Telegram welcomes stories: a moment of celebration for some and sadness for others. The latter, with special suffering because Telegram displays pending stories in a rather intrusive wayoccupying the entire top bar of the interface when we see our chats.

After updating Telegram to version 9.7.0, you may have gotten a surprise in the form of circles with the profile picture of one of your friends. Tapping on them opens the stories they have posted, just like in basically any app like Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, or WhatsApp.
The problem is that this is displayed at the top of the app and too distracting, even as you scroll through your chat list: it’s always visible. The good news is that you can hide them so they stop bothering you. The bad news is that you have to hide them by contact: there is still no option to hide them all in one fell swoop.
What you have to do is a long touch on the history circle and choose Hide Stories (u , when they translate it). Repeat this with each story that appears on Telegram and when there is no pending story, the top bar disappears.
The method is somewhat more manual than we would like, but taking into account that creating Telegram stories is for now a premium featureit is possible that not many of your contacts are creating them yet, so it should not be difficult for you to hide the stories from all of them as soon as they post something new.
Besides, you can continue to see their stories from the chat list itself, by tapping on their profile picture, as well as from their own chat. The only thing that changes when you hide your stories is that you won’t see them in the top bar.
