23 Years Later – How’s the Original Power Rangers Cast?

In 1993, the series “power Rangers“, which became a great success and marked a whole generation of young viewers, even turning it into a fever here in Brazil. The original series ran for three years, between 1993 and 1995, and spawned two feature films (none of them with the full original cast) and recently announced one. reboot to theaters, scheduled to premiere in 2017 and reintroducing the characters from the original series to the new generation. To celebrate this defining moment (any doubt that the audience of this new film will be mostly nostalgic big guys?), we bring here how they are and what the actors of the classic series are doing. It’s time to morph!

Austin St. John / Red Ranger (Jason)

Now 41 years old, Jason Geiger (his real name) had his first experience on TV as the Red Ranger, at just 17 years old. He has been fighting martial arts since the age of five and is fluent in four different languages (English, Spanish, Italian and Korean). He left the series in season two over a salary dispute with Saban, but returned in season four of the Power Rangers Zeo series as the Golden Ranger. Until 2006 he made some sporadic appearances on the series, but his acting career never really took off and to help, he was mistaken for a long time as a gay actor. Currently, he continues to save lives, but as a paramedic firefighter, in addition to being a martial arts instructor in gyms in the United States. In addition, it is trying to make a return to the cinematographic world, with independent films like “Survival’s End” (2015) and the project “The Order” (2016), which brings together several former actors from the Power Rangers series, including David Youst and Walter Jones (but the film has nothing to do with Power Rangers and shows a group of vigilantes trained in martial arts).

David Youst / Blue Ranger (Billy)

David was on the show for nearly four full seasons and was featured in the franchise’s first movie. He was considered the smartest of the Rangers and with his inventions like the morph-communicator and the teleporter, Billy stood out from the crowd. After leaving the series, he had no significant participation on TV and in 2010 revealed to be homosexual – according to him, one of the reasons for leaving the series, because of prejudice. Today he is 47 years old.

Walter Jones / Black Ranger (Zack)

At 45, Zack’s interpreter looks like he hasn’t aged at all. He dropped out of the series in season two, along with Austin and the bigger pay dispute, but returned in season seven in Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy (1999), but not as Zack, but acting as one of the monsters. He did some cameos in movies and series (such as Buffy The Vampire Slayer) and voiced the main character of the 2003 game “Freedom Fighter”.

Thuy Trang / Yellow Ranger (Trini)

Of Vietnamese origin, the first Yellow Ranger also came out in the second season of the series along with the Red and Black Rangers. She ended up acting as one of the main villains in the 1996 movie “The Crow: City of Angels”. Unfortunately, in 2001 the car in which Thuy was traveling as a passenger suddenly lost control, resulting in a fatal accident for her at the age of 27. .

Amy Jo Johnson / Ranger Rosa (Kimberly)

The darling and dream of many kids from the 90s like the eternal Kimberly, gymnast Amy Jo Johnson participated until midway through the third season (1995) and even reprized her role in the second movie “Turbo: Power Rangers 2”. In 1998, she joined the acclaimed series “Felicity”, where she played the leading role of music student Julie Emrick, participating in the four seasons of the series. She participated in some series, such as “The Division” (2003), “Flashpoint” (2008) and “Covert Affairs” (2014) and small films (including as a director and screenwriter). In 2001 he started a folk music career and to date he has released three albums. In 2015 he released the movie “The Space Between”, where he directed, wrote and starred. In 2014 she made headlines for something unusual: she took her guitar and dressed as Ranger Rosa (pictured above), played on the streets of Toronto, Canada (where she lives), to celebrate fundraising for her movie (she even had batman participation dropping Hadouken!). This is a very busy young lady, today she is 45 years old.

Jason David Frank / Green/White Ranger (Tommy)

The crowd’s favorite, the rebel Ranger Verde (later White, Red and Black), was played by David Frank at the age of 19 – at that time already a practitioner of martial arts. He participated in the series from 1993 to 1997, but ended up returning in 2002/04 in Power Rangers: Wild Force and Dino Thunder. In 2009 he started a career as an MMA fighter (he only fought in 2010, he won all five fights he participated in) and is a fan of fighter Anderson Silva. Today he teaches martial arts at his own gym, at 42 years old. In 2014 he had a guest appearance reprising his role as Green Ranger in “Power Rangers: Super Megaforce” (pictured above). Arguably the most popular Actor/Ranger of the entire series.

Interestingly, one of his biggest foes in life is former classmate Austin St John, the original Red Ranger. According to Frank, Austin used to brag about his abilities as a martial fighter and sometimes irritated him with mocking and arrogant remarks about his feats in the ring. “I don’t like arrogant , and Austin is nothing but an arrogant ,” he said, challenging the former actor to an MMA fight to prove who’s the best fighter. Such statements were not commented on by Saint-John.

Another famous foe of his is actor Jean Claude Van Damme. In 2010, after a victory in MMA, Ranger Verde challenged the star Van Damme to a fight in the ring, as a result of a heartache between them: in 1995, during the premiere of the movie Mighty Morphing Power Rangers, he had the opportunity to meet the star himself (one of his dreams, as Van Damme was his childhood hero), but was allegedly “snubbed” by him. Unfortunately, this epic fight never happened (but who knows in the future…).

Honorable Mention: Bulk and Skull

The two bumblings who studied in the same class as our Power Rangers heroes, with Bulk being the smart fat guy of the duo and Skull being a totally blind, clueless skinny.
