They are new characters in a completely different historical period but being the next game in the Prince of Persia saga, it is difficult not to ask the following question: is the story of The Lost Crown related to other episodes of the series such as the classic jordan mechner or the acclaimed trilogy of the Sands? The Ubisoft Montpellier team has chosen to create a completely original story, but that does not mean that there is no relationship, as its director confirmed in an interview with 3DJuegos.
“There are some connections but this game explores the ancient age of persia, we wanted to delve deeper into its mythology. So she feels more like a prequel of sorts,” comments Mounir Radi. Still, he insists, “there are elements of The Sands of Time or even Jordan Mechner’s original.”
That’s why he invites players of The Lost Crown to thoroughly explore the settings in search of those connections. “There are some cameos to offer a nod to our players. There are lots of secrets scattered around the map, but I don’t want to spoil any surprises. What I can tell you is that players will discover that there are nods to 2D and 3D games.

There was another unavoidable question. Have you seen Jordan Mechner this new Prince of Persia game? And the answer is yes. “He has played it. It is present in all progress of the game and we always show him how we progress”, explains a Mounir Radi exultant for having received the ‘approval’ of this video game legend. “When Jordan said ‘this is truly the design of a Prince of Persia game’ he was like hooray! So yes, he has seen it, but he is not involved in the development of The Lost Crown, ”he clarifies.

The Ubisoft creative was totally excited when talking about this relationship with Jordan Mechner, and took advantage of the moment to tell an anecdote. “It’s really exciting to work on Prince of Persia. Just a few days ago my wife said to me: ‘Do you realize that you are working on a game that you used to play as a child?’ And it’s a lot of fun, ”he says. “Obviously as a developer it is rare to work on the new episode of a series you have grown up with“. Does this cause you fear of pressure? “I wouldn’t say I’m scared, more like super excited.”
