Trello will limit your use of the free plan: what’s changing in April

Trello imposes a new limitation on free workspaces

The Trello platform, designed for project management, will impose new restrictions on its free plan. From April 8, 2024, the company announces, on its dedicated support portal, that “the spaces (of the) free plan will be limited to 10 employees”. The term “collaborator” includes members permanently integrated, able to make modifications to the workspace, guests authorized to view and modify the content of the cards, as well as “board members who are not members of your workspace”. This adjustment announced by the platform only concerns users of the free plan. “Our paid plans allow you to have an unlimited number of collaborators in a workspace”specifies Trello.

According to the platform, this evolution of the free formula, very popular with businesses, will take place in two phases. From April 8, workspaces with more than 10 employees will no longer be able to include new members or guests in their tables and workspaces. Then, starting May 20, 2024, each workspace exceeding the authorized limit will automatically switch to “read-only” mode. Understand: it will no longer be possible to make the slightest modification to a table or the workspace. “If your organization already subscribes to the Enterprise offer, you can (…) request to associate your workspace with that of the company in order to accommodate more than 10 employees. “, However, Trello specifies. The complete procedure is detailed at this address.

How to remove a collaborator from a workspace on Trello

In anticipation of this update, it is already possible to gauge and manage the number of employees who have access to your workspace. This information is visible in the tab Members, located in the sidebar of the interface, on the left. To remove access from inactive members or whose presence is no longer required, simply go to this tab, then click on the button Withdrawlocated to the right of their profile image.

In addition, Trello specifies that collaborators removed from the workspace must also be removed “of all tables in the workspace”. To do this, simply repeat these steps on all the tables concerned:

  • Within the Trello interface, click the button Sharelocated on the right,
  • Click on the drop-down menu displayed to the right of the profile image,
  • Press on Remove from board.
