If you use the Instagram app regularly, some people will probably follow your story. When you like a story, the question often arises, how can you actually share the story? Can you post other people’s stories in your own story and if so, how does it work exactly? If you want to share an Instagram story, you simply have to open it and tap the “Add post to your story” button. You can then upload the same story image or videos to your own story and share it with your subscribers. In this context, the question often arises: why can’t I share the story and how can I allow it?
Instagram Story sharing doesn’t work
If you can’t share an Instagram story, there’s usually a simple reason. On the one hand, you can currently only share stories from others in which you have been tagged or linked. If there is no link, the “Post post to your story” button will not be displayed.
But there are two other reasons why sharing a story doesn’t work.
- The person has a private profile: Currently, stories can only be shared by people who have a public profile. If the profile is private, you cannot share the post even if you are linked to it.
- The person uses a music sticker: if a music sticker is included on the linked story, then the story cannot be shared.
Repost story with music?
As mentioned above, sharing an Instagram story will not work if there is a music sticker inserted on it. This applies at least to the “official” way you can share a story. Of course, you can simply film the stories and then upload them again yourself, which is comparable to a repost. However, you should pay attention to copyright law and clarify beforehand whether the creator agrees to it.
