How does oil transport actually work in Anno 1800? How can I buy an oil tanker and use it to ship the oil produced? This is a question that will certainly concern one or two players of the new building strategy game sooner or later. Since we are probably not alone with this question, we have created a short guide to oil transport here and will show you how to load the oil onto a ship and transport it.
Anno 1800: Transporting oil with tankers
- Extracting oil: In order to be able to transport oil at all, you first need an oil well on your island and you can then extract the oil there. You then place an oil refinery near the oil well. You can build up to three oil drilling rigs across the building, one per oil well. You can only build the drilling rigs within a certain radius of the refinery, so you should build the building close to the oil wells.
- Transporting oil by train: In order to process and store the oil from the drilling rigs, you need an oil port. This must be connected to the oil refinery via rails. If necessary, you can expand the storage capacity for the black gold later by building additional oil depots.
- Build/Buy Oil Tanker: You can build an oil tanker in a steamship value. You can then load the oil tanker at the oil port and use it to transport the oil barrels. The best thing to do is set up an oil route (similar to a trade route) and you can easily transport the oil back and forth.
At first we were unable to load the oil tanker manually, although after a while a few oil barrels were visible on the ship. If you have the same problem and cannot transport the oil by oil tanker, then just set up an oil route. After that it worked for us without any problems and the oil could be shipped.
