Free games from the Epic Games Store: Get LOVE for free until January 25

The free game currently available on the Epic Games Store is LOVE, available as a free download until January 25.

“LOVE”, a platform game by Fred Wood, is known for its minimalist design and challenging gameplay. Released in 2008 and later improved as “Love+”, it features a unique art style with three colors per level. The game centers around a character navigating through 20 levels, with abilities such as jumping, moving, and setting checkpoints.

“LOVE” introduced a custom respawn system, allowing players to strategically place checkpoints. It includes different modes such as “Easy Mode”, “YOLO Mode” and “Speedrun Mode”. The game was followed by the sequels “LOVE 2: kuso” and “LOVE 3”. Its soundtrack by James Bennett adds to the game’s distinct retro feel. “LOVE” also includes a level editor allowing players to create custom levels.

Next Upcoming Free Game Revealed

Next week we receive Infinifactory, available for free from January 25 to February 1 on the Epic Games Store.

Infinifactory is a sandbox puzzle game created by Zachtronics, the creators of SpaceChem and Infiniminer. The latter may be familiar to you, as it has gained some prominence as an apparent influence on Minecraft.

In this game, players take on the role of an abducted human who is forced to build assembly lines to create products for alien overlords. Gameplay involves solving spatial puzzles by building and managing assembly lines to produce specific types of products. Players use conveyor belts, pushers, rotators and other tools to maneuver the blocks into the correct positions. Each level presents a unique challenge, forcing players to think creatively and optimize their factory layout.

The game is known for its open-ended solutions, allowing a high degree of creativity and replayability. It combines elements of engineering, programming and logic in a visually appealing and stimulating way.

Why Epic Games offers so many games

It’s natural to wonder why Epic Games continues to be so generous. The reason probably revolves around their main competitor in the world of gaming platforms: Steam.

Steam, operated by Valve, has around 130 million monthly active users. By comparison, Epic Games owns about half of that according to the latest figures. Epic’s main goal is likely to provide a solid alternative to Steam, make its platform more attractive to game developers, and thus prevent Valve’s platform from having undisputed dominance.

To achieve this, Epic recently launched the “Epic First Run” program. This initiative rewards developers who offer their PC game exclusively on the Epic Games Store for a certain period of time. As users, the rivalry with Steam is welcome – after all, competition tends to invigorate the market, as shown by Epic’s weekly free game deals.
