The ‘Animal Crossing’ series of games is exclusive to Nintendo consoles, but will this change to benefit the Sony Playstation 4 and 5 consoles?
What if Animal Crossing arrives on Playstation consoles? The franchise is owned by Nintendo and the Japanese company’s in-house studios are taking care of it, but there have always been rumors about a potential release on other platforms. Could ‘Animal Crossing New Horizons’ be the opus that will start the collaboration?
Animal Crossing on PS4 and PS5: towards an exclusive release?
Know right away that nothing official confirms or formalizes the point. At the moment, all Animal Crossing games are only available on Nintendo systems, including the Switch. Although emulation allows play Animal Crossing on PC too, there are indeed only Nintendo signed platforms to access these video games.
That being said, several rumors are heard here and there and provide information on the very cordial relationship between Nintendo and Sony. Both Japanese, the companies would be on common ground and their goal would be the same: dominate the video game and console segment.
Off, we even hear that the two giants seek to confine Xbox to its domain, cloud gaming and service software (Xbox Game Pass in particular). And recently, an info revived the rumor among passionate players:
- Famitsu announces that Xbox Series X | S sales exceeded 100,000 copies on October 10, or more next-gen sales in 12 months than the Xbox One in 4 years.
On the forums, some Internet users self-proclaimed leakers therefore announce a Sony-Nintendo alliance to try to regain domination over the country, fan of video games.
The very different truth: Animal Crossing will remain a Nintendo exclusion
As for official sources, the tone is harsher and less reassuring: Animal Crossing is a Nintendo license and will remain so forever. There will therefore be no release of the games on Playstation 4 or PS5, and the studios that develop these successful titles are very happy with the Switch console.
- Besides, a huge DLC paid releases November 05 on Animal Crossing New Horizons. Entitled ‘Happy Home Paradise’, it adds a lot of content and reassures Nintendo’s dedication to wise AC.
- Changes to the players’ island, new life simulation features… The title will turn a corner and enter its second year of support, far from being “relegated” by Nintendo to a console that is not its own!
So, if you are expecting any Animal Crossing game on Playstation consoles … you will have to come back. The gameplay is designed for the Switch, the gameplay excels and the exclusive features like amiibo are too attached to it for portability.
