Guy Ritchie is back – this time he’s trying his hand at a Netflix show, based on his own film The Gentlemen. Here’s everything you need to know about it, plus the age-old question: Should I watch the movie first?
Guy Ritchie: the man, the myth, the legend. With films like 2009’s Sherlock Holmes or 2023’s The Covenant, he certainly has his place in the “Filmmakers’ Hall of Fame.”
The Gentlemen was another pretty solid film of 2019 – remember that one? With big names like Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell? Exactly this one!
The story revolves around Mickey Pearson, an American expat who built a highly profitable empire in London. When Mickey decides to retire and sell his business, chaos ensues as various criminal organizations and ambitious individuals attempt to take control of his empire.

The Witcher Season 4: Estimated Release Date, Expected Story Continuation and More
Now Netflix has picked up the movie and made it into a series, released March 7, 2024 with eight episodes. However, does the movie have any background knowledge to enter the series?
The Gentlemen on Netflix – Movie or Show First?
It’s Eddie Horniman. Aside from his rather unfortunate last name, the general Gentlemen audience may remember… they don’t remember him.
If you haven’t seen the movie, this is good news for you. there’s nothing you necessarily need to catch up on, you can dive straight into another binge watch on the weekend. I still highly recommend watching the movie!
The series will tackle a whole new story to tell and you don’t need to have seen The Gentlemen as a film to join in the fun – the premise is a bit similar, though, and there’s still some… society , so speak:
THE GENTLEMEN sees Eddie Horniman (Theo James) unexpectedly inherit his father’s sizable country estate – only to discover he is part of a cannabis empire. What’s more, a host of unsavory characters from the British underworld want in on the operation. Determined to free his family from his clutches, Eddie attempts to play the gangsters at their own game. However, as he gets drawn into the world of crime, he begins to take a liking to it.
Be sure to check out The Gentlemen on Netflix coming soon March 7 to see where Eddie’s taste for crime takes him.
