Why are the messages displayed blue, purple or another color in the current version of the Instagram app? Can you change the color of direct messages (DM) on Instagram and if so, how does it work on Android or iOS (iPhone)? In the last few days, one or two Instagram users who often send direct messages and chat with their friends via Instagram Direct may have asked something similar. With one of the last updates, the color of the speech bubbles in the messages has changed and, depending on the smartphone and whether dark mode is activated or not, the speech bubble is displayed colorfully or in a very light blue or purple. Some people may ask themselves the same question that we asked ourselves after the change, how can you change the color of Instagram messages? Is there any way to restore or change the old color?
Changing Instagram message color: Is that possible?
According to our research, there is currently no setting option in the official Instagram app regarding the color of the Instagram messages or speech bubbles. Depending on the smartphone, you can sometimes restore the old color (i.e. the gray instead of the blue background) by deactivating dark mode.
Since some users are bothered by the change, it will hopefully only be a matter of time before you can change the color of messages in the Instagram app or simply restore the old gray speech bubbles. At the moment it also seems as if Instagram is testing the change with some users first. While for some users the message bubbles are blue, for other users they are displayed in purple and sometimes, as usual, in gray.
As soon as there is new information on the topic, we will of course add it here in the article.
