Fire TV: Clock as a screensaver – how it works

As soon as your Amazon Fire TV is not actively used for a while, the screen saver turns on. This also makes sense – because long static images from menus can damage the television through so-called burn-in effects (“burn-in”).

The screensaver for your Fire TV can be configured relatively freely: You can use the Alexa app and Amazon Photos to create your own compilation of images as a screensaver. These then run as a series of images on the unused TV screen until the sleep mode is set at some point.

If no time is displayed in your screensaver and you would like to use the inactive TV display as a time display, you can easily set this. SamaGame explains step by step how you can set the time and date on your Fire TV as a screen saver.

Clock as a screensaver on Fire TV

  1. 1

In the main menu of your Fire TV, click on the gear icon in the top bar on the far right to go to the settings.

  2. 2

In the settings you now select the option “Sounds and screen”.

  3. 3

In the subsequent menu, click on the “Screensaver” item.

  4. 4

If “Date and Time” is set to “Off” in the list, the default clock for the Fire TV screensaver is disabled. Click once on the menu item to activate the clock.

  5. 5

Now you can already see in the background: The screensaver with self-selected pictures is now also provided with a time and date display.

If you really just want to display a simple clock as a screen saver, there are various third-party apps such as the “Simple Clock for Fire TV”, which are also compatible with the Alexa voice remote control.

You should be aware that static displays of digital times in the middle of the screen do not protect the latter as sensibly as the Amazon Fire TV time display, which constantly changes its place in the image.
