Hogwarts Legacy character doesn’t speak: No voices on the Switch

A few days ago, the Harry Potter adventure called Hogwarts Legacy was also released for the Nintendo Switch and is enjoying great popularity there despite some bugs. Even if there are some graphical downgrades, Hogwarts Legacy is definitely worth seeing and a good experience, especially in handheld mode. Anyone who has bought the Switch version will perhaps have the same problems with the voice output that we (and many others) had at the beginning. The problem is that the voice acting sometimes doesn’t work properly and the characters don’t speak. The question arises, what is the cause of the sound problem and is there already a solution?

Hogwarts Legacy: No voices on the Nintendo Switch

If the characters or even your own character does not speak and no voice output can be heard, then according to our research this could be due to various reasons. Sometimes it helps to simply quit the game and start it again, but the problem kept reoccurring for us. Ultimately, we were able to solve the voice output problem by changing the console language of the Nintendo Switch from German to English and then changing the language in the game from English to German. We have the “solution” or rather the workaround linked Reddit thread discovered.

For other players, the only time the characters shouldn’t speak is when you’re playing Hogwarts Legacy on the Switch in dock mode on the TV. In addition to the “change language” trick described above, changing a sound setting is said to have solved the problem. The sound setting is the surround sound setting, which you have to set to “Automatic”.

Presumably the audio issues with non-speaking characters in Hogwarts Legacy on the Switch will be fixed in one of the upcoming updates (as will hopefully the other bugs). Until then, the solution described above by changing the system language on the switch should help.
