If you have built a house in The Sims 4 and equipped it with furniture and other equipment, then both the water and power supplies are automatically installed. Even though on most properties you don’t have to worry about the supply of water and electricity, there is one exception and these are the areas with the property feature or the property challenge “Off the grid”. As the name suggests, the areas are not connected to electricity or water supplies. However, that doesn’t mean that you have to do without electronic devices or the shower and bathroom, because you can produce and generate both water and electricity yourself.
Produce and sell electricity
To produce electricity in The Sims 4, you need a solar panel, a wind turbine or even a home generator. The solar panels and the wind turbine are available as variants for on the ground and on the roof. After setting up the solar panels or wind turbine, the house will be supplied with electricity shortly afterwards. By the way, you can not only supply areas off the grid with electricity, but you can also produce electricity yourself in a “normal” area. In the latter case, the question often arises as to why producing your own electricity doesn’t actually reduce electricity costs? Can the electricity be stored or sold?
The short answer is, yes, it works. In Sims 4 you can sell the electricity produced and earn money. Alternatively, you can also store the electricity and it works like this.
- Load the save game in The Sims 4 and click on the mailbox.
- Under “Show billing information” you can now see the property and electricity/water costs. You can also have two fields on the right for “Electricity” and “Water”, which default to “Sell”.
- You can use the “rate of change” to see what you earn by selling electricity or what you have to pay extra if you store the electricity. The stored electricity can be sold immediately using the “Sell Now” button.
