Chromecast with Google TV receives its first update of 2024. Improves performance, but don’t expect Fast Pair

Having our devices updated is always something we like because three things can happen: it has performance improvements, it has new functions or it is simply a security patch, which is also fine. There is a fourth possibility, which is an update that breaks something or makes the experience worse, but it is not normal.

A device that is not updated much is the Chromecast with Google TV, but that is going to change in 2024. Google has already announced several improvements, such as the arrival of Fast Pair to the platform, but before that we have to talk about the Chromecast Google TV update just released. It is 150 MB and we will tell you how to install it.

How to download the new Chromecast Google TV update

Google ended 2023 improving the Chromecast with an update and is going to start the year with more of the same. It is always good news, but in addition, In 2024 we will have very juicy news for the device.

At CES in Las Vegas, the company announced that it was joining hands with TikTok to bring the platform to TV thanks to the ‘Send’ function. In addition, at some point this year we will be able to connect our compatible TWS headphones to the Chromecast much more easily thanks to the Fast Pair function.

When that update arrives and we open, for example, the headphone box near a Chromecast Google TV, a notice will appear indicating that, if we wish, we can connect those headphones to start outputting the audio through them.

As we say, that function has not arrived yet, but as we read in Android Authority, and as we have been able to update on our device, Google has just released the STTL.231114.004 update for the Chromecast with Google TV 4K.

This is an update that weighs 148 MB, which raises the security patch to December 2023 (the last, therefore) and that includes some performance improvements. No matter how minimal this improvement is, it is always welcome considering that, sometimes, the Chromecast can be jerky.

The update should install automatically, but if it doesn’t, follow these steps to update your Chromecast Google TV to the latest version:

  • Enter the Chromecast settings, going to the top right.
  • In ‘Settings’ we must go to ‘System’.
  • Once there, click on ‘Information’ and, again, click on ‘System Update’.
  • It will keep looking for an update and when it finds it, we download it and reboot to apply it.

Once this is done, you will have your Chromecast updated and the only thing left is to wait for next month when, supposedly, the long-awaited Fast Pair function would arrive.
