PS5 sound distorted: fix sound bug

Why is that? Sound on the PS5 is so distorted? What can you do if the sound on the television is distorted is and how can it be done? Fix sound bug on PlayStation 5? The new PS5 has been on the market for a few months now and continues to be very popular. The Sony console has comparatively few problems compared to other console releases and, apart from minor problems with the fan, actually runs very well and stably. Like every other console, the PlayStation 5 is not completely spared from minor technical problems and there have been reports of distorted sound from time to time lately. In this guide we show what was wrong with us and how we were able to solve the problem.

Sound distorted on the PlayStation 5: what to do?

If the sound on the PS5 is distorted, there can be a variety of reasons. Before you spend a lot of time looking for a cause, you should first try/check a few things.

  • Restart the console
  • Check the cables to the television/receiver/system
  • Install all available game and firmware updates

If the problems with the distorted sound continue after this, then it could possibly be due to an incorrect setting.

Sound distorted due to incorrect audio setting

The reason for the distorted sound was probably the wrong audio setting on the television or the PS5. In the television settings of Smart TVs from manufacturers such as LG, you can set the HDMI input audio format under the advanced sound settings and, among other things, switch from “Bitstream” to “(Linear) PCM”. After we did this, the PS5’s sound was noticeably better and no longer as distorted as before. Alternatively, depending on the setup, you can also switch from “Linear PCM” to “Bitstream” directly in the system settings of the PlayStation 5 under “Sound” and “Audio Output” (by the way, this is not only possible via the PS5 settings, but also in the media player). app when playing movies).

In our case, the sound problem only occurred with the sound on the television and NOT with the sound via the headset.
