Cities Skylines 2 Export goods: Sell goods

How can you actually export the produced and mined goods such as wood, wheat or even coal and oil in the new Cities Skylines 2? Where can you sell the goods and make money from them? In the new Cities Skylines 2, in addition to the industrial zones, you can now also build special industrial specializations and thus produce goods yourself. The goods produced not only reduce imports and you spend less money, but you can also export the surplus, but how does that actually work?

Sell goods and export goods

In addition to exporting by truck, the goods can also be exported by train, ship and plane.

  • Freight train terminus and freight trains: For export on the rails, in addition to the rail connections, you also need a freight train terminus for $150,000 and a train depot for another $150,000. The freight station and the train depot are then connected to the tracks and these lead to the map exit (double arrow on the edge of the map). In order for the freight trains to run and export goods, you now have to create freight train routes using the tool of the same name.
  • Cargo port and container ships: For exports via water you need a cargo port for $490,000. The cargo port is then placed in a free spot on the water and connects the port to international waters via sea routes. You can now create routes using the freight ship route tool and, similar to freight trains, you have to connect them to the map exit (double arrow in the water at the edge of the map). The cargo port also has a train terminal, so goods can also be delivered to the port by freight train.
  • Build an airport and export goods by plane: If you are a little more advanced, you can later build an airport and a huge international airport. You can then build freight terminals at the airports and export goods through them. Here, too, you have to create freight aircraft routes and connect them using the double arrow on the edge of the map.

By the way, in Cities Skylines 2 you can also export excess electricity and earn money with it. The same applies to water, which can also be exported.

Note: In the current version of Cities Skylines 2, exporting goods by sea and ship as well as by plane does not seem to work properly (or only sometimes?). Our goods are piling up in the ports and at the freight terminal. Some players are currently having the problem with “exporting goods” in Cities Skylines 2, if you look at the linked Reddit thread about it. We can only hope that the problem with the export of goods will be resolved promptly. As soon as there is news about this, we will add the information here.

Show goods export

Only goods that are produced with a surplus are exported. Under the “City Economy” you can look at the individual materials and their production under the “Production” tab. If there is a surplus, the export takes place automatically. The deficit is offset by imports.

Tip: In Cities Skylines 2 you can achieve a positive balance early in the game and earn money.
