The latest free hit from the Epic Games Store is here: get Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy for free

Today is the last day in which the Christmas promotion of the Epic Games Store remains active, but the digital store has chosen to say goodbye to the holidays in style. It is common for the company to give away a real hit around these times and in 2024 that line will be maintained.

This time it’s the turn of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the great Eidos-Montréal title that we can redeem right now. Unlike previous works, here we have plenty of time to save it in our library, as it will remain available for zero euros until next January 11. Of course, once it is ours, no one can take it away from us.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

2021 passed without pain or glory, but the truth is that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy It is a very vindictive work. packed with action and humor. These are the hallmarks of the most impossible group of superheroes in The House of Ideas, although we can only control the main leader.

Star-Lord will be at our complete disposal to sail through the cosmos while we shoot against all types of enemies and creatures. Elemental blasters, jet boot kicks and team combos will be the usual tone in a story that will reflect the decisions we make in unexpected ways.

James Gunn is going to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 directing

James Gunn may still direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Castle Crashers is probably coming to PS4 and Switch and the first info about the new No Man’s Sky update is here. That and more in this Weekend Watch!

Jaaaaa, have a nice weekend everyone! To get through these wonderful days off, a new Weekend Watch is now waiting for you. Or maybe you have to work, and this Weekend Watch will make it all a bit more bearable. Anyway, here we go!

James Gunn is going to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 directing

What a surprise: after Disney and Marvel let Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn go over some old controversial tweets (posted a decade ago), he has now been hired for the third film in the franchise!

Gunn was fired last year after a number of controversial tweets from him surfaced. Although the tweets were absolutely unacceptable, firing the director also caused quite a stir. Some actors from the film series even indicated that they no longer want to work on the third film without Gunn.

It is now clear that behind the scenes Disney boss Alan Horn and Gunn have had a number of meetings. Since Gunn has publicly apologized and has not been ugly about Disney, he can now get back to work. Incidentally, Gunn has now also taken on the direction of the sequel to DC film Suicide Squad 2. That work comes first, so Gunn will only start working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Castle Crashers is likely to be coming to Switch and PS4

It seems that classic indie game Castle Crashers is coming to both PlayStation 4 and Switch. Developer The Behemoth has posted two tweets in recent days showing that. One tweet features four Switch Joy-Cons in the colors of the Castle Crashers characters, and the other tweet features DualShock 4 controllers in those colors. The announcement must take place on Tuesday.

Castle Crashers was one of the first major indie games on consoles when it hit the Xbox 360 years ago. In the game, up to four people can explore two-dimensional levels together and take on all kinds of enemies in a cartoonish-looking world. The game has also been playable on PC and Xbox One for quite some time now.

New No Man’s Sky Update is called Beyond

Hello Games just keeps working on No Man’s Sky. In the summer of this year, there will be three updates in one big package, called Beyond. There is not much info about the update yet, but Sean Murray says the studio has been working on three updates and has decided to merge them to release something with more impact.

What we do know is that one of those three updates is ‘No Man’s Sky Online’. Although precise details are lacking, this should motivate players to meet each other in the vast world of the game. This mode would contain recognizable online elements, but not represent straightforward MMO. In addition, many gamers also hope that VR will be supported, but that has not yet been confirmed.

Castlevania: Harmony of Despair is backwards compatible on Xbox One

Castlevania: Harmony of Despair is now available to play on Xbox One. If you already have the game on the Xbox 360, you can simply download it again on the Xbox One, otherwise you can buy it from the Xbox Store.

Harmony of Despair appeared in 2010 as part of the Summer of Arcade, and was released on PlayStation 3 a year later. It’s a fairly unique Castlevania game: you still go through 2D levels, but in this case six players do it online at the same time, with the aim of completing a level as quickly as possible. The levels are based on old Castlevania games.

Gameplay of the new game from Chucklefish

Chucklefish (known from Stardew Valley, among others) is not only a developer but also a publisher, and later this year the company will also release the new game from Robotality (developer of Halfway), called Pathway.

Pathway is based on franchises such as Indiana Jones: in the game you are in charge of a team of explorers and you explore a procedurally generated map with all kinds of exciting elements. There are, among other things, ___s, zombies and, above all, many cool adventures.

The game is coming to PC sometime later this year, check out some gameplay below.

Gearbox hints at yet another game reveal

Gearbox Software is busy with it. At the end of this month they have a presentation at PAX East and this week the developer hints at various game revelations during that show. Previously, hints seemed to be dropped to Borderlands 3 and a Switch version of Borderlands 2, as well as a still unknown game.

And now Gearbox hints again at a new game reveal. A game where the title may contain the punctuation mark ‘&’. That’s right … we just wait and see!

New levels Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker now available

Do you have Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for the Switch and are you eager for new levels? Then the Guard has good news, because the expansion is now available! For 5.99 euros you will receive eighteen new challenges and five completely new levels.

The game is well supported by NIntendo. Earlier, a free update was released that made all levels suitable for co-op. The new DLC is only for the Switch version; if you have the game on Wii U or 3DS, you’re out of luck!

The Sopranos movie will be released in September 2020

Since we also started the Weekendwacht with film news, we also end it with it. The upcoming prequel film based on the classic HBO series The Sopranos will be released in September 2020, it has now been announced. The film would first be called The Many Saints of Newark, but the name has since been changed to simply ‘Newark’.

If you don’t know yet, the film is set in the 60s, way before the series. Michael Gandolfini, son of the late James Gandolfini, who portrayed lead character Tony Soprano in an incredible way, will play a young version of Tony. De Wacht is very curious what this film will deliver. If it contains even a fraction of the quality of the series, that is worth a lot!

And with that, this Weekend Watch has officially come to an end. That is the verdict of the Guard, and you have to make do with that. Farewell!
