“Exorcise the demon” from Xiaomi phones: This is how you deactivate the MIUI daemon

The “MIUI Daemon” system app can still be found on many popular Xiaomi cell phones such as the Redmi Note 11S in 2022. Behind the mysterious application is a tool with which the manufacturer apparently collects some data to improve the user interface.

The MIUI daemon collects this data

According to the analysis of a Xiaomi fan blog, the MIUI daemon collects the following data about your phone.

  • the size of the built-in memory
  • the time for how long the screen is on
  • Main memory load statistics
  • Battery and CPU stats
  • The status of Bluetooth and WiFi
  • the IMEI number

The application is not a spy app because it does not collect any direct personal data from you, but only information about the status of the device. If you still feel uncomfortable, you can deactivate the MIUI daemon. This is done in just a few steps. The following video shows you how to proceed.

Below you will also find step-by-step instructions with screenshots of the individual steps.

MIUI Daemon – Revoke consent

  1. 1

    Opens the settings.

  2. 2

Now look for “Authorization” in the bar and select the “Authorization & Revocation” menu item.

  3. 3

Now tap on the switch next to “MIUI Daemon”.

  4. 4

Xiaomi informs you that the app may no longer work if you revoke it and gives you a few seconds to think about it. Wait for this and then confirm the revocation.

  5. 5

The switch should now be gray. The MIUI daemon is now disabled.

  6. You will also find instructions online on how to completely uninstall the daemon. However, some of these require major interventions in the system and are therefore only recommended for experienced users.

In further instructions we will tell you how you can also deactivate advertising in the MIUI user interface.

There are also other settings that you should definitely adjust on Xiaomi phones.
