Several Nintendo Switch titles appear to be out of print

It appears Nintendo is phasing out over 15 Nintendo Switch titles. ResetEra user Neoxon described each of the out-of-print titles according to Amazon. This comes just before the Nintendo Switch turns seven years old, with games spanning from 2017 to 2023.

The following titles appear to be out of stock at retailers:

  • Paper Mario: The King of Origami
  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Frost
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (2019)
  • Pikmin 3 Deluxe
  • Metroid Terror
  • Kirby Star Allies
  • Xenoblade 2 Chronicles
  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
  • Fire Emblem: Three Houses
  • Fire Emblem: Get involved
  • Yoshi’s Crafted World
  • WarioWare: Get it together!
  • Sports on Nintendo Switch
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Splatoon 2
  • Super Mario Maker 2
  • Mario Strikers: Battle League

If you still don’t own one of the titles above and want to add it to your collection, you should do so as soon as possible. When these titles go out of print, resale copies will be extremely expensive and well above the $60 MSRP. Get them while you can.

Why are Nintendo Switch titles out of print?

This could be for a few reasons, with the main idea being that Nintendo may be preparing to release a line of “Nintendo Selects” for the Nintendo Switch. Usually released at the end of each generation, this range of games benefits from significant discounts and is promoted under the Nintendo Selects brand. Additionally, it could be for Nintendo to rename them with compatibility for the Switch 2 or whatever the next console is called. It’s heavily speculated that the company will launch the Switch’s successor sometime in 2024, so the timing is largely right.

Overall, it’s very confusing to see titles like Fire Emblem commits, which isn’t even a year old yet and seems to be exhausted. The same can be said of Super Mario Odyssey, one of the best-selling games on the system. There are likely circumstances like the ones we described above, but no one can guess until we know more.

Although these games will not be physically available at retailers, they will still remain available for digital purchase on the eShop. We’ll keep an eye on this topic and update you on any additional titles when more information is found.
