If you are an Orange customer in Spain and you are having problems, it is not a matter of your installation. And in recent hours, numerous incidents have been reported among the operator’s clients, leaving many of them without Internet access. And if the suspicions are right, it doesn’t seem like an easy problem to solve.
And, as Broadband points out, Orange would have suffered an attack. Specifically, Orange’s RIPE NCC account would have been hijacked and, hence, the Internet access problems.
What is happening with Orange Spain
The acronym RIPE NCC corresponds to Réseau IP Européens Network Coordination Center and it is a vital organization for the management of IP addresses and, wow, the coordination of Internet infrastructure in Europe, the Middle East and part of Central Asia.
Although there are many operators, they are not the ones that directly control the Internet and it is organizations like RIPE NCC that manage users around the planet. There are only five of these organizations, to give you an idea of their magnitude.
That being said, a user named Ms_Snow_OwO has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Orange account and its kidnapping. She has done it in X with a message that is accompanied by a few screenshots.
Almost making fun of Orange Spainthe alleged hacker has commented that he has “fixed” the company’s RIPE security administrator account and that, if they want the new access credentials, they can send him a message.
This was hours before Down Detector indicated the fall of the Orange network in Spain and users began to express their anger with the whole matter.
Orange has not issued any statement throughout the afternoon, limiting itself to responding to some users who were complaining about X, but at 6:59 p.m. Spanish time, the account shared the following publication:
This is a message set to alert users and They affirm that service will be restored shortly for all customers. From SamaGame, we have contacted the company and we will update as soon as we have more information.
