Riot Games suffers massive staff cuts: League of Legends creators laid off 11 percent of all their employees

Unfortunately, mass layoffs in the industry are becoming more frequent. Even so, the fact that large developers that we could consider economically stable make these abrupt staff cuts never ceases to surprise… and now it’s Riot Games’ turn.

In a press release, Tencent Riot Games, creators of popular games like or, announced that 530 people who were working on different projects around the world were laid off:

“We are eliminating around 530 jobs globally, which represents approximately 11% of Riot employeeswith the greatest impact on teams outside of core development”

The reason for this staff cut that the developer shared lies in the change in focus they are going through, since they will prioritize games that provide a better experience to the consumer, leaving less important projects aside:

“Over the last few years, as Riot has more than doubled its roster, we’ve spread our efforts across more and more projects without blades sharp enough to decide what players need most. The adjustments we are making seek to focus on the areas that have the greatest impact on your experiencewhile reducing investment in things that do not have it”
