Dead Cells – How to Get the Homunculus Rune & a Secret Spawn Blueprint (Disengagement Mutation Guide)

The secret blueprint is in a niche at the top of the spawn room.

There is in Dead Cells one very last rune you can unlock. It gives you access to a super-secret blueprint in the spawn room. The Homunculus Rune is unlocked in a fairly straightforward and ordinary way – you “just” need to defeat the Hand of the King and successfully complete the game. This gives you the ability to detach your head, which can then crawl around freely, pertinent to the film The thing remind. Your head-thing can crawl through tiny passages way too small for your whole body.

But even knowing this doesn’t really help you get the useful Disengagement Mutation Blueprint. It’s one of the last secrets you’ll find in the game, right at the start, and it’s completely impossible to collect this blueprint before you have the Homunculus Rune.

Read on to learn how to get the Disengagement Mutation Blueprint. You will also get more information about the sometimes powerful Homunculus Rune.

How to Get the Homunculus Rune & a Secret Spawn Blueprint | Disengagement Guide

The Homunculus Rune is unlocked when you defeat the Hand of the King and then kill the King himself. After the credits roll, you will respawn in the starting room as if nothing had happened – but you will receive a Stem Cell (or Boss Cell) that you can use to play a difficulty level higher.

  • Homunculus rune: Unlocked once you have successfully beaten the game once. Press (R3/V) to take off your head to start. He can cling to walls, crawl through narrow passages, and stun enemies he attaches himself to. You can also move freely without the head and continue attacking when it is attached to an enemy. The head is connected to your body by a liana/vine and will return to it if this connection is stretched too much.

The Homunculus Rune is not just a useful tool in fighting enemies. You can also use them to reach secret areas that were previously inaccessible – including the one where the Disengagement Mutation Blueprint can be found. To find this secret blueprint, the following steps are required:

  • Disengagement Mutation Blueprint:

    1. Start again from the spawn/start room and stay close to the left wall (Spider Rune required) and then jump to the right wall. If you stick to the right wall, you will be able to spot the Disengagement Rune in a hidden alcove.

    2. To reach it, you must use your Homunculus Rune head and slam it into the wall while jumping. If your body slides down the wall and then falls, the liana connection will pull the head back toward the body.

    3. Mid-jump, launch/slam your head into the wall, then hold down-right until you enter the secret tunnel. Go right, then up, then right, and finally down to reach the Blueprint.

If you manage to get the severed head into the niche with the plan before your body falls to the ground, you can take the item. Press (R3 / V) to recall your head and collect the blueprint. It’s pretty simple, but you’d have to have an eagle’s eye to even spot this plan.

The Disengagement Rune gives you a six-second invincibility shield after your health falls below 20% – which is incredibly helpful. You can use this invulnerability to attack enemies or heal in peace and safety. This is particularly practical at higher levels of difficulty.
