Activate Minecraft ray tracing on PS5 and PS4?

If you got Minecraft for the PS4 or PS5 and took a look at the settings, you might have noticed the “Upscaling” and “Ray Tracing” options under the graphics settings. When it comes to the ray tracing switch, the question often arises: why is the switch actually grayed out? How to turn on the ray tracing switch on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5?

Enable Minecraft PS5 ray tracing

The short answer to the question is, at least for the current version, you can Do not activate ray tracing in Minecraft on the PS4 or on the PS5. The PlayStation 5 should actually support ray tracing and it is already available in some games, but there is currently no way to activate the graphics feature in the console version of Minecraft. Since the switch is already there, it will probably only be a matter of time before an update is released sooner or later that enables ray tracing in the game.

If you own the PlayStation 5 and really want to try out ray tracing, you can do so in games like the new Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and Cyberpunk 2077. There is also the ray tracing option in Spider-Man Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apark and Watch Dogs Legion. In the following list we have published all of the currently available ray tracing games for the PS5.

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition
  • Gran Turismo 7
  • Maneater
  • Observer: System Redux
  • Pragmata
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Spider-Man Remastered
  • Stray
  • Watch Dogs: Legion

We have expanded the list again. In some of the PS5 games mentioned, ray tracing is activated automatically as long as you have activated “graphics mode” and NOT “performance mode” in the settings.
