configuration by the user, to the point that no program should be installed on the computer. It is an executable that you will launch only and exclusively when you want to use it.

For those who are concerned with security. AnyDesk uses TLS 1.2 and RSA 2048 encryption to verify user identity

How it works? Very simple. The first thing you need to do is go to AnyDesk website and download the client for your desktop operating system. It’s available for Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD, and Raspberry Pi. Once you have it, go to Google Play and download the Android app. You must have installed the app on both devicesYes, because you will need to complete the following steps:

  • Run the downloaded file on your PC or Mac.
  • A window with a nine-digit code appears.
  • Open the app on your mobile.
  • In the « Other Tasks » section, enter the nine-digit code displayed on the computer.
  • On the computer, a window will appear in which you will have to accept the incoming connection. Do it.

This code is that you need to enter on your mobile to connect to the computer.

When you accept the connection, your computer screen immediately appears on the mobile and you can control it as usual. It is important to note that you do not need to be connected to the same WiFi network as the computer, so you can use AnyDesk to, for example, control the home office PC, and vice versa.

Understanding the controls

By default, the activated controls are tactile, so to manipulate yourself through the interface, you will need to know what each gesture does:

  • Swipe with one finger: move the cursor.
  • Press: left click.
  • Long press: right click.
  • Long press twice (hold the second press): select.
  • Swipe with three fingers: scroll the screen.

These are the basics, but let’s go deeper. During the remote session, you will see that a black button appears with the logo of the app. If you hold it down, a cake drop-down menu will appear with different access. The first concerns the parameters from which we can modify the data entry, the quality of the streaming and the sound. Do not touch anything, because it is configured, it works perfectly.

The button below (marked in yellow) is the options d’introduction, which is divided into five sections. From top to bottom:

  • Special buttons like F1, system key, command, etc.
  • Keyboard: open the default keyboard that you have configured on your mobile (although when you click on a text box, it does so automatically).
  • Mouse emulation: this is the default mode, you control the computer screen with basic mouse gestures.
  • Touchpad emulation: AnyDesk will make the mobile screen behave like a “touchpad” on the computer.
  • Transmit gestures: the app transfers gestures from the phone to the computer, provided they are compatible.

The next button is used to change monitor, something not too useful if you only have one. However, if you had two screens connected in turn, you can switch between them. In general, you will use it rather little.

All actions available on AnyDesk

The third button is the ActionsIt is interesting to know what this is for. From top to bottom, the functions are:

  • Take a screenshot.
Move the AnyDesk button to another location.
  • Download files to the remote computer: when you touch them, your mobile’s file manager opens. Select the desired file and, on your computer, press Ctrl + V to paste it.
  • Download the file from the computer: you just have to copy any file from your computer (right click> copy) and click this button to download the file to your mobile.
  • Request Elevation: This function requests administrator access to the remote device.
  • Send the command Ctrl + Alt + Del to the remote device.
  • VPN activation: if supported by the computer, a « tunneled » connection will be applied to the session.
  • Confidentiality mode: the session will become private.

The last button, which appears as an X below, is used to disconnect instantly. This is quick access to avoid having to tap and close it from the main app window.

And can the mobile be controlled from the computer?

Remotely controlling a Xiaomi with Android 10 using AnyDesk

Yes, but not all devices (It will depend on the manufacturer and the Android version). To access the mobile control from the computer, it is necessary to allow AnyDesk to appear above other applications. Once the authorization has been granted and as long as the mobile is compatible, the mouse can transfer the keys to the mobile remotely.

To control the phone remotely, you need to allow AnyDesk to overlap other apps

In addition to controlling the mobile from the computer, which is not possible on all models, AnyDesk allows you to see the phone screen remotely. This can be useful, for example, when a family member calls you because something is wrong with your mobile. If you install the app, you can give you directions and mark where you need to press.

In case you have a Samsung mobile or tablet, you will need to perform a few more steps to view (and control) the mobile screen on the computer:

  • Open the app on your Samsung and give it all the necessary permissions.
  • On your computer, enter the nine-digit code that appears on the mobile.
  • Accept the Knox terms and conditions which will appear on your mobile.
  • When finished, the mobile screen will be played on the computer and you can control it with the mouse as if it was your finger.

If you are using a mobile with physical buttons (for example, we tested it on a Galaxy S7 edge), to go back, you will have to press the « Esc » key. If you have a Samsung Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S8, which has the navigation bar integrated into the screen, you shouldn’t have a bigger problem. By the way, you can control the mobile from another mobile, you don’t need to use the computer.

AnyDesk, advantages and disadvantages

What is certain is that AnyDesk works really well. When you control the computer from the mobile, the response is instantaneous, although sometimes you have to be very precise with the keys. For example, I am using an ultra wide monitor so the screen looks a bit small and you have to make it bigger if you want to play well and not accidentally close a window.

Sending files is magicIt works great, great even with relatively large files, and the fact that you don’t have to configure anything makes the experience pretty good.

Saving the little fluidity when controlling the mobile from the PC, AnyDesk works perfectly and fulfills its mission

It is also possible For writing. In fact, I am writing this paragraph controlling the computer from the mobile and, although it is true that I do it more slowly than if I were using the PC keyboard (because we cannot activate the automatic corrector, mainly ), we cannot order more.

It’s hard to put a single take, to the point that the only negative point is that it does not control all Android phones or iPhones. For the rest, it is a highly recommended application and, for more information, completely free for private use. If you want to use it at the corporate level, prices start from five euros.

BENEFITS THE DISADVANTAGES
  • Navigation is smooth and transparent, even on less powerful connections.
  • It’s multiplatform.
  • You can send and receive files.
  • It’s totally free.
  • Not all Android devices can be controlled from the computer.
  • Mobile control can be somewhat slow.

Android TV in x86 version exists: it is now possible to turn an old PC into a Smart TV

A Android TV version for x86 processors opens the door for anyone to turn an old PC into a practical Smart TV. With Google services and applications included, although without the possibility of having the Chromecast integrated, at least for now.

Android is developed for the ARM architecture, although Google created versions for x86 processors of this operating system (there is even a project that adapts it to PCs, Android x86). What we didn’t have was a Android TV version for CISC-type processors, a stumbling block that has been saved by independent developers. In this way it is possible to install the Google operating system for televisions on a PC, with all the possibilities that this entails. Now, it still has too many bugs to be 100% functional.

Remarkable possibilities, although limited in time

Image from RIMI 2k17 (XDA Developers)

The x86 version is an adaptation for PC processors developed by AmznUser444 Dev and posted on the popular XDA Developers forum. The version is fully functional and allows installation on a PC. Requires a 64-bit dual-core processor with at least 1.2 GHz speed, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, 64 MB of video memory and a minimum resolution of 1,280 x 720. It is also recommended that you can connect to the TV if you want the Android TV x86 to be the player, but a computer monitor also works.

Since development is experimental, and evolution still has a lot of room for improvement, this version of Android TV for x86 SoCs has several problems. One of the main ones is that Chromecast built-in does not work, one of the notable hardware advantages with Android TV. There are also problems with video playback since there are native apps for that operating system that do not finish working, such as Netflix. Although, according to those who have tried it, the version of Netflix for mobile can be installed, that does seem to work.

This type of development allows you to take advantage of a somewhat old PC, although Windows probably offers more playback options than an adapted Android TV (and a Google TV is so cheap that it is probably not worth fighting with an old PC). Even so, it is still an important advance that should be tracked: you can download the latest ISO with Android TV 9 Pie from the project page.

The legendary POCO F3 is left without Android 14, just like the Xiaomi 12X. In exchange, they will update to MIUI 15, according to Xiaomiui

One of the most popular brands from East Asia is Xiaomi, with two very well-positioned subbrands such as Redmi and POCO. This second protagonist He left us very good memories with his first terminalthe nostalgic Poco F1 that we put to the test in 2023.

And they didn’t do anything wrong with the Poco F3, which became great value for money in one of the unbeatables until relatively recently. Well, unfortunately, your medium It seems to be reaching the end of the road, after two years receiving updates.

The POCO F3 says goodbye to the new version of Android, although Xiaomi will continue updating it

He support and years of updates They are gradually gaining more interest from users who worry that the device for which they pay hundreds of euros stays up to date with updates. Xiaomi and its MIUI do not have a good reputation in relation to this aspect, and it seems that they have already gotten to work, offering 4 years of updates for a specific model.

The next software updates for the POCO F3 will not bring Android 14. Image | SamaGame

As a rule, Xiaomi updates its devices during two years, bringing the new versions of MIUI and Android closer in this period. After going on the market with Android 11, and updating first to Android 12 and then to Android 13, the legendary Poco F3 says goodbye to the imminent Android 14. The next Google update has already been announced by manufacturers such as Samsung or OnePlus, with betas ready to test, and awaiting Google’s starting signal.

Thus, the POCO smartphone would not have new functions such as the new predictive “Back” gesture, at least not from the base of the system. Because really, it could inherit many of its features as long as they are included in the future MIUI 15 that we will soon see.

In addition to the aforementioned POCO terminal, two Xiaomi devices are added to the list: the Xiaomi 12X and Xiaomi 10S. As we say, just because they run out of future versions of the Google system does not mean that the manufacturer will not update its customization layer.

Therefore, we can expect a version of MIUI 15 running on Android 13. Furthermore, as we read in Xiaomiui, a couple of compilations have been spotted that correspond to this duality, so Xiaomi would already be working so that the union between MIUI-Android improves the user experience.

This case now leads us to another question: What will happen to the Poco F4? And the truth is that the only thing we have so far is uncertainty. We can have a little more hope as it has been on the market for a year less, but its similarities make it another possible candidate.

Be that as it may, we must be patient until, first, we know the final version of Android 14, and later, we discover Xiaomi’s plans with this update. That will be when all doubts will be clarified and we will know if the Chinese manufacturer’s policy regarding support has changed.

“Huawei P30 Pro Will Still Receive Android 11 Update”

Since the US sanctions in 2019, there has been a lot of uncertainty about the rollout of future Android updates for Huawei smartphones. However, there are now rumors going around that speak of an Android 11 update for the Huawei P30 and the P30 Pro.

Because Huawei has been blacklisted by the US government, the Chinese manufacturer is no longer allowed to collaborate with Google. As a result, Huawei is currently unable to market new Android smartphones that use Google services. The future of Android updates for existing smartphones also does not look bright, because people outside China attach great importance to applications such as Gmail, Maps and YouTube. The absence of these Google services in future Android updates will not be appreciated by users.

However, Huawei is still working on Android updates. Huawei previously indicated that the manufacturer will continue to work on security updates and customer service for existing Android smartphones. The manufacturer also indicated that the Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro will receive an Android 10 update. However, according to the German website SmartDroid, Huawei will also roll out an Android 11 update.

Following an earlier message about the P30 series, a Huawei PR employee reportedly contacted the website. This employee indicated that the Huawei P30 will be updated to Android 11. This is remarkable since Huawei has been working on its own operating system Harmony OS 2.0 for some time. However, this operating system is based on Android 10. Information about Huawei and Android 11 has not surfaced before. We therefore wonder whether Huawei has indeed been working hard behind the scenes on an Android 11 update or whether this message may be incorrect.

Samsung Galaxy S23 users are reporting problems with Android Auto

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series was recently announced, but some users are experiencing connection issues with Android Auto. This makes using the smart car radio a lot more inconvenient.

No automatic connection with Samsung Galaxy S23

Android Auto is special software for infotainment systems in modern cars. Your phone connects to your car screen using a USB cable or Bluetooth, but this does not work for users of a Samsung Galaxy S23, S23 Plus or S23 Ultra. The smartphones do not connect automatically or at all with Android Auto. This makes listening to music or navigating suddenly a lot more difficult behind the wheel.

Dozens of users are reporting the connection issues on the Google Support page and users are also sharing this problem. It is not known what the root cause is. Most likely the solution lies in a software update. In any case, Google collects the technical data from those who experience the problem.

It is not the first time that Samsung smartphones have had problems with Android Auto. Last year’s Galaxy S22 phones also had trouble with this after launch. Users were then shown a black screen instead of the Android Auto interface. Only after about seven months were most problems resolved with an update.

Hopefully we won’t have to wait so long for Samsung this time, but a solution will come soon. Some users report that this problem is reason enough for them to switch to another smartphone.

More about Android Auto

With Android Auto you connect your phone to your car. The screen in the middle of your car turns into an interface with apps that work with it. This way you can easily listen to your favorite music via Spotify, navigate through the city with Google Maps and be served by the Google Assistant.

More and more modern vehicles have Android Auto built in as standard, but you can also install a modern car radio yourself. Check our list of five built-in radios that bring Android Auto to your car. Do you already have Android Auto and do you want to get the most out of it? Then read our five useful Android Auto tips.

Android tips: What can you do with an old smartwatch?

Congratulations on your new smartwatch! In this edition of Android tips we show what you can do with an old smart watch.

Android tips for old smartwatches

Many people keep their old smartwatch in the drawer. That’s quite a shame, because there are more than enough ways to give the watch a second life, or to earn something from it.

In this edition of Android tips we show what you can do with an old smartwatch. The list is certainly not complete, but hopefully we will help you on your way.

1. Reuse old smartwatch

Starting with the simplest solution. After all, you can also just keep an old smartwatch on hand. If your current watch suddenly breaks down, you always have a spare model on hand.

You can also continue to use an old smartwatch, for example as a sleep tracker. By wearing the watch at night, you can map your sleep pattern and see how effective your night’s sleep was. An additional advantage is that your new watch always has enough power, because it can be charged overnight.

Also useful: use your old watch as a cycle computer or sports buddy. The average smartwatch is packed with sensors that can measure, among other things, the kilometers traveled, average speed and the number of calories burned.

2. Recycle

There are only winners in recycling old smartwatches. You may not think about it, but a discarded clock is packed with precious materials such as gold, platinum and silver.

By recycling a smartwatch, no new raw materials need to be extracted and the mountain of electronic waste (e-waste) will in any case not increase.

You can recycle an old smartwatch in several ways. When you buy a new watch, you can often leave the old model with the seller, but you can also find return bins for electronic waste in the hardware store or large supermarket. The WeCycle website shows collection points near you.

3. Sell

Smartwatches seem to be getting more and more expensive, but you can keep the price down by selling the old model. The value depends, among other things, on the specific model, its external condition and technical condition. Depending on these conditions, you can ask for a few tens to hundreds of euros.

Those who do not feel like negotiating with private individuals on Marktplaats or in Facebook groups can also sell directly to companies. There are several companies specialized in buying second-hand electronics, such as smart watches.

These websites actually always work the same. First you register your old clock via the website, after which a bid will be made. If this amount is sufficient, you send the package (usually free of charge). The buyer will then check the old smartwatch and pay out if the watch matches expectations.

4. An original gift

Smart watches are becoming increasingly popular, but not everyone has one. An old smartwatch is therefore an ideal gift – provided it still looks neat, of course.

By giving away your clock, others can easily become acquainted with all the benefits, without having to break the bank.

5. Hobbying

Are you a hobbyist? Or would you like to become more adept with technology? You can also take your old watch apart and subject it to a so-called .

In these types of videos, gadgets, such as smartwatches, are taken apart to see how everything works under the hood. Of course, you can also do this yourself. Who knows, you might learn something about the underlying technology, or at least find out what not to do.

Are you a real Handy Harry? Then the possibilities are virtually endless and you can creatively reuse an old smartwatch. For example, there are videos on the internet of people transforming their watches into a retro alarm clock or making a completely new watch with old materials.

6. An alarm clock or flashlight

Don’t want a smartphone in the bedroom, but do you need an alarm clock to wake up? An old smartwatch is ideal for this. You don’t even have to wear it, because you can just put it on your bedside table.

Speaking of which, you can also use a smart watch as a flashlight. Of course, you shouldn’t expect too much from this – as soon as you turn on the flashlight mode, the screen turns white (or yellow) – but the screen shines bright enough to navigate through the house at night, for example, without any problems.

How to have Microsoft Project xCloud on an Android TV and play all of its games

Although in principle it is not compatible, you can test Microsoft Project xCloud games on your Android TV: You only need an invitation to the streaming platform, a Bluetooth wireless controller (preferably Xbox One) and the steps that we explain in this article.

Not long ago, Microsoft Project xCloud extended its borders to reach territories such as Spain; and we have already been able to thoroughly test the game streaming platform. We not only tested it on several Android phones, also on a device with Android TV. Microsoft is not saying that this system is compatible, but the truth is that it works really well. Do you want to try it on your TV or player with Android TV? We teach you all the steps.

Check here : List of the 150 BEST games on xCloud Project

xCloud is suitable for Android TV

According to Microsoft specifications, Project xCloud is only suitable for mobile devices with a minimum of Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Bluetooth 4.0. The requirement is clear: mobile. In fact, if you try to install the app that opens the door to game streaming, Xbox Game Streaming, you will see that your Android TV does not appear in the list of compatible devices. But that doesn’t mean these devices are disabled for Project xCloud, on the contrary.

Check here : Ori and Wisp’s Will, Pillars of Eternity, and three more games join the xCloud Preview project

We tested the streaming service on a 2017 Nvdia Shield TV with Android TV 9 Pie and the official Nvidia controller itself. After our testing, there is no limitation on using Bluetooth controllers that are compatible with Project xCloud: despite Microsoft claiming that an Xbox One controller is required, the truth is that Other wireless controls work, like the PS4, the Switch Pro controller or from the Nvidia Shield TV. And the experience is excellent.

Let’s go with what we were looking for: How to install Microsoft Project xCloud on an Android TV? The Xbox Game Streaming app is not available for the system, but there aren’t many complications when starting the streaming platform: it’s just like that.

  • Go to the Google Play store on your Android TV and find a file manager. TV File Commander is a very good recommendation.
  • Download the latest version of Xbox Game Streaming for Android from Apk Mirror and upload the file to your Drive account.
  • Open TV File Commander on your TV, sign in to your Google Drive account, and install the Xbox Game Streaming Apk.
  • As the Microsoft application is a file which is not distributed on Android TV access will not appear on the TV interface. To use it, you need a launcher, like Sideload Launcher. Install it on your Android TV.

Side-loading launcher

  • Open Sideload Launcher and run Xbox Game Streaming.
  • Sign in with your Xbox account (remember you need a Project xCloud invite): the connection will open in a web browser, you need to have it installed (you can use Puffin TV).

Check here : Game Pass and xCloud – All the news about Xbox services

With the above, you will have quick access to Microsoft Project xCloud, but another essential element is missing: the command. You need to connect a Bluetooth wireless controller to your Android TV, always keeping in mind that it should at least be Bluetooth 4.0. The Xbox One controller has the best performance, but you can also play with other controls, such as the PS4 or Nintendo Switch.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider on Android TV with Project xCloud

The xCloud experience on the TV screen is excellent: Microsoft has adapted the interface so that it can be used without complications on televisions. You can browse the game catalog horizontally, menus are easily accessible, and the game runs while taking up all available space, just like starting an Xbox connected to the TV. Of course, right now at 720p.

How to Watch All TV Channels on Android TV with Freeview Channels App

Having Android on TV is becoming more and more common as Android TV is found on a wide range of TVs, also on HDMI players. This series, not always access to TNT channels, especially regional; a deficiency which is corrected with an application like TDT Channels. This app offers a large number of TV and radio channels, all suitable for Android TV.

Despite the fact that Android TV is an operating system suitable for televisions, this does not mean that all free TNT channels are seen on televisions equipped with this system. It’s possible that you want to see a channel of another autonomy, for example; or the one that does not complete the agreement with your antenna well. Additionally, players like the Xiaomi Mi Box S don’t have a TV tuner; Therefore, the only way to watch TV, at least in what we understand by this concept, is with dedicated apps. And one of those apps is DTT Channels: the app is comprehensive, works great, and is perfect for Android TV.

All TV channels in one app

With TNT channels, you can also access radio stations on your Android TV

TDT Channels is an application for Android that we have spoken about on occasion. It is developed by Marc Vila on the basis of open source software. And recently, he untied the development of the Open Source version to focus on improving the app, both for “normal” Android devices and for the Android TV version. Specifically, TDT Channels have been updated these days to offer notable improvements, specially for the television version.

As we said, and despite the fact that Android TV is for TVs, this does not imply that the operating system offers a native TV tuner since this only happens on smart TVs. Therefore, having an app that gives access to all TNT, both at state level and by communities and regions, is always a good idea. Not only that, TDT Channels also offers radio stations, is a complete multimedia combo.

Filtering channels by category and autonomous community

The operation is as expected: just search for a channel in the large list of included to be able to play it with a few clicks on your remote control. This, yes, TDT Channels is an app not found on Google Play, so its installation is a little more cumbersome than usual. You can install it on your Android TV as follows:

  • Since it is necessary to fight with APK files on the TV, it is recommended to use a file manager. Our recommendation is TV File Commander, download it from the store of your TV or player.
  • Download the latest TNT channel file from their website and upload it to your Google Drive. The best place is the root folder.
  • Go to the newly installed file manager on your Android TV and go to the Drive section. Sign in with your google account.
  • Enter Google Drive, find the file for the TNT channels and click on it: your Android TV will install it like any APK is installed on your mobile.

The use of TNT channels on Android TV is intuitive: you have the list of TV channels and the list of radios, for both of them you can move with the remote control. In addition, the application allows you save channels and stations as favorites for direct access (It is worth taking a little time). You also have the possibility of filtering the channels by category and by autonomous community: you can thus access programs that are not available in your territory.

TDT Channels does not offer pay channels since all included are freely accessible. The application collects and updates all the links with which the different TV channels broadcast on the Internet, it has no advertising and it is free.

My phone gets too hot with Android Auto: these are the tricks I use to keep the temperature under control

These days of infernal heat take their toll, on our health, habits and also on our devices… tell me, I have the car’s air conditioning in fits and starts. With this scenario, connecting my phone to the car to use Android Auto is an ordeal that is not the first time that it ends with the mobile slowing down and ceasing to charge. As if the connection and the activity of Android Auto were not enough, there are users of the Google infotainment system who in recent months have reported that their phone gets hot (as you can read in the Google help forums). Either way, If using Android Auto means that your mobile gets too hot as it happens to me, then I will tell you what I do to deal with high temperatures.

better cordless

Although I am a strong advocate of using Android Auto by connecting the phone with a cable mainly to have a more stable connection and because I usually make long tripswhich implies an excessive consumption of battery with the passing of the hours, which implies leaving the mobile dry, in these summer months I opt for the wireless connection.

Precisely one of the reasons for doing so is to reduce activity, since with the wireless connection the mobile does not charge. Is it a problem that the phone charges when running Android Auto? Sticking exclusively to the temperature, yes, since the charging process implies the generation of waste heat.

Without cover and in a cool and shaded place

If you are in the habit of connecting your phone to Android Auto with cable, you will have found yourself at a crossroads with the length of this: if it is too short, you will have the device near the dashboard, which implies finding a safe place for it and where it does not disturb. If it’s too long…excess cable everywhere.

If we consider the factor of temperature and sunlightBy getting rid of the cable, we have the opportunity to move it far enough away from areas potentially exposed to the sun, finding a good cool place in the shade. Of course, however you connect it, it is better to remove the cover.

If the temperature continues to rise, better without Android Auto

Even using Android Auto without cables and having the phone in a place away from the sun and moderately cool, in the long run it has ended up heating up. In that case I have the option of restrict activity and set priorities in Android AutoNo more listening to streaming music, I deactivate notifications and on occasions I have even chosen to download maps from Google Maps to reduce the download of data. The idea in the end is to minimize data transfer internet – car – telephone.

And even so, on days of extreme heat, not even these practices are going to prevent the mobile from heating up. It should be noted that a phone that overheats is dangerous: yes, it will first work slower than normal, it can freeze and even turn off, but that is still protection methods to avoid deterioration.

So if the phone keeps overheating, there is no choice but to turn off Android Autoat least for a while or until the temperature drops.

Android 11 tries a new way to save even more battery: suspend cached apps

The latest version of Android 11 debuts a way to improve the battery in the background: now you can cancel the execution of cached applications. In this way the useful life is extended after a charge, although with a drawback: use of multitasking worsens.

Android always had the sambenito of high power consumption, not in vain it had to run applications in a virtual machine. Over the years Google significantly improved the runtime environmentIt also included improvements for background use and even an intelligent energy saving system (Adaptive Battery). Despite the satisfactory evolution, there is always room to further reduce consumption, a point on which the latest Android 11 novelty affects.

Battery improvement, somewhat slower multitasking

Android’s application execution system caches unused applications so that user can switch to them quickly in case you are using multitasking. These cached apps continue to access the processor cycles and also the other components, such as modems, to use the communication data. This implies an additional energy expenditure since, in theory, the user does not need that application that is kept in cache.

Google began testing a system of ‘freezing’ cached applications with the beta 2 of Android 11, a system that is starting to go live in tests for some users of the stable version. This is confirmed by XDA Developers (via @MishaalRahman), we have not yet appeared on the Google Pixel.

As detailed by XDA Developers, the new system freezes the applications that are in the device’s cache to prevent them from working while not in use. This saves battery, you can also help keep mobile data consumption at bay. All with a trade-off: since the cached apps are frozen, in the event that the user wants to return to them, Android 11 will have to put them back into operation, an action that involves a some delay in reactivating the app. Of course, it will always be less than loading the application from scratch since, likewise, it is kept in cache no matter how long it is suspended.

This new suspension system for cached apps slows down the switching between apps, with the consequent effect on multitasking

The new feature of Android 11, named as’Suspend the execution of cached applications‘, has appeared in tests within the developer options of some users. By default it is adjusted according to the device: in this way it is the system that is in charge of canceling the execution. We will see if it really manages to scratch a few mAh to energy consumption.

Snapdragon G3x Gen 2, G2 and G1: features and specifications of the new processors for Android consoles

Almost two years ago, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 alongside a reference device made by Razer. We were able to test it in Hawaii and, basically, it was a portable console that allowed us to demonstrate the benefits of this processor created for this type of device.

Later, and already in the form of a commercial product, we were able to test the Razer Edge and, now, Qualcomm has presented the new generation of its SoC focused on video games. In addition, it is accompanied by two other proposals for machines with different capacities. Next, we tell you all the details of the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2, the Snapdragon G2 and the Snapdragon G1.

From the most extreme power to streaming-based consoles

Given the characteristics, we are going to delve a little into each of the processors. The most striking is obviously the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2. It is the one that is focused on machines for enthusiasts and, according to Qualcomm, the GPU is 30% faster than the previous generation. It is expected to be on par with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but it is too early to tell.

Qualcomm has published a series of features that accompany this SoC in a reference device and we can verify that it is a device created to enjoy video games to the fullest. It has 12 GB LPDDR5X at 4.2 GHza storage of 256 GB UFS 4.0 and active dissipation of 15 W.

On the other hand, the Snapdragon G2 is a SoC built for a machine capable of running native games No problem, but not to the last. The company has not published concrete details about this SoC, but at XDA Developers we can read that it would be on par with a Snapdragon 778G.

Finally there is the Snapdragon G1. There are no specific details about the SoC either, but this processor is focused on streaming gaming. Hopefully it will be very efficient both on power to maximize battery life and on latency.

When we have concrete details such as processor frequency and other data, we will update the article.
