The PS4 is approaching a million in Japan

Although we celebrated one year of life of the PlayStation 4 in the USA and Europe a few days ago, Japan will still have to wait a few weeks before being able to blow out the console’s first candle. We learned today that in forty weeks of marketing, 809,074 units have been sold across the archipelago.

As shown in the graph available below, after a great start, the machine experienced a spectacular fall and stagnated at a rate that Sony would undoubtedly like to see it take off very quickly, like what is happening in the rest of the world.

As we can see, the last three weeks of the console’s life seem a little better than the rest of the year with a score beyond 10,000 machines sold. Considering the fact that console sales in Japan increase significantly in the weeks of Christmas and New Year (mainly due to “Otoshidama,” the tradition that invites parents to donate their money for children on New Year’s Day), If Sony manages to maintain weekly sales at more than 10,000, they will total 90,000 machines during the end of year holidays (which is certainly achievable looking at historical data), the console could thus get very close to the million units sold over the year.
