Sony explains why we can’t change our PSN nickname

Although Sony has been trying to respond to fans’ requests for some time by making various changes on many levels regarding these consoles, some still remain unanswered, such as the change in PSN nickname. Today, our colleagues fromIGN enjoy an interview with Shawn Laydenthe president of Sony Computer Entertainment America to discuss the issue and we will discover that the reason for the absence of this option is not due to a technical limitation, but indeed to a real choice by Sony.

To begin with, Layden explain that Sony is studying these questions as well as the possibility of removing trophies deemed unwanted, or even shameful for Trophy Hunters and that Sony would like to give you more control over your experience, your profile and your presence on its network. However, Sony adds that he doesn’t want you to be able to rot parts of Call of Duty or another game to return to it innocently a few hours later with a new nickname accompanied by a new avatar.

So Sony is looking for a way to allow us to change our name while not erasing what we might consider our gaming criminal record. The manufacturer is aware that 99% of players are not affected by these bad actions, but wishes to put in place a system which will avoid any excess allowing players to insult or ruin games at all costs and then to redeem their impunity by simply changing your nickname.

What do you think of Sony’s choice on your side?
