A fishmonger at the Victor Hugo market in Toulouse heard cries of pain as he opened his stall this Saturday at 5 a.m. He noticed that a young man had fallen into the ice machine filled with hot water which is used to melt the ice from the fishmongers’ stalls. The scaler called for help but the victim, aged around twenty, died quickly.

“He was at a festive evening but not in the same sector (as the Victor Hugo market), reports commissioner Jean-Noël Brua. And we know that there was a fight that he may have been involved in or at least been close to, but he entered the market alone. At this stage the investigation continues and all avenues remain open but that of the accident appears privileged.
The investigation will continue with the hearing of witnesses and the use of video surveillance available on the route taken by the victim before his death.
