Pokémon Legends AZ: trailer analysis, theories and everything we know about the new Pokémon game for Nintendo Switch

The most important announcement of today’s Pokémon Presents was the reveal of , a new spin-off that, Before reaching the tenth generation of the franchise, it returns us to the region we met in the sixth generation that we originally saw in 2013.

Curiously, they did not have a third installment as has happened with most generations of the series – until they had their extensive expansions – so it is a pleasant surprise returning to the Kalos regionwhich is inspired by France.

These are all the details we saw in the first trailer for this new Pokémon game.

Urban development plan

We start with a look at what looks like a paper envelope containing the urban development plans of a city. This is what it says:

Confidential City Urban Development Plan ********* The dream of a beautiful coexistence between humans and Pokémon.

The game seems to refer to our job will be to develop a city so that it becomes the perfect place where both Pokémon and humans can coexist.

Will we have simulation and urban management elements in addition to the goal of catching them all? Seems that if.

A look at Luminalia and her Pokémon

After seeing this envelope, we see architectural sketches showing a facade. Next we see Pikachu doing a tour of a familiar city: Luminalia.

Pikachu runs along the extensive avenues of the city while we see Pokémon from different generations.

The Pokémon that we reach identify more than 20 creatures from different generations in the trailer:

  • Pikachu
  • Litleo
  • Pryroar
  • Furfrou (3 forms)
  • Flabebé
  • Klefki
  • Fletchling
  • Dragonair
  • Hawlucha
  • Gyarados
  • Hippopots
  • Arbok
  • gogoat
  • Emolga
  • Aegislash
  • Krookodile
  • Sandile
  • Sylveon
  • Onyx
  • Pinsir
  • Heracross
  • Eevee
  • Bellsprout
  • Talonflame

The city is not completely materialized, but rather It seems to be all part of an urban development planas mentioned in the envelope at the beginning of the trailer.

Finally, we turn to the paper which suggests that none of this exists yet.

Logo and the return of Mega Evolutions

As happened in , the Pokémon logo does not respect the typical colors for the West (blue and yellow), but is presented in a Gradient pink tone with gray outlines. The name ZA is a clear reference to the name of the sixth generation games.

To close the trailer we see the Mega Evolutions logo which suggests that somehow this mechanic, introduced in the sixth generation, will be back in this new spin-off of the franchise.

Building Luminalia City

Luminalia City or Lumiose City is also known as The city of the lights and is inspired by the city of Paris, France. It is located in the center of the Kalos region and stands out from a distance for the gigantic Prisma Tower that is clearly inspired by the Eiffel Tower.

Is about the largest city in the world of Pokémon in its extensiononly surpassed in number of inhabitants by Ciudad Meseta (Paldea) and Ciudad Majolica (Teselia/Unova).

GameFreak has not made it completely clear what exactly this game is about but it seems that it will be completely focused on a single city instead of presenting its open natural maps as is tradition. After all, it is a sub-series that lends itself to all kinds of experimentation.

AZ, war and a history from 3000 years ago

Although there are no clues about the history of , the subseriessuggests adventures that take place in the past. In this case we would be talking about a Kalos where we may have to do the urban planning of Luminalia Cityas we have mentioned.

The name of the game reminds us of a curious character from . AZ is a character who has been wandering for 3000 years in search of his Pokémon Floette and it is the king of the Kalos region.

AZ’s beloved Floette died in a war, so AZ created a machine to bring her to life. That machine would gradually become a weapon capable of ending the lives of an enormous number of living beings. Floette abandoned AZ upon realizing all the Pokémon energy it took for her to come back to life, which she has to this character. wandering in search of it for more than 3000 years.

Will the story be linked to this character, the war and the reconstruction of Kalos? It is probable.

Release on Nintendo Switch 2?

We’ll have to wait until sometime in 2025 for this release. Although it is confirmed for ‘Nintendo Switch consoles’, speculation suggests that in said year we will be receiving the successor to the current Nintendo console.

It would not be a surprise if this title reaches both Nitnendo’s current generation consoles and the next generation.
