The Amazfit GTR and GTS are now able to detect that you are taking a nap

Amazfit smart watches, specifically the GTR and GTS models are updating with a new mode that allows to record naps. Until now, the sleep analysis of these watches was limited to the usual bedtime, recording the entire period.

With the latest firmware update this changes, and naps come to Amazfit watches. We are going to tell you what is necessary for them to activate and the difference with the normal sleep mode.

Your Amazfit will know when you take a nap

One of the shortcomings of many smart watches is that they only record sleep periods when we sleep for several hours. If we want to take a nap for a few minutes, this period is not recorded. With the latest firmware update for the GTS and GTR from Amazfit, the nap record arrives.

[SOLVED] : How to save battery on Amazfit GTS


The Amazfit GTS is a popular smartwatch in its segment with a sleek design and an impressive display. However, it comes with a battery life of just 14 days, which in real life might only last around a few days. Additionally, many people have experienced battery drain issues on the GTS which should not be the case with ideal settings. This article gives some practical tips to help you save battery on your Huami Amazfit GTS smart watch.

Tips for saving battery on Huami Amazfit GTS smart watch

For starters, the Amazfit GTS comes with a 220mAh lithium-ion battery. The same is supposed to last up to 14 days, provided the features are used conservatively. Battery life will decrease dramatically with more frequent heart rate monitoring, more exercise, and more notifications and vibrations.

I have been using the watch for a few months now, and here is what I do to save battery life and get the most out of my Amazfit GTS.

1. Adjust the screen brightness

The Amazfit GTS comes with a fairly chunky 1.65-inch screen, which is pretty crisp at 341ppi. While the screen looks really punchy and vibrant in real life, it’s also the main culprit behind battery drain.

So check the brightness of your watch screen: the lower the brightness, the longer the battery life will be. You can manually change the brightness by swiping down on the home screen of the watch, tapping on the sun icon and using the slider, or leaving it handled by auto brightness.

2. Switch off always-on display

Amazfit GTS also comes with the AOD function (always on display) which displays basic information like time, date and steps in an analog / digital dial when the watch is locked.

While it’s really handy to have the time visible without having to touch the watch, it does come with one major downside – draining battery life.

To turn off always-on display on Amazfit GTS:

  • Wake up your watch.
  • Swipe up on the home screen.
  • Scroll down and click Settings> Always-on display> Activate status.

  • 3. Use a dark colored dial

    Amazfit GTS uses an OLED display, which means the pixels do not light up while producing black colors. So, you can save a good deal of battery life by using a black colored dial or by avoiding shiny and colorful watch faces.

    The default watch face is quite efficient. Anyway, you can also check out other watch faces on the Amazfit Zepp app at Profile> Amazfit GTS> Watch face settings.

    4. Disable “Discoverable” and “Raise wrist to view info”.

    Discoverable mode allows your watch to be visible to nearby devices. This feature is said to affect the battery and can be turned off to extend endurance. Open the Zepp app, tap Profile at the bottom right, click on Amazfit GTS> Discoverable and deactivate the function.

    Likewise, the wrist lift feature to display information uses a fair amount of juice as your screen lights up frequently throughout the day. If you don’t need it, turn it off in the Zepp app under Profile> Amazfit GTS> Lift wrist to see information.

    5. Check the detection method

    In native mode, the Amazfit GTS offers three methods of heart rate detection. They can be activated in the Amazfit Zepp app under Profile> Amazfit GTS> Heart rate detection.

  • Automatic heart rate detection: Measures heart rate every minute while wearing the watch (normal impact on battery).
  • Sleep assistant: Helps to get more accurate sleep data (normal impact on battery).
  • Automatic heart rate detection and sleep assistant detection: Activates continuous heart rate monitoring and gets more accurate sleep data (big impact on battery).
  • From now on, I won’t ask you to turn off detection as this is an essential fitness feature and probably one of the reasons you bought the watch in the first place.

    If you need sleep monitoring, leave it at “Sleep Assistant”. Or, if you don’t wear your watch while you sleep, just leave it at “Auto Heart Rate Detection”. Do you need continuous monitoring in addition to precise sleep tracking? Select the third option.

    Don’t need detection features at all? Just turn it off. Likewise, you can change the frequency of detection which again has an influence on the overall autonomy of your battery.

    6. Disable notifications

    Notifications light up your watch screen while the vibrations that occur use the vibration motor, which consumes battery again. So if you don’t check the notifications on your watch, you better turn off the feature. You can also enable DND on your watch, which will stop sending alerts.

    Although the Chinese tracker only carries a 220 mAh battery, the latter is able to allow it without worries more than a week of use. During our tests, a full charge will have ensured approximately ten days of autonomy.

    Of course, it all depends on your habits and settings. By default, the heart rate sensor takes one reading per minute. The screen is set to turn on when you lift your wrist and the brightness is managed automatically. If you are not too greedy on notifications and exercises with the GPS, then you can decently last ten days or more.

    If you plan to go through the Always On mode of the dial and with several hours of exercise per day with the GPS, the time will be drastically reduced. But in absolute terms, the GTS will be more enduring than a watch under Wear OS or Tizen.

    Charging is in the usual average, around two hours. Amazfit offers a very light and space-saving magnetic dock, much more practical than the horrible failure of the Amazfit Verge. The good news is, you won’t have to use it every day!
