Microsoft announces its largest investment in Spain since it arrived in our country: 1,950 million between now and 2025


An unprecedented move by the company led by Satya Nadella: Microsoft has just announced its largest investment in Spain since His arrival in our country 37 years ago.

With the commitment to disburse 2.1 billion dollars (approximately 1.95 billion euros) Between now and next year, the technology giant not only seeks to strengthen its presence in Spanish territory, but also to promote the digital transformation of our country through AI and cybersecurity.

Brad Smith, president of Microsoft, shared with President Sánchez during a meeting in Moncloa the details of this ambitious plan that promises quadruple current investment levels of the company in Spain.

The core of investment: in the cloud

The investment will focus on the development and expansion of key infrastructure, such as the opening of a new ‘Data Center Cloud Region’ in the Community of Madrid and the construction of a Data Center campus in Aragon.

These facilities will not only enhance Microsoft’s cloud services offering, but also will guarantee data sovereignty for European companies and public entities.

Microsoft Data Centers in Spain promise to be a catalyst for economic growth, with an estimated impact of 8.4 billion euros on national GDP and the creation of approximately 69,000 jobs between 2026 and 2030, according to an IDC analysis.

Microsoft-Government collaboration around AI and cybersecurity

The collaboration between Microsoft and the Spanish Government extends beyond physical infrastructure: Microsoft and Moncloa have also sealed a collaboration framework agreement for the

“application of responsible AI in improving services to citizens, promoting innovation based on AI, as well as reinforcing national cybersecurity and the cyber resilience of Spanish companies, public organizations and critical infrastructures.”

AI in Admin.: Firstly, this translates into trying to extend the use of artificial intelligence in Public Administration in order to modernize administrative processes: this will mean implementing Generative AI and specialized training plans for public employees.

In addition, Microsoft will share its responsible AI design standards with the Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence (AESIA) located in La Coruña.

Collaboration against cyber attacks: Likewise, the technology company and the National Cryptological Center of the National Intelligence Center (CNI-CCN) will jointly explore the improvement of early warning and response mechanisms to computer security incidents in the AA.PP..

In this same field, Microsoft will collaborate with the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE), offering access to telemetry and global information on potential threats and cyberattacks that may affect Spanish companies and public administrations.
