Lorcana is preparing to unveil its season 3, “Les Terres d’Encres”, on February 23. Thanks to Campustech I was able to preview the two starter decks. Thanks to Ivan and Fred!
Lorcana, the Disney TCG
Quick history
Since September (roughly) 2023, we have had the opportunity to play the fabulous Disney TCG, distributed by Ravensburger : Lorcana. The first season was an international hit and did not fail to be a victim of its success, resulting in numerous stock shortages almost everywhere.
Season 2 “Rise of the Floodborn“, arriving in mid-November 2023 (the 17th), was much more accessible in terms of products. It brought its share of new features and complements season 1 well. The first two seasons contained 204 cards each (excluding enchanted) to their roster, and it seems that season 3 will follow the same pattern.
Season 3 is titled “The Lands of Inks” and it already promises to be significant in terms of adding strategic cards, but above all, thanks to the new location mechanics!
101 Dalmatians and Peter Pan VS Moana and Scrooge
The two base decks will be Amber/Emerald vs Ruby/Sapphire. We were able to try both and it’s not bad for an appetizer. Before listing the two decks, I will give you the positive and negative points, in my opinion, of these two decks:
Good points
- The cards are mostly interesting.
- We accentuate the Object meta, especially with Ruby/Sapphire
- Double effect cards
- Places
- Interaction with places
- New characters!
Negative points
- Still S1 and S2 cards to fill in, too bad there isn’t full S3 in the decks in my opinion…
- Locations have no effect
- Packaging with opening on the side, frankly not practical!
Beyond the + and -, the decks are fun to play, they take the hand well and guide the player to follow a certain strategy to adopt. For Amber/Emerald it will be a question of boost, control (thank you Emerald), ease of gaining Lore points and predicting the draw thanks to the “Regard” abilities.
For the Ruby/Sapphire we will be more on agro, combo (thank you Ruby), death rattle and lore gain, and obviously good control of the draw thanks to the game Sapphire notably.
The two compete well, a few cards to manage the Objects of the Amber/Emerald for the Ruby/Sapphiresome cards to manage the agro of Ruby/Sapphire For Amber/Emerald… In short, a good salad of cards that are pretty cool to play. A bit of a shame that the locations presented in the starter decks have no effect!

Gear point
At the material level, Ravensburger delights us once again with colorful packaging (especially mustard, it must be admitted), the starter box is foil, the new damage/lore tokens match the pre-color dominant of the items, that is to say a kind of yellow. Beautiful material once again.
The rules points have been updated to include locations, and everything you need to know about them. In short, another great season awaits us, looking forward to being able to take full advantage of it!
