Criminal fire in Chibougamau: the Brian Paré file thickens

The bill is getting bigger for the Chibougamau man arrested last week in connection with arson: he now faces 11 charges.

Brian Paré, a 37-year-old man, is suspected of starting arson attacks in the summer of 2023 during and after the forest fire period. He was arrested by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) last Thursday.

During his appearance as part of the release hearing at the Roberval courthouse, no less than nine new charges were added.

Three fires on the same day

Among these, the suspect is now formally accused of public nuisance for the sum of the acts he allegedly committed between May 31 and September 5.

While he was already facing charges of arson for events that occurred on May 31, in Chapais and elsewhere. On July 18, near Chibougamau, other similar charges were added for July 5 and 8 and September 1 and 5.

Three times rather than one, it would also have been the cause of fires on June 1, one near Chapais and two others in the Chibougamau area.

More details will follow.
