The latest version of MIUI 14 brings a great novelty for Xiaomi: it allows you to force 120 Hz in all apps

It has now become a standard in the mobile industry that most mid-range and high-end smartphones have a t90Hz or 120Hz refresh rate on their screens, and even more, with the exception of some that strangely lag behind at 60 Hz. But sometimes, some applications do not exceed 60 Hz in their refresh rate, something that can be frustrating if your mobile has a screen more fluid.

Xiaomi will have a solution for this problem. In the most recent version of MIUI 14, the company’s custom layer based on Android, the system includes a new function that allows force the refresh rate to 120 Hz in any application, in order to guarantee the greatest fluidity and the best user experience.

120 Hz on the screen, even by force

Many Xiaomi phones allow you to select the refresh rate of their screens in the device configuration menu, being able to choose between 60 Hz, 90 Hz and 120 Hz on smartphones that have this feature in their technical sheet. But still, sometimes, some applications run at a maximum of 60 Hz, even when the smartphone screen has a faster refresh rate. This translates into less fluidity in the imageand in image flickers when there is a variation in the refresh rate between applications.

It is this problem that attacks the recent MIUI 14 update that is becoming available, first in China. The MIUI version in question is the V14.0.10.0.TLECNXM, as reported in GizmoChina. For now, the brand has only released it for the Xiaomi 12S Pro, and mentions the following in the changelog included in the version, as revealed by IT Home:

  • Update with Google security patches from August 2023, improves system security.
  • The mobile adds the function of customizing the screen refresh rate in specific applications.

According to images published by IT Home of the changes in the system, the mobile now allows you to select between a “standard” and a “high” refresh rate for force greater fluidity in own or third-party applications. In other words, if the Xiaomi mobile has a 120Hz screen, you can force those 120Hz in any application that, for some reason, does not exceed 60Hz. This can be configured from the MIUI settings menu.

This update still does not have a release date for the rest of the territories, but we hope to see it soon on all compatible Xiaomi, POCO or Redmi devices, while Xiaomi is working on what will be the launch of its next major operating system update, MIUI 15 .

How to change icons on Xiaomi phones with MIUI

Personalization on Xiaomi phones is so broad that MIUI, the brand’s personalized layer, Allows you to change almost any look without complications. Icons are part of these customization possibilities since the theme app has an infinity of these elements. In addition, it is also possible to install icon packs from the Google Play Store.

Installing themes on a Xiaomi mobile is as easy as going to its themes app and downloading one of the available ones, at least as long as you said the app (in Spain it can be used). Brand personalization allows completely change the appearance of the interface or choose portions: wallpapers, fonts or icons. While there are several ways to customize the design of the layers, including these icons: from within the Themes app, install a launcher or download icon packs from Google Play. Let’s see how to perform each method.

Customize the icons of the « themes »

This is the easiest option as MIUI provides everything you need to adapt phone icons to a wide variety of styles. Of course, with a downside: the appearance of the designs is generally too oriental, so there aren’t too many styles of materials to give an example. Still, it’s worth taking a look, you can find the icons that match your phone.

To download and install icon packs from the theme app, follow these steps:

  • Find the ‘Themes’ application among all the applications installed on your Xiaomi.
  • Choose one of the themes making sure they have icons (They should be in the majority).
  • Go back to the themes home screen and click on the icon at the bottom right, the profile icon.
  • Go to the « Icons » category.
  • Click on the theme you downloaded, then click « Apply. »

In this way you will not apply the entire theme because you will have selected only its icons. Of course, if you want to completely change the MIUI interface, apply the theme from its ‘Themes’ category. Also in your profile options (local files).

Customize the icons of a launcher

MIUI is a layer that offers many possibilities, but among them Cannot find icon pack installation on Google Play. It is a hindrance if you want to install the packs you bought from the Android store on your phone because you cannot use the MIUI launcher with them. In return, you have a plethora of interfaces at your fingertips, like Nova Launcher.

Nova is one of the best launchers that you can install on your phone. Clean and with an ‘Android stock’ design, highly customizable and with the possibility of installing icon packs. If you want to use your own packs with MIUI Nova, it is highly recommended.

Nova Launcher

Other launchers compatible with the installation of icon packs (the first two are from Xiaomi):

Apply your icon packs without installing launchers

Installing a launcher is a bit tricky as it’s nothing more than a patch that keeps fixing the problem: change MIUI icons with Google Play packs. Therefore, let’s see how the packs are installed in the MIUI launcher that comes with your Xiaomi by default. To do this, we will use an application to modify the installed themes: Theme Editor For MIUI.

Theme editor for MIUI

Theme editor for MIUI allows you to edit themes installed in MIUI. You can change any element, such as backgrounds, fonts or of course icons. And it does exactly what we are looking for: with this app we can apply icon packs downloaded from Google Play directly on other icons downloaded from « Themes ». It is the closest thing in MIUI to installing a third party package.

To use the theme editor to edit MIUI icons, you need to do the following:

  • Make sure you have downloaded the icon packs you want to install on your mobile.
  • Go to the MIUI themes app and download the one you like for its design and appearance. It doesn’t matter that you are not interested in its icons because we will change them with Theme Manager for MIUI.
  • Once the theme is downloaded, open the Theme Editor For MIUI app.
  • Tap « Choose a theme » and choose the theme you downloaded.
  • When you have chosen the theme, click on « Start »: all the changes you make in the application will be made on the selected theme.
  • Click on « Application icons » then on « Import the complete icon pack ».
  • Select the pack from the “Select Icon Pack” drop-down list and click “Done”.
  • Uncheck the « Apply changes to installed applications only » button. In this way all theme icons will be overwritten by those from the packWhether or not you have the relevant apps on your phone.
  • Click on « Back » to return to the initial menu of the theme editor for MIUI.
  • Click on « Next » and end the process with « Finish ». The app will create a copy of the chosen theme with the icons from the Google Play package. When finished, click on « Install » to have the modified theme is installed on the mobile.
  • Now go to MIUI ‘Themes’ app and apply duplicate theme manager for MIUI theme, the one that says ‘(Apply me)’.
  • Your theme may uninstall after a while, this is not a problem with the Theme Editor for MIUI: Xiaomi does not allow you to apply third party themes. If this happens to you, you will have to reapply the theme with the icons. Or you can register your Xiaomi account as a designer on this website: this will allow you to use third-party themes.

You can change the themes you download from the MIUI app and also some of the themes preinstalled on your Xiaomi phone. After the theme is applied, you can change the wallpapers to your liking to match the style of the icons.

How to configure mobile payments on a Xiaomi with MIUI

The democratization of NFC in practically all Android ranges is making it easier for each day to take out your mobile to pay. As usual, just activate our mobile payments application to start working (since NFC is usually activated by default) but, nevertheless, companies like Xiaomi require some extra step when setting this up.

That is why it is necessary to explain how to configure mobile payments on a Xiaomi with MIUI (In the models with Android One it does not apply), since we must configure a certain setting somewhat different to ensure that the NFC is operational when using our cards.

The HCE purse, the key to this matter

To activate mobile payments on Xiaomi mobiles with MIUI, it is necessary to activate the HCE wallet, a setting that we do not usually see on Android. HCE stands for Host Card Emulation, a technology that allows virtualize credit and debit cards in our terminal, which allows us to use our mobile software to pay with these cards.

Xiaomi mobiles do not come with the HCE wallet active, which prevents paying through NFC, even if we have everything else configured correctly

For some reason, MIUI mobiles do not have the HCE wallet activated as a security element, which prevents the phone from accessing our cards, even though we have registered them in the corresponding applications. Therefore, the first thing we must do to start configuring mobile payments is to activate it.

  • We go to the phone settings
  • ‘Connect and share’
  • We activate the NFC -‘Position of the security element ‘
  • We change the wallet to ‘Use HCE wallet’

Choosing the default method

Once we have changed the wallet to HCE, it is convenient to choose the default method to pay. If we have our cards registered in Google Pay, we just have to select this as the main payment method. However, some apps not compatible with Google Pay, but they allow you to pay by registering the app as the default payment method.

To configure the payment through the application that we want, we must follow the steps we show.

  • Settings
  • ‘Plus’
  • ‘Touch and pay’
  • Change the default payment app to the one you want

Ready. Once we have configured these two elements (HCE wallet and default payment method) there is only a third step, make sure we have configured Google Pay correctly or, if you have an independent bank app, have downloaded your cards and activated mobile payment from said app.

The legendary POCO F3 is left without Android 14, just like the Xiaomi 12X. In exchange, they will update to MIUI 15, according to Xiaomiui

One of the most popular brands from East Asia is Xiaomi, with two very well-positioned subbrands such as Redmi and POCO. This second protagonist He left us very good memories with his first terminalthe nostalgic Poco F1 that we put to the test in 2023.

And they didn’t do anything wrong with the Poco F3, which became great value for money in one of the unbeatables until relatively recently. Well, unfortunately, your medium It seems to be reaching the end of the road, after two years receiving updates.

The POCO F3 says goodbye to the new version of Android, although Xiaomi will continue updating it

He support and years of updates They are gradually gaining more interest from users who worry that the device for which they pay hundreds of euros stays up to date with updates. Xiaomi and its MIUI do not have a good reputation in relation to this aspect, and it seems that they have already gotten to work, offering 4 years of updates for a specific model.

The next software updates for the POCO F3 will not bring Android 14. Image | SamaGame

As a rule, Xiaomi updates its devices during two years, bringing the new versions of MIUI and Android closer in this period. After going on the market with Android 11, and updating first to Android 12 and then to Android 13, the legendary Poco F3 says goodbye to the imminent Android 14. The next Google update has already been announced by manufacturers such as Samsung or OnePlus, with betas ready to test, and awaiting Google’s starting signal.

Thus, the POCO smartphone would not have new functions such as the new predictive “Back” gesture, at least not from the base of the system. Because really, it could inherit many of its features as long as they are included in the future MIUI 15 that we will soon see.

In addition to the aforementioned POCO terminal, two Xiaomi devices are added to the list: the Xiaomi 12X and Xiaomi 10S. As we say, just because they run out of future versions of the Google system does not mean that the manufacturer will not update its customization layer.

Therefore, we can expect a version of MIUI 15 running on Android 13. Furthermore, as we read in Xiaomiui, a couple of compilations have been spotted that correspond to this duality, so Xiaomi would already be working so that the union between MIUI-Android improves the user experience.

This case now leads us to another question: What will happen to the Poco F4? And the truth is that the only thing we have so far is uncertainty. We can have a little more hope as it has been on the market for a year less, but its similarities make it another possible candidate.

Be that as it may, we must be patient until, first, we know the final version of Android 14, and later, we discover Xiaomi’s plans with this update. That will be when all doubts will be clarified and we will know if the Chinese manufacturer’s policy regarding support has changed.

How to get Google Discover news on Xiaomi mobiles with MIUI

Do you want to have easy access to Google news from your Xiaomi, the so-called Discover? In case MIUI does not offer you the option in the launcher, you can always pin a shortcut, use a launcher or access through the MIUI app safe

All Xiaomi mobiles come with the possibility of anchoring a desktop to the left of the interface, this is called Application safe or « Application safe », a smart space where you can find everything from weather information to recommended apps. Now what if you want to redeem it for Google News, the so-called Google Discover? Xiaomi has started including it in new mobiles, such as the Xiaomi Mi 10 and the Redmi Note 9 family. Although the company decides to expand it to more international mobiles, we will show you the ways to access the stream. Google news.

Use the Google search widget

It’s one of the easiest ways to access Google news from all xiaomi phones can use it, regardless of the model and version of MIUI (and almost all other Android). In fact, it’s more convenient than having Discover to the left of the desks because you just have to click on the widget to load the news.

In general, the search widget is usually preloaded on global Xiaomi mobiles. In case you didn’t or deleted it, you need to do the following:

  • Make the pinch gesture on your mobile desktop to display the launcher options.
  • Click on the « Widgets » icon.
  • Go to the Google section and click on its search widget to add it to the desktop.
  • If you don’t like the long widget, you can resize it until it only occupies two columns.

Once the widget is docked, you can access Google News by clicking on the « G » of said widget.

Use the MIUI app safe

The new MIUI international mobiles no longer have “App vault”, the so-called application vault: the Xiaomi Mi 10, Redmi Note 9, Redmi Note 9S or Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro bring the Google Discover series. Older mobiles don’t have this option, but they can also use App Vault to access Google news.

This process involves an additional click on the widget without this little nuisance overshadowing the deployment of Discover. AND without having to change the look of your MIUI desks.

Change the launcher

If you want to emulate the behavior of Google Discover on non-Xiaomi mobiles and your MIUI launcher does not have the option in its settings, the only way to get it (for now) is via a third-party launcher. There are several that include the option, like the rootless launcher. We will choose this application for its simplicity, lightness and low consumption.

  • Download the launcher from Google Play.
  • Download the Apk to activate and install Google Discover.
  • Exit at the start of your Xiaomi and choose Launcher without root as the launcher.
  • Pinch on the desktop and go to « Home Settings ».
  • Activate ‘Show Google app‘and you will have the Discover news to the left of the desks.

Choose Discover if you already have it in your MIUI launcher

We were already saying that the new Xiaomi international mobiles come with Google Discover instead of App vault. So if you already have one on the market in 2020, you can check if you already have the option included in the MIUI launcher. For that:

  • Make the pinch gesture on the desktop of your Xiaomi and go to Settings.
  • Click on ‘More’.
  • Check the “Google Discover” option.

How to customize your Xiaomi mobile with MIUI to the fullest

We are going to explain how to customize your Xiaomi mobile with MIUI to the fullest , so that you can give it a totally different and more personalized look so that it suits you. In its day we already explained how to customize Android, but we have decided to make specific articles for those manufacturers whose phones have a particularly different layer of personalization.

And we will start with Xiaomi and its MIUI customization layer. The idea is to focus on the native options of the mobile without having to resort to dangerous changes such as root, which make you lose guarantees. We will also mention several third-party tools that you can use to make these changes. You will have the alternatives, and then you will be the one to decide which of them you want to use to give your desktop a unique look.

We are going to do the article based on a Mi 9T Pro device with the MIUI 12 customization layer. I’m telling you because depending on the mobile and the version of the MIUI customization layer that you have, there may be some options that you don’t appear or something different appears on your Xiaomi device. But we have used

And as we always say in this type of SamaGame Basics articles, if you think we have missed any method or alternative, we invite you to share with us your methods or resources in the comments section . Thus, whoever comes to this article in order to fully customize their operating system, may also benefit from the knowledge of our Xatakeros.

Change the wallpaper

One of the first classic steps when it comes to personalizing your mobile is to change the wallpaper for another that you like more. To do so, enter the settings of your device, and once inside, click on the Wallpaper option . On other Android devices, this option usually comes within the screen options, but Xiaomi prefers to have it clearly visible and independent.

Another option to access the wallpaper settings is to press and hold your finger on the desktop background for a few seconds, until it pops up and options appear. In these options, at the bottom left you will have a button to access the Wallpaper settings .

Whichever way you choose to get there, a window called Wallpaper will open . In it, you will have several folders with the funds on your device organized by type, and also access to your local photos so that you can put the one you like the most of it as your wallpaper.

Below you will have a section for Online Wallpapers , in which you will preview several of them recommended and you will also have some categories to choose from. You can navigate through the sections to find a background to your liking, and if you are not convinced, at the bottom you have the Find more button .

If you click on Find more , you will access a much more complete catalog within the Themes application . Here you can navigate through many other categories until you find that static or animated theme that you like the most. When you find a fund in any of the methods, click on it.

When you click on the wallpaper that you have seen, a preview will be made so you can see how it looks. If you are not convinced you can go back, and if you do click on the Apply button that you have at the bottom. When you do, you can choose how to use this wallpaper , which can be for the desktop, the home screen, or both.

And as for where to get the wallpapers, in Engadget Android you have a collection with all the wallpapers of the most important mobiles. You can also use specific applications such as Bing Wallpapers, Google Wallpapers and many other apps to download free backgrounds that you have available. Metacommunities like Reddit also have entire communities dedicated to vertical wallpapers and backgrounds specially designed for AMOLED displays.

Choose between light and dark mode

The dark mode makes the entire interface of your device turn black, and you will be able to activate it manually or program it in case you like these tones. To do this, you have to enter the settings of your device, and inside, click on the Screen section to see everything related to it.

Once inside the Screen settings , you have to click on the Dark Mode option . By default it will deactivate it, but if you want to activate or configure it you have to enter this category.

When you enter the Dark Mode options , you will be able to do two things. The first is to simply activate the Dark Mode option that appears first. Below, you can activate the option to set the wallpaper to this mode, although it will only work with native Xiaomi backgrounds that support this option.

And secondly, instead of activating the dark mode you can activate the Schedule option . When you do, you will see the options to activate and deactivate. With them, you will be able to decide the exact time you want the dark mode to be activated automatically and the time you want it to be deactivated.

When you have the dark mode activated, below you will have an option called Individual applications . If you go there, you can manually activate the dark mode in the compatible applications where you want to activate it.

Choose between control buttons or gestures

This change is not only aesthetic, but practical. MIUI has the classic Android control buttons “of a lifetime” at the bottom of the screen, but you can change them by gestures , either to navigate more fluidly or to have the background full screen. To do so, enter the device settings and click on the Additional Settings section . Within these settings, click on the Play full screen option .

Inside here you will be able to choose between two options. You can choose to use the control buttons for full screen navigation or gestures . In the event that you opt for gestures, you have an option to hide its indicator, which is that thin bar that appears at the bottom so you can slide your finger over it.

Also, if you opt for gestures, you will also find a guide with all the available gestures . It’s on the same Play Full Screen screen , just below the selector and extra options. You can click on the gesture you see to play the demo, although you can see how they work in the thumbnails.

Add Widgets to the home screen

Widgets are small windows that you can put on desktops in addition to icons, and they serve to preview the information of some applications without having to open them. To add them, press and hold the mobile desktop for a few seconds, and click on the Widgets option when the options menu appears.

You will go to the Add widget screen , where all the ones you have available will appear. They will be organized in a list where you will see a row with all the widgets available in each of the applications, and all you have to do is click on the widget you want to add to your desktop.

Once you have added a widget to the desktop, you can hold your finger on it and drag it to change the desktop where you want it to be or its exact position on the screen. When you drag it, at the top you will have a Delete option above which you can drop the widget to delete it.

Change the sounds of the phone or alarm clock

Another essential when giving a personal touch to your mobile is to change its ringtone and that of notifications and alarms . This is no longer useful just to give a note of color to the device, but it will also help you differentiate it from others of the same brand that are around. To start, go to your mobile settings and click on the Sound and vibration option that you will see in them.

You will enter a careful menu where MIUI makes it very easy for you. At the top you will have four buttons where you can see the tones that you have right now for calls, alarms, events and notifications, and below you have the volume they have. Here, click on the type of tone you want to change to enter its catalog of options.

When you click on one of the tones, you will enter a very visual list where you have all the tones and sounds that are available for the category. You can click on them to select and listen to them , leaving it selected if it convinces you or clicking on another if you prefer to search for more. You also have an All tones button to see the rest that do not appear in the list or use other sources, which can be from the recorder to the music app.

Finally, you should also know that there are many third-party applications to comfortably customize your tones , and that you can also set the music from Spotify or YouTube Music as an alarm clock. Also, many applications like WhatsApp have their own configuration options in which to set their own notification tones.

Customize the Control Center

The control center is the one that appears when you slide two fingers from top to bottom on the screen, or one from the upper right corner. In it you have quick shortcuts for some functions, with activation and deactivation buttons. You will be able to reorganize these buttons by adding others or eliminating the ones you don’t use. To do this, open the control center and click on the pencil icon writing on the paper that you will find in the upper right.

You will enter a screen divided in two. Above you will have the shortcuts that you have activated in the control center, and you will have a subtraction button to eliminate them. If you drag them around the screen you can rearrange them in the order you prefer. And below you will have some other shortcuts or switches that are not active, with a plus icon to add them to your control center.

Change the keyboard of your mobile

Manufacturers try to make default keyboards have all the options you need, and Xiaomi is no exception. But you will always be able to change the keyboard for another that you like more or offer you more options. The best keyboards for Android usually bring unique options that make them stand out from the competition. From the Gboard shortcuts and options such as creating stickers with your face, their themes, or combined emojis, to the robustness and veteran Swiftkey with functions such as its animated emojis or the ability to put photos as the keyboard background.

The keyboards are installed as if they were conventional applications , and when you launch them for the first time they will guide you step by step through all the configuration you need to do. If you have more than one, you can choose by entering the settings and clicking on the Additional settings section . There, click on Languages and text input , and then hit the Current keyboard option to change the one you have activated to another. Below you can configure it in Manage keyboards .

Change the default launcher

The Android launcher or launcher is like the desktop environment of the operating system, the design that you will find when you enter the main screen of your mobile device. Elements such as the icons you see on the screen, desktop options and gestures, the application drawer, etc., depend on it, although not other elements such as settings.

Xiaomi has its own launcher, which is the one that gives it that unique look. But if you want, you also have other third-party alternatives that you can download to give it a different look. They are installed as if they were normal applications, and in case you want to explore your alternatives, we leave you links to some of the best launchers that you can find on Android:

Once you install the launcher you have chosen, it may not be activated by default, but Xiaomi makes it very easy for you to change it . Just enter the settings and click on the Home screen section . that will appear to you.

Once you enter the Home screen options , you have to click on the predefined Launcher option that appears first. This will take you to the list with all the ones you have installed, including that of Xiaomi’s own system that has MIUI, and you can choose the one you prefer.

Customize the look of the home screen further

But if you leave the Xiaomi default launcher, there are also other adjustments that you can make to the home screen to give a personal touch to its appearance. To access them, go to the mobile settings and click again on the Home screen section that you will see in them.

The first option that you can change is also called the Home screen , and when you click on it you can decide if you want your mobile to have an application drawer . If you don’t have it, all the installed apps will have to be organized on all the mobile desktops, and if you activate it, you can remove apps from the desktops, and access them by sliding up to access the app drawer.

Further down, you will reach the Home screen Settings section , where you also have several things that you can change. The ones that affect customization the most are being able to change the size of the icons or the design of the home screen , deciding the size of some or the number of slots you want to have on the screen. The smaller the home screen layout, the fewer icons will fit.

Change the system font

By default, in Europe Xiaomi has blocked some options such as changing the font or system font. But there is a trick to activate it. You have to enter the settings and go to Additional Settings . There, click on Region and change Spain to India . When you do, options will be unlocked.

Now, go back to the main settings screen, and click on Display . Within the Screen settings , in the System Font section you will see that the System Font option appears, which is used to change the font, and that it does not normally appear. The downside is that you will have to stay in India as a region for it to continue to appear. You also have the option Text size that appears if you are in the Spain region, and it is to change the size of the letter.

If you click on System font , the Themes application will open in a hidden category where you will be able to find a large number of fonts to choose from. You will not find this section if you have configured your region as Spain. Here you will be able to search and download new fonts to use the one you want.

The other great option is to use a third-party launcher , at least if you don’t want to go around changing the region. Some of the launchers that we have told you about before do allow you to do so. An example is the popular Nova Launcher, always one of the most recommended, but you can also in others such as Action Launcher or Apex Launcher. If you have any other third-party launcher, take a good look at the options, since many will allow you to do so.

You can also use third-party applications , since there are some that are created specifically to be able to change the letter of the mobile. Some of the most popular are iFont, HiFont, or GxFonts for the Samsung Galaxy. When installing them, you will only have to navigate through their menus and choose the font you want to use.

Change the whole look or the icons with Themes

As you have already seen throughout this article, since we have mentioned it a couple of times, MIUI has a themes application that allows you to change everything on your mobile , from the wallpapers to the icons. You can download the themes you want and then combine them. When you enter the application, click on the themes section below, and you will have a large collection of them organized by categories and with a search engine at the top.

When you find a topic in the application, click on it and you will enter its file with the description , some tags and popular comments. Some themes appear as free and others as premium, the latter being also free on many occasions. You have to click on the Free or Premium button to start the download process.

When you click, all the elements of the theme will be downloaded and you will go to an intermediate step in which you can choose which elements of the theme that you have downloaded you want to apply . You can confirm or deselect them all, from the wallpaper to the lock screen or icons. When you have chosen, click on the Apply button , and the elements that you have selected will change the appearance of your mobile.

Once you click on the Apply button , the theme you have chosen will be applied and the entire look of your mobile will change completely, at least as far as the design of the operating system is concerned. Depending on the elements included in the theme, the wallpaper, the icons, the lock screen or the options menu will be changed.

In addition to the full themes, within the Themes application you have a tab at the bottom to view wallpapers . We have already talked to you about this before, and you have several different categories and a search engine at the top to find the one you like the most and install it.

In addition, at the bottom of the themes application you also have a tab to access your profile . In it, you will be able to access all the elements downloaded with the application separately, from the complete themes to the wallpapers, lock styles or icons. You will be able to see or apply them, check for updates or mark some as favorites. But the best is the Customize theme option that you have below.

If you click on Customize theme , you will go to a screen where you can change each aspect of the aspect of the current theme of your mobile . Come on, in each type of element you will have everything that you have downloaded included in themes, and you can choose each one of them separately. For example, you can combine everything you like about a certain theme but by adding different sounds or icons.

More modifications with other third-party apps

So far, we have told you about all the native functions that Xiaomi offers. But there is more, because in the Android application store you can find many applications to customize your mobile in many different ways. Here, the result is sometimes not going to be as beautiful as when they are native options, but in return you will find very curious things.

To give a few examples, you have applications that allow you to create your own widgets , such as the veteran KWGT, Chronus or Battery Reborn. They are usually modular applications that allow you to create many types of widgets, although to get all the functions in some you may have to buy a full version.

You also have others to change different types of aspects of the mobile, such as the status bar with gestures and icons, or the customization of the volume controls. There are also them to unlock hidden settings, optimize the sound of your headphones, decorate the navigation bar, or add a column with shortcuts on the edge of the screen.

Be careful with the applications you install

But before you go crazy installing apps, I’d like to warn you of something. In Google Play you have a thousand and one applications with which you can personalize your mobile in all aspects, the ones we have mentioned or others. But not all of them are safe, and it is very important that you remember that you should only install those applications that you trust , and that you inform yourself well before installing any of them.

Not only because there may be some type of malware, but because many of these applications need very delicate permissions to function , such as reading all the apps you have installed to display them or what you do on the screen. There may even be an app that asks for more permissions than it needs to collect data about you.

Therefore, it is very important not to install many apps or applications that you do not know without any type of control, since you may be compromising your privacy and the security of your mobile. Read well the comments of other users on Google Play to detect anomalies before installing, and if in any app you have doubts, search the Internet to see if something is said about it and if it is positive or negative.

You can also “root” the mobile

Another option to further customize your device is to root it. Rooting the mobile is obtaining superuser permissions , which means that you will be able to make much more profound changes than those you can do by default in the settings. Come on, you have total control of the device, with the dangers that this entails.

The process of rooting your Android is not excessively difficult, although if you are a user not very experienced in computing it may seem the opposite. It has some benefits, such as being able to install ROMs or modified versions of the Android operating system, such as LineageOS or Paranoid Android.

This allows you to have a version of Android that is not controlled by the manufacturer, but by the developer community, something that helps to be able to update to more modern versions of the operating system when the manufacturer has already abandoned your mobile and does not update it anymore. It also helps to squeeze the hardware to the maximum by taking advantage of the full potential of the internal components of the mobile, activate hidden functions or obtain all the customization functions.

But as we have told you, the process has some dangers . If something goes wrong you can mess up the mobile operating system and make it stop working. The adapted version of Android that you install may also have bugs and bugs, and may not work as well. And also, if you root the mobile, the manufacturer will ignore the warranty, and if something fails, you will not have it to fix it for you.

This, together with the fact that Android is becoming more complete in its serial version, makes it not highly recommended for first-time users , since for years it is something that many think that it is not always worth it. In any case, we have mentioned it to you because if you go to specialized websites and forums looking for information to customize Android, almost certainly someone will mention it.

For this reason, we wanted to compile five tricks with which you can take the captures you take with your Xiaomi phone with MIUI to another level, achieving incredible effects just by taking advantage of the software provided by the Chinese firm in its native camera application, full of of features such as** Xiaomi’s pro camera mode** and others that give you the opportunity to even take a good photo of the moon when it is fullwithout leaving a seedy overexposed circle on the screen.

The light and exposure meter, the best to activate the Pro mode in the camera of your Xiaomi

One of the tools that will help us considerably improve the capture of our photographs is the light and exposure meter provided by the native MIUI camera application. This function will act like the well-known “zebra pattern” that we find in professional cameras, represented with different lines when there are areas in our photographs with loss of informationsomething very useful in order to be able to use the professional mode of our phone without fear of exposing the capture badly.

In order to activate this function, we must follow the following steps:

  1. Access the camera app of your Xiaomi device
  2. Access the **** “Pro” mode ** of the Xiaomi camera ** that you will find in the mode dial of your application
  3. At the top right, open the menu and select “Exposure Verification

And that’s it, once activated, if we manually change the parameters of our capture such as shutter speed, aperture or ISO, we can see how the function it starts up allowing us to easily see the areas with loss of information.

The next trick that we want to show you is the well-known function “Focus Peaking” that we can find in the same way in professional cameras and that we will also be able to activate and enjoy on our Xiaomi device.

This function It will help us to correctly focus the subject or area of the photograph that we want to highlight, being represented with a striking red color so that its visualization is easier. By simply activating this mode, the camera application of our mobile phone, based on artificial intelligence, it will automatically adjust itself to the ideal settings in order to capture the sharpest photo possible.

Of course, we recommend that, when taking these types of photographs, you use a tripod or a support so that the phone does not move during the capture, in order to achieve the best possible result.

In order to activate this mode, we will have to access the following settings:

  1. Access the camera app of your Xiaomi device
  2. Select the “More” section of the mode selector and click on “Super moon”

Activate and use the long exposure mode of the Xiaomi camera

Another of the functions that Xiaomi includes in its camera interface and that draws directly from the world of professional photography is the long exposure mode.

This way it will help us to achieve different predefined effects related to long exposuresuch as getting the well-known “silk effect” in the water of a river or getting a starry sky at night.

As was the case with Supermoon mode, here it will also be essential to use a tripod to achieve an optimal result and avoid shaky photos. It will also be advisable to use this mode in low light conditions to achieve a more attractive result that gives an artistic touch to our photography.

In order to activate it:

1.Access the camera app of your Xiaomi device

  • Starry sky
  • star trails

Activate and use the clone mode of the Xiaomi camera

And to finish with this compilation of tricks we are going to close with one that we found especially fun and that opens up a world of possibilities at the level of creativity with our photographs. We are talking about the cloning mode with which, simply by leaving our phone in a fixed position, We can clone people so that they appear in different parts of a photo.

We have to tell you that this mode can only be used in landscape format and that, like the previous tricks, the use of a tripod is essential so that the shot has the best possible result.

Finally, whenever you want to close one of the windows, press ‘Exit’ on it and it will close, leaving only a single window open. You can reopen new windows as many times as you want.
