The Division 2 Hazard Protection: What does it mean?

If you look at the properties and bonuses of some equipment in The Division 2, you will often read something about +x percent hazard protection. Some players of The Division 2 will probably ask themselves, what is danger protection all about and what does it actually mean? What dangers does equipment with this property/bonus protect me from?

What does hazard protection mean in The Division 2?

If you have equipment equipped with hazard protection, this increases resistance to various status effects such as fire, shock and explosion damage. According to current information and our tests, this “only” increases the resistance to the status effect, but not the duration of how long the effect lasts. Of course, hazard protection does NOT make you immune to fire or explosion damage.

Does hazard protection have another effect in The Division 2? Does this protect against other dangers? If you know more, please post it in the comments.
