Merging OBS videos: Is it possible?

If you stream with OBS (Open Broadcast Software) and also create gameplay recordings, the videos folder will gradually fill up with gameplay recordings. If you stop and restart the recording every now and then, sooner or later the question arises: can you also combine videos with OBS? Can you join two videos together in OBS and create a video from them?

Merge videos in OBS?

Even though OBS has numerous functions and can be expanded with plugins, at least with the current OBS version you cannot cut or merge videos. Once you start and end the recording, you cannot directly attach another recording to the recording and combine it into a video. However, to combine two separate gameplay recordings and make a video out of them, you can use any conventional video editing program. In addition to paid video editing programs, there are also free tools such as the popular video editor Avidemux. In Avidemux you can upload two or more videos in no time and then combine them into one video. The video editor supports all common video formats such as AVI, MP4 and MKV, so you can edit the OBS recordings directly.

Since the Open Broadcast software is constantly being developed and new updates with new features are regularly released, it could of course be possible that in the future you will be able to cut, edit and then probably combine videos directly in OBS. If anything has changed on the topic in the meantime, we would be happy to receive a brief note in the comments.

Tip: You can change the storage location for the recordings in OBS and switch them to a different path or folder.
