Microsoft bets on AI in Spain with a historic investment of 2.1 billion dollars


Microsoft has just announced a historic investment of $2.1 billion in Spain over the next two years, a record figure in the almost four decades that the Redmond company has been based in our country. The objective, drive the development and adoption of “Responsible Artificial Intelligence” in Spanish territory.

The announcement came after the signing of a collaboration agreement between the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of Microsoft, Brad Smith, at Moncloa.

Among the details that have been disclosed about this agreement is the upcoming opening in the Community of Madrid of a Cloud Regiona set of data centers strategically deployed to achieve low latency.

This infrastructure will be accompanied by a Data Center campus in Aragon, with European companies and public entities as target clients to whom to offer the full range of Microsoft Artificial Intelligence services.

According to figures published by the company citing an analysis by IDC, its data centers in Spain “could add 8.4 billion euros to the national GDP and contribute to the creation of 69,000 jobs in the period 2026-2030.”

This agreement is part of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy announced just over three years ago. Behold the introduction of tools based on Artificial Intelligence in public administrationincluding the training of officials who will use them, and the promotion of responsible use of AI.

The latter will be possible thanks to the recent AESIA (Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence), an organization created at the end of 2022 and based in A Coruña.

National cybersecurity of critical infrastructures will also benefit from this agreement. Microsoft and the National Cryptological Center, dependent on the CNI, will “jointly explore” the improvement of early warning mechanisms and the response to computer security incidents in public administrations.

A new change in the world of Gru with which the authors of Super Mario Bros. The Movie hope to continue their love affair with the box office and demonstrate their ability to compete head to head in success with Disney and Pixar.
