SEC_ERROR_BAD_SIGNATURE in Firefox – How to fix the error?.

Firefox is one of the most common browsers. Constant updates, plus security improvements, make it faster and more stable. Despite this, users continue to encounter errors. One of them is the secure connection error SEC_ERROR_BAD_SIGNATURE, which only occurs in Firefox, the same resource opens without problems in other browsers. The problem usually occurs after installing an extension or due to incorrect network settings.

Causes of the error

An error message with the code SEC_ERROR_BAD_SIGNATURE is unlikely to appear when visiting dubious sites, rather it may prevent you from connecting to resources like Facebook and the like. The problem can arise for the following reasons:

  • Access is blocked by third-party antivirus or firewalls. These protection programs often apply policies on a secure connection that can restrict access to some websites.
  • An extension has been installed that prevents certificates from working.
  • The browser’s network settings are incorrect. The error occurs more frequently if a proxy server is used.
  • Disable antivirus

When the SEC_ERROR_BAD_SIGNATURE message appears, disable your antivirus software first. In most cases, antivirus software will impose restrictions when establishing a secure connection.

If disabling protection can resolve the issue, add Firefox to the exclusion list.

    Boot in safe mode

The SEC_ERROR_BAD_SIGNATURE message may appear after installing the extensions. There are cases where they prevent you from making a secure connection and getting certificates. To check, run Firefox in safe mode. The browser will start with the default values and no extensions. If you manage to open the page, disable all plugins one by one until you find the culprit.

Click on the menu icon and then go to Help – Restart without plugins.

After the reboot, it will boot into safe mode. Try to open the problem page.

    Change network settings

If you still get an error, check your network settings. If your home network settings do not use a proxy to connect to the Internet, it must be disabled in Firefox settings.

Pull down the menu and go to Settings.

In the Basic section, scroll down to Network Settings and click “Configure.”

Check the “No proxy” option and apply the changes with “OK”.

After the reboot, check if the login is blocked.
