Dead Cells – The Best and Easiest Way to Farm Cells (Faster Upgrades Guide)

Around here you should end your run – after defeating the Clock Room Boss.

In Dead Cells you can only add new weapons, mutations and abilities to your random biomes via Cell Forge. Between two areas (or biomes) you will find a Cell Forge – in exchange for Cells you can unlock items or permanent upgrades. In reality, you just add items/abilities to the Rand Number Generator, but any mutations you unlock will appear on your list (roster) immediately. But if you want the best weapons, abilities and mutations, it will cost you a lot of Cells.

So that this doesn’t become too tedious, I would like to introduce you to the quickest and best ways to collect tons of Cells in a single run. It’s about earning Cells quickly without too much effort. That’s why I’m not going to just say “go to the High Castle” – if you take the direct, designated route, it’ll take around 30 minutes to get to the end, and that’s a lot of work. So here we want to focus on a few other methods that will get you lots of Cells quickly.

The Best (& Easiest) Ways to Farm Cells | Faster Upgrades Guide

Earning Cells can be a tedious and lengthy process if you focus on the early stages of Dead Cells restrict. You only get a lot of cells from the tier (level) 5 and tier 6 biomes, i.e. Clock Tower and High Peak Castle. On the lowest difficulty you will find 50+ Cells in each of these areas.

If you’re still struggling to complete Dead Cells and don’t have much experience with bosses and other enemies, here are the steps needed to get the most Cells in a standard run:

  • Kill all enemies on the map, even the weak ones – there’s always a chance you’ll drop a Cell.
  • Search every nook and cranny for locked golden doors. In the early stages you will occasionally find golden doors with cell containers.
  • Follow the standard path – defeating the Concierge and the Time Keeper will give you a lot of Cells. Both bosses aren’t too strong if you’ve stocked up on some useful equipment.

This is the simplest of simple strategies – just play through stages, defeat the bosses and collect the Cells. If you want to get more Cells faster, you’ll need some gear and a few permanent upgrades so you’re prepared. This strategy is all about moving quickly.

Farming Cells – Speed Run Method

No, you don’t have to be a speed runner to use this method successfully, but you do need to be moving quickly. Jump over enemies, roll-dodge through them, and sprint to the exit of each biome.

Your goal is to move as quickly as possible, so you should ignore optional paths. If you end up in a dead end, you should run back to a teleporter to get back on the right path. Move through the main corridors and stick to the top levels of the biomes.

  • ANNOTATION: To use the speedrun method successfully, you need all four movement runes.

Why? Because there is a Time-Lock Door in every biome. At the start of each area after the first, you will come across a Time-Lock Door that hides numerous useful items. If you’re quick enough, you can reach all the Time-Lock Doors when they’re open, grab the treasure, and run to the next door.

  • To get to Cells quickly, you need to clear areas quickly to reach the Time-Lock Doors and grab the free Cells that are behind them. To do this, play through the levels in the following order – this is an optimized run that will give you the most Cells.
  1. Promenade of the Condemned – 2 minutes
  2. Ossuary – 8 minutes
  3. Black Bridge – 15 minutes (Kill the boss, door is in the passage after the boss.)
  4. Stilt Village – 17 minutes
  5. Forgotten Sepulcher – 26 minutes
  6. Clock Room – N/A (Kill the boss.)
  • If you follow this path you will get around 260 cells per run. Each run should last less than 30 minutes. This run is most practical/successful after you unlock Boss Cell 1/2 difficulty and you only play Boss Cell 0 to get Cells easily.

If you find this route difficult, you can shorten it and only play as far as the Black Bridge to trade in your Cells there. But then you only earn around 120 Cells in 15 minutes.
