The outdoor touring app Komoot can import and export routes in GPX format.
Thanks to this function, you can also easily use routes from other applications in Komoot. In addition to GPX, Komoot also supports the route formats FIT and TCX when importing.
Thanks to the GPX export function, you can also easily upload routes planned in Komoot to other navigation applications and use them there.
The import and export of GPX files into Komoot works both via the smartphone apps and on the Komoot website. Depending on the application, one or the other method is more recommended.
The following sections show how you can import and export GPX files into Komoot.
Export routes on the Komoot website as GPX

Register on the Komoot website and select the route you want.

In the route details you can download the GPX file using the “Download for GPS device” link.
Importing GPX files via the Komoot website is almost as easy.

Open the “Tours – Planned” section on the Komoot website and click on “Import GPS file”.

You can then select and upload the GPX file on your PC.

Then you choose whether you want to save the route as a “planned route” or “made route” in order to sort it accordingly.
The export of GPX files in the Komoot app on the smartphone is designed slightly differently than on the website.
Export routes as GPX in the Komoot app

Open the desired route in the Komoot app and download it to your smartphone by activating the “Available offline” option.

Then open the menu using the three dots at the top right and click on “Export GPX file”. This will then be automatically downloaded and saved on your smartphone in the download folder.

The route import mask that appears after the GPX export is automatically displayed after the download and can be ignored.
Importing GPX files into the Komoot app is similar to the upload method from the website.

Open your “profile” in the Komoot app using the toolbar at the bottom.

Switches to either “Planned” or “Done” for tours.

You can then load the GPX file into the app using the link at the top right and selecting Import file.

The file manager opens automatically, where you can select the GPX file.

Then you choose whether you want to save the route as a “planned route” or “made route” in order to sort it accordingly.
With the GPX format you can easily exchange routes between Komoot and Google Maps and use the more suitable service when navigating.
