This is what Payday 3 will look like when it is released in September.
As of this week we finally know more about Payday 3: The co-op stealth shooter, in which you and up to three friends rob banks, jewelers and other places, will be released in mid-September 2023.
Gameplay, which is immediately reminiscent of the enormously successful predecessor, was also shown for the first time in the following trailer:
If you are now thinking: Yes, awesome, that looks so good! – then we have really good news for you. Because the developers have published an FAQ on their website that gives hope for much, much better optics.
Payday 3: Unreal Engine 5 is firmly planned
On their website, the developers from Starbreeze Studios answer some of the most important questions about their upcoming game.
The question of which engine Payday 3 is actually being developed in is particularly exciting. According to Starbreeze, the co-op shooter will initially appear in Unreal Engine 4. However, an upgrade to Unreal Engine 5 is already firmly planned:
We started developing the game on the Unreal 4, so it makes the most sense for us to release it that way. We plan to upgrade to Unreal Engine 5 after release.
Epic Games has already impressively proven with Fortnite that such a graphics upgrade can actually work. In other cases, however, such an engine jump has already caused major problems, such as with the controversial shooter The Day Before.
What else has been announced? The graphics were of course not the only topic in the developer FAQ. For example, it was revealed that the game will take place in New York and that the well-known gang consisting of Dallas, Chains, Hoxton and Wolf will return.
There was also initial information about the Season Pass: Similar to the predecessor, there will again be heaps of DLCs that will contain new heists, skins and weapons. The Silver Season Pass that you get with the Silver Edition includes all DLCs that appear six months after release. With the Gold Edition, it is the first twelve months.
Ten years after its release, Payday 2 offers more than 80 DLCs priced between 3 and 7 euros – so if Payday 3 can show a similar longevity, the Season Passes are probably just a drop in the bucket.
